Ahhh. A relaxing take on what has been a harrowing election season. While I’ve griped about TWC in the past (their mobile site is absolutely atrocious with clutter and nonsense, but all I want is weather!) this move shows that perhaps they do understand their audience, after all. Or, at least, they’re growing tired of election coverage, too. Lesson? Overwhelming your audience with a single topic can get monotonous or boring. Unless you’re TWC; then, you should stick to your single topic.

"Nightly campaign coverage from Trump Tower"

The concept of a Trump television station is truly terrifying both socially and from a marketing standpoint. When you’re thinking about your company’s branding (and yes, Trump himself is a brand,) it’s important not to just think about the audience you want to reach and how to reach them, but also think about the implications of your choices. In this case, Trump gets his word out, but he alienates himself in the process, essentially saying that no news media company can possibly be trusted convey his message properly, regardless of that company’s political leanings. The level of distrust feels wacky, like one of those conspiracy-theory guys on alien shows. Is this the message he wants to send? Probably not. How do your company’s choices change your audience’s opinion? Are you speaking to the audience you intend to reach?
