What do you think about Steroline as a couple ?
I like Steroline in fanon, but in canon I think it's a terrible idea.
For one, the way they're writing Stefan, which is not going to change, probably ever, is that he is and always will be in love with Elena. Always. She will always be there in his heart, taking up the majority of real estate. Even without the universe pushing them together he would always be in love with her. It would always be Elena for him.
Which means that any poor girl besides her that he ends up in a relationship with will end up screwed over and tossed to the side once Elena inevitably goes back to him. Because that's another thing the writers will never give up on- the triangle. They will always have Elena ping pong back and forth between the brothers, no matter how unhealthy it is, no matter how ridiculous, no matter how much we want them to stop alfreakingready. It will always be a thing.
Which means that Caroline, poor always-second-choice Caroline will once again be, well, second choice. Stefan will inevitably go back to Elena when she gets insanely jealous for no reason while he has no obligation to stay single while she bangs his brother decides she wants to be with him again. And this will destroy Caroline. And it will destroy their beautiful friendship. And I am here for neither.
Now in fanon, I am all for Steroline. They're my two favorite TVD characters, of course I would like to see them together. If Klaus never came to MF? Steroline. If Klaus died? Steroline. If Klaus is around? Klefaroline.
Fanon is the only way I can see them having a healthy relationship. Because in fanon we can get rid of the triangle. We can have Stefan move on. We can have Stefan not even look at Elena twice to begin with and not turn down Caroline at the bonfire. We can have their friendship develop into a beautiful romance and stay strong and wonderful because we can make Stelena over forever (not that I have a problem with vintage Stelena, I totally ship them, but Steroline is also so appealing). There are so many possibilities. But not in canon, imo.
It's really too bad the writers would never be able to make them work, they would make one smoking couple, and probably the healthiest in MF if you got rid of the Elena issue. Now, if we bring a certain hybrid back into the mix, we would be golden. I'm sure together they could convince our favorite broody vampire to give up on the doppelganger ;)
