Hal Jordan/Reader, ≈ 450 words
Hal, forver the one that got away. Then cam back, then left again. You gotta learn to share him with the skies.
Seeing Hal Jordan once today was enough to last you a lifetime. Twice? Overkill.
When you’d found his sorry ass on your doorstep, you’d almost slammed the door in his face, but just like the last time you’d fallen for his charm, something about his easy-going smile, and relaxed demeanour convinced you not to.
It’s like he has some kind of spell on you. It’s strong enough to get him through the threshold, but not enough that you don’t see the unease around his captivating, chestnut brown eyes when he asks; “So, who was that guy I saw you with today?”
“Are you jealous?” You sputter immediately, feeling smug as he squirms under your gaze. Serves him right for never calling you back. “'Cause let me tell you, Hal: This particular shade of green ain’t your colour.”
“I’m not jealous.” He retorts, standing taller as though it will make him feel bigger on the inside, but you don’t back down.
Men like Hal don’t just show up on your door years after leaving you high and dry, for no reason. “Then why are you here?”
There’s a moment of tense silence between you both. Hal wets his lips, once, twice, forming a sentence he can’t quite get out and you curse yourself for watching so intently.
For how the sight of it makes you feel. When he lifts his hands to scratch his neck you finally cave. Leaning back against the wall, you try not to notice the way his t-shirt hangs a little to tight around his biceps, or the slit of skin peeking out just above his belt, or the woodsiness of his cologne or the fact he’s wearing the same boots he’d worn all that time ago, the ones with the broke aglets and stuffed toes. He hasn’t changed at all.
“Look, I know we were never officially anything.” He finally speaks, becoming impossible to ignore as he steps closer. “But we’re something. I shouldn’t have left like I did, I figured I owed you something. Like an explanation.”
“I don’t want an explanation.” There’s not even a speck of resistance on his end when you impulsively hook your fingers in his belt loop and pull him into you. In fact, when you look at his face he’s smirking, flexing his fingers as he lays them on the wall either side of your head and moves in closer.
“Then what do you want?” Something stirs in your stomach as he asks. The very same sensation you haven’t been able to replicate without him.
Him. You’ve always wanted him.
Send me a pairing/character + prompt and I’ll write you a drabble/blurb.
Write something showing conflict, except show it through the little things, the child’s sock burning in the rubble, the smashed glasses, the scuff marks from thousands of sets of boots, the bullet holes in one particular wall, show conflict with the things that get ignored for the bigger problems
‘Don’t look at me like that.’ Bertholdt grumbles. ‘You should hate me. The rest do.’ And he should hate her. He should hate Wendy. But he doesn’t , in fact he feels the quite the opposite. She’s almost like his little sister. Huh, he never did have any siblings...
No. No, he shakes that thought out of his head, pushes the thought right down to the darkest cesspool of his mind. ‘I ruined your life Wendy! I’m responsible for the deaths of your friends!’
‘I’m not who you thought I was...pathetic, meek Bertholdt.’
maybe im just a simple undergrad human rights student but if NATO’s own use-of-force expectations for military and non-military people in active conflict zones (peacekeeping or not) are “step 1: shoot at ground; step 2: shoot at ground again; step three: shoot at legs” then i really simply cant see any reason why a cop in a non-conflict zone needs to immediately aim for a human, especially to kill??
How do you handle conflict with someone else? Do you avoid fights, or are you aggressive? Or are you passive-aggressive and only give the appearance of cooperation?
Bella: Chess master strikes again! She will swindle the other person onto her side. Don't argue with her unless she's sleep-deprived or super hungry. At that point, she will probably break down crying if you try to fight her. Otherwise, she's almost guaranteed to win. But generally, she tries to avoid fights.
Freddie: his only tone setting is sarcastic. He will snark at you till the end of your days and will insult you and argue with you if you disagree with him. He is the Smartest Being, the Supreme Overlord when it comes to having to deal with those of Lower Intelligence. The only people smarter than him are his parents. And the historical geniuses. He's sometimes sent out of the classroom for correcting and/or talking back to his teachers. Passive-aggressive to the end!
Zach: He doesn't want to fight you. It takes a lot to set him off, but once he's mad, it's explosive. Tip! Don't pick on someone who can't defend themselves around him. He will punch and kick and not let up until a respected adult pulls him off the bully. He will fight tooth and nail anyone who is mean to those that are truly close to him. Once he's removed from the bully he will 1. Challenge them to another fight 2. Give them the silent treatment after that. Don't mess with him. Why would you want to see such a happy boi angry? Why?
Funnily enough this is the last major section of comic I drew for ‘Precious Memories’! I think the memories were about to get TOO precious and I didn’t know how to approach them / didn’t necessarily want to approach them.
...I'm scared. Are we actually going to have a war?
i have my own opinions on this, and im still in school learning how to interpret situations like this. I will aslo say, being from a western country and only in my third year of learning, while i try to expand my worldview as much as i can, it’s still limited. so if anyone with a more broadened sense of whats going on wants to add to this i encourage you to.
from what i can tell it is an escalated conflict at the moment, but if theres a few things im sure of its that the amount of wars between states (i think thats the proper translation of interétatique) ((sorry theres going to be a few phrases in here that are confusing because i only know them in french)) has declined rapidly since the end of WWII, and intrastate wars (within one state, think civil war) are much more commonplace, because war is fucking expensive as shit and the less other states (countries) have to get involved the better is is for their own economies (think war profiteering companies like Lockheed Martin being based in Canada and the US instead of within conflict zones in the middle east, even tho that’s where they sell them to) like the US hasn’t even paid for the last war they participated in. The likelihood that the US wants to put themselves even way further in debt and stretch their military even thinner is likely small.
i also know that a lot of people are anxious about the Russian and Chinese government’s involvement and whether or not they would back the Iranian forces. As it is with my point above, it really comes down to economics, and while the Chinese economy is massive and powerful, it pretty much depends solely on exports, which includes Canada and the US as main contributors. Canada itself imports (buys) 3-5x the amount of goods from China than we export (sell), 58 BILLION USD in 2018. i personally am not convinced that any government ever would be willing to lose that much profit in exported goods, even before u add the deficit that war would cost them.
I think maybe a proxy war in Iraq is unfortunately likely. I think the Iranian government has done some horrible things to its own citizens that we should also be way more concerned about. and I think we should remember that if you’re in a Western country ur chance of being “drafted” (forced to become a soldier) is definitely incredibly low, i think thats just dumb memes on twitter. I think we really need to remember that the people who will suffer most from this are innocent citizens in these countries in the Middle East.
and if anyone drops a comment or an ask thats even vaguely racist, islamophobic, xenophobic, white-nationalist/neo-liberalist-sounding etc, because ive already unfortunately started to see them on twitter, ill come to ur house and dropkick you, capiche?
I encourage you to check out not just news sources, but as well if u have an account with an educational institution of any degree, you should be able to get into peer reviewed and academically backed journals and books and articles on Databases like JSTOR, ResearchGate, ProQuest etc.
Honestly im still down for the count from the surgery, so I can spend all day doing research and trying my best to answer questions and point people to resources if anyone wants.
