ITV3 Idents 2013 ‘Collected Stories - Plant Life’

Another example of using paper to communicate with animation. Andersen M Studio is a collaborative partnership that has experience in graphic design, photography, film and art direction. They primarily use paper to create ad campaigns for a variety of different clients, showing that their brand aesthetic appeals to a lot of people. I'm unsure as to wether this particular ad, 'Plant Life', was created by stop motion animation or filmed on set and then enhanced with CGI. I'm interested in this project because of the use of all white, and then quite a luminous but natural gradient of grey to blue in the background. I also like the way that the scene almost unravels and the plants roll upwards like they're growing. This really contrasts with the next campaign I'm looking at from Andersen M Studio...

Each of the 4 idents last roughly 5 seconds long. This is the time frame or time window that the company has to fill between a program and commercial advertisements. From looking at these idents, I’d say they were animations for a TV channel that would be scheduled to air between the ending of television advertisements and the beginning of programs.

The only information the idents tell the viewer is what channel the program is on. Due to the type of bubbly animations featured, the idents are mainly entertainment related. The screen tempo various from being slow to medium depending on what it happening within each animation.

With every ident displayed, each animation has a bright and upbeat colour palette, including bright reds, yellows and greens to pale blues. Based on this observation, it is clear that such idents would be scheduled to appear in the early morning or afternoon. The music itself is always bright and cheerful as well.

The spinning top at the end of each ident is the company's corporate image. In terms of interaction with the viewers, they can relate to the objects and scenes displayed in the animations such as the balloons popping and the diamond shapes appearing to swim like fish, as they are objects the viewers recognize. The bright colours also attract their eyes, but more so in children.
