Your chances of survival while serving on a Miranda-class starship are slim to none. It beats out the Oberth-class starship in death rates, if only because the Oberth-class didn’t see service during the Dominion War.  If your ship doesn’t get shot out from under you because you’re a disposable first wave in a Big Battle, then you’ll just pick up something deadly while on a routine patrol or supply run.*

*okay the 2280s Saratoga *might* not be dead, just filled with scared and exhausted officers. There’s no guarantee the whale probe undid what it did to all the ships that were in its path originally, and even if it did, that everyone survived in the interim.

Transporter Effects Day 2: Classic Movies Edition

TMP: As this is a brand new transporter room and effect, and as there was a mishap (we made a pile of sentient goo!) a hour before they’re being extra careful with it. which is why it take fifteen seconds to beam in. You won’t be catching anyone unaware with that. It’s like watching a kaleidoscope 

Wrath of Khan: This is better but it still takes an ungodly amount of time to beam in. The two big columns of light that ensures everyone within 10km knows where you beamed in. The columns of light would stay incorporated throughout the rest of the movies, although here it’s horizontal. Sparkles are back.

Search for Spock: Big Bright Columns, less sparkles. 

Voyage Home: The only no Starfleet transporter in the bunch. multiple columns, some sparkles.

Final Frontier: We cheaped out on the sfx company and budget so very cheezy looking sparkles and instead of columns we have....ovals?

Undiscovered Country: Back to basics, the columns have returned and minimal sparkles.

Fleet Admiral Cartwright: Senior Admiral based out of Sol Sector. Headed the Starfleet response in San Francisco during the Probe Crisis of 2286. In 2293 was involved in a conspiracy with members of Starfleet, the Klingon Defence Force and Romulus to precipitate a war between the Federation and the Klingon Empire following the destruction of Praxis. His role in the conspiracy was uncovered during the Kithomer Conference, where he was arrested. He is presently awaiting trial.
