So, juuust in case anyone is unaware, Roku is a streaming platform and you can get Roku TVs kind of like Amazon Firestick TVs. Just a smart TV with a built-in streaming platform.

Roku TV have a looping screensaver of a city where the "camera" kind of scrolls to the right, so you're kind of watching the city slowly go by. There are many elements of real-life cities, including recognizable landmarks from cities like London, San Francisco, and New York, but also unreal stuff lile Godzilla, King Kong, aliens, giant killer robots, a kraken, etc. etc. In the screensaver, there are signs that say "Roku City."

So. Roku City is a fictional city invented by a streaming platform that is an amalgam of several real cities, plus the fictional versions of those cities from various movies.

NOW! As it pertains to Heated Rivalry, it all started two days ago when Lexi @avantgarden-er posted this: "The NHL in Rachel Reid’s universe takes place in Roku City"

*I* personally believe that this is a commentary on how Rachel Reid writes about the toxic aspects of the NHL, but her in-universe depictions of the NHL are generally much more tame than the real-life NHL (wrt things like racism and homophobia). Therefore, like Roku City, Rachel Reid's NHL exists in a universe that is slightly to the left of our own: real and not real at the same time.

Part of the bit is imagining if Heated Rivalry did actually take place in Roku City. For example, the team is called the Roku City Streambars. Some users have been changing the show's dialogue to the "Roku City" version, e.g. "I wouldn't be able to go home again." "Because your parents-" "Because Roku!"

But also. Roku City's very premise is that it can contain anything from our world and anything from any fictional world as well. This makes it a perfect sandbox for combining all the AU concepts we've been talking about for the past few months: the Vampire Marleau, mouse Hayden, Club Irina, Connie from admin, Yuna's gay intern, Jeff the bathtub lizard, Shane laying eggs, etc. It allows for a setting where we can have canon, which is supposed to be like real life (but isn't) with fantasy and sci-fi concepts that ordinarily would not fit the genre. In Roku city, we can have Shane and Ilya, Hudson and Connor, Big Hud and Connie, and even Land Leopard and the injured stripper. it's a place of infinite possibility!
