Surely this has been done before but
TVD would've been way better if they kept Elena as kind of a bitchy mean girl like she was in the books. First because then Elena would be less boring. Second, it adds an element to the love triangle. Instead of being like oh no two hot guys like me, it's like: this guy makes me a better person, I like who I am with him. This guy understands me, all of me, including my dark side. Which feels like a harder emotional choice to me. Three, it would've added something to her and Katherine, because she's looking at Kat going "god I could turn into this if I'm not careful" but she's also like "god I wish that was me Im tired of being nice I wanna go apeshit." Just a better show tbh.
