My favorite TV Show of 2016! What can I say it's truly amazing, great acting, memorable characters, lots of twist and overall you got a complete fulfilling series. Funny I started watching it on Netflix in 2015 then finish it during Summer 2016 it really hook me up starting season 2 so I started enjoying a lot from there. #BreakingBad #WalterWhite #JessePinkman #TV2016

Okay, so I just heard about the utter bullshit that is what happened with Sleepy Hollow, and I was looking to see how many characters that is that have been killed off so far in 2016 alone. I noticed a really, really disturbing trend and I need to know if I’m missing something, or if this is legitimate.

Characters I found included

Laurel (Arrow)

Lexa (The 100, queer)

Lincoln (The 100, POC)

Nora (Vampire Diaries, queer)

Mary-Louise (Vampire Diaries, queer)

Carla (Code Black, queer, Jewish*)

Julie (The Expanse, queer, WOC)

Zora (Shannara Chronicles, queer, WOC*)

Commander Tilton (Shannara Chronicles, WOC*)

Rose (Jane the Virgin, queer)

Kira (The Magicians, queer, WOC)

Denise (The Walking Dead, queer)

Abbie (Sleepy Hollow, WOC)

[* = The actress portraying the character, not necessarily the character themselves, but still something to be noted.]

With the exception of Laurel, all of these characters are either queer or POC. It doesn’t surprise me, not really, but I’m exceptionally floored. That’s 13 characters in 2016 already, 12 of which are of minority groups in one way or another, some belonging to more than one. With a speculated 14 more characters on current;y airing television slated to die, how much worse is this list going to become?

It’s not just about the fact that killing characters off to create shock value and drum up social media presence is lazy. It’s about the fact that the characters they’re choosing to kill are from groups that are already marginalized on television.

The scary thing is, I’m fairly positive that Agents of SHIELD will be adding to this list by killing off recurring guest characters Elena Rodriguez and Joey Gutierrez, so that adds two more POC and another queer character to the list. At least.

I’m sure other people have spoken about this, but this is the first that I heard about many of these characters being killed off (despite having friends who watch a lot of these shows). Am I missing characters? Am I misinformed? Or is this seriously the state of the TV Character Graveyard this year?

Because if it is, this is disgusting, on top of shameful.
