You know, sometimes I feel pressured by my friends into sharing their limp go-along, get-along attitude, which they somehow think will change the utter cultural toxicity of fandom. During those times, I sometimes add a disclaimer to my work that’s it okay not to like like Scott McCall, as if somehow people needed my permission to dislike him and haven’t already made it a cottage industry.

But I can always rely on encountering fiction where Scott gets murdered early in the morning and getting asks like this on, which allow me to remember -- oh, yes, the vast majority of people who don’t like Scott McCall are doing it because of any combination of these four reasons:

they’ve not watched the show or they’ve not watched the show in so long they don’t remember what actually happened and they allow someone else to tell them what to think

they’ve masturbated to the idea of Tyler Hoechlin or Ian Bohen screwing Dylan O’Brien (but in reality screwing a Self-Insert Stan with a Stiles Name Tag) so much and so hard that they’ve lost all perspective

they enjoy being part of communities led by BNFs who tell them that their petty biases and day-dream fantasies aren’t self-indulgent garbage, but actually valid interpretations

they’re racist as hell

Because

EVEN IF they think that we, as viewers of Teen Wolf, are supposed to believe that Scott knew in the scene the anon references that Matt was stalking Allison as well as being the kanima’s master, when he didn’t, (And don’t give me the bullshit that Stiles warned him, because Stiles was just being a little shit. If Stiles really thought that Matt was evil and the kanima’s master, why didn’t he check to see if Matt was at the rave? Why didn’t he investigate to see if there was a connection between Matt and Jackson? Why did he spend Spring Break looking through yearbooks rather than digging into his prime suspect?)

EVEN IF they think that if Scott had sufficient reason because of Stiles’s half-ass warning not to allow Matt anywhere near Allison, even if they forgot that one of the major conflicts of the season was Scott being overprotective of Allison and it contributed to Allison’s need to exercise power and would be unwelcome if he tried to protect her from what both of them thought was a simple classmate,

EVEN IF they think that that we weren’t supposed to see it as the fake date romantic trope which it was exactly how it was used, and see it as a commentary on either Allison’s or Scott’s character,

EVEN IF they think that Victoria Argent wasn’t attempting to intimidate and control Scott and Allison from seeing each other, and this was a valid attempt to evade her ire,

EVEN IF they forget that Allison had already agreed to go to the rave with Matt before that scene started, they had to know this scene isn’t about Scott controlling Allison’s life as the shitty anon is trying to imply or about Scott putting Allison in danger as the shitty anon is trying to imply,

Scott: Uh, you remember when I got called out of detention to go to the office? She was the one that talked to me, and, uh, she was asking me all these questions about us. Like really, really specific questions. And there were pencils being sharpened.

Allison: Pencils?

Scott: Just trust me. It was bad. Um, and I - I think that we should do something like - like - be seen with other people.

Allison: Like, be seen dating?

Scott: Maybe more. What?

Allison: Um - well, I don't - I don't know how it happened or why I even said yes, but I'm actually supposed to hang out with Matt.

Scott: Oh. Oh, great. That's perfect. Go out with him.

Allison: Seriously?

Scott: Yeah, and make a big deal out of it in front of your mom, okay? Even kiss him if you have to.

Allison: Kiss him? Are you sure about that?

Scott: Uh - T - totally.

Allison: Oh. Like, really kiss him?

Scott: Well, what's "really kiss him" like?

The fundamental truth is that neither Scott nor Allison are doing anything wrong in this scene. Neither of them are stepping on each other’s feelings. Neither of them are controlling each other or willingly putting the other into danger. They’re two kids who want to date and are trying to avoid the ire of her parents. That’s all.

I would love to think that the asshole anon is an outlier, that they don’t share anything with any other member of the fandom, but they do. I know they do. You know they do.
