can i say one thing about sokka/ the gaang in the new movie…pls no one get mad at me i understand sokka is a comedic relief character above everything but…the characterization this movie gave sokka little to no depth like. at all.

I feel like the show was really good at balancing sokkas character at rough times in his arc. He is a warrior and he is a very crucial and respectable part of the team. It felt like no matter what sokka did, he never acknowledged the severity of whatever was happening…because his sole purpose in this movie was to be the classic silly sokka we know. It was sometimes so intense that it took me out of the movie. Sokka only a handful of times fit the tone of the movie and it was mostly during funny scenes or scenes where he was just saying something to bring the movie forward. it sucked!

This movie was focused on aang, and that is glaringly so. Which is good! But, one of the main problem of the movie was aang dismissing his friends to follow tagah…so if you have that as a point in the movie, you should have more structure on the gaang. I don’t belive the movie actually did a good job at incorporating the gaang into the story as a good plot point besides katara(which I am actually very thankful for) I think Zuko was the only character other than aang and katara to be taken as a serious character and even then we barely saw any of his life . Toph was also watered down- she was always a part of a certain wisdom to aang aim how she fought but she was boiled down to a brute even though she’s SO. MUCH. MORE in like EVERY OTHER PIECE OF MEDIA.

I just think Sokka was very watered down and it made me really sad because he is such a cool and interesting character and to see him kind of …not be understood as a character sucked. I think the team did a great job on animation and a general plot, i just really wanted to see more from the gaang and their dynamics running more deep in their portrayal. It would’ve been super awesome to see how the characters grew from when we last saw them as friends and people. TLOK did an awesome job of that so it’s so jarring to see these cheap understandings. and I just love sokka and am personally offended when it’s obvious they just see him as comedic …. do right by my boy!

The thing that irks me the most about gameoverse is that like. Remember the gaslight district? Remember when that was a thing???? That show that had a really cool premise and art style that is just sitting there not being updated or even made into merch???????? We’re getting everyone’s nachos mixed together into something so generic and bland and reheating it to pump out more merch, over a story with an amazing cast, premise, and art??????????????? Were literally just gonna forget about that whole thing?????????????????????????????????

//okay I keep turning this over in my brain so here's a little rundown of why I PERSONALLY don't like the direction the show leaned into with valentino in s2. THIS ISNT A CRITICISM OF THE RPC - write that man however you want! this is just my own critique of how he is portrayed in the actual show. you won't often find me criticising hazbin because honestly, for all it's faults, I get tired hearing about them, and when I love something a lot, I prefer to focus on the positive aspects and the things that I love it for. however, the portrayal of valentino is one that I do find fault in.

to me, portraying val as vox's bimbo trophy wife feels lazy at best and hypocritical at worst. it isn't really BELIEVABLE to me: val is not only a pimp, which requires a level of social intelligence and "business" smarts, but he is THE front-runner in the sex industry among sinners. I don't believe vox is running val's industry for him while val plays the sugar baby. val is seen to be cunning, manipulative and powerful. I don't buy that someone with those attributes who has worked his way up to the top of the food chain is stupid.

it also just gives me a bad vibe that a character who is queer, feminine and overtly sexual doesn't seem to have shown much personality beyond the comic relief shown through lack of intelligence and submissiveness. it feels like... with angel, all of these traits are part of a bigger picture, whereas with val, it's the WHOLE picture. as though, because val is a villain, there is no depth to be explored within femininity and sexuality. it gives me the feeling that these stigmatised topics are only acceptable when the character is sympathetic, but if they're evil, they're heightened only for comedic reasons and played off as a joke.

which sucks, because I really love how those topics are explored in angel's character. I think they're tackled with a lot of sensitivity AND great comedic elements, and I think he is a completely believable antihero. I think val has a lot of great moments, and I love him as a character. but the direction the show has taken with him really rubs me the wrong way, because it feels like a slap in the fact to everything that appeals to me about angel.

angel is a queer, kinky effeminate sex worker who is sympathetic and has masses of depth and personality outside of these traits. however, the show never demonises these traits - they're who he is.

with val, it feels like far less thought went into it. there could be so many avenues to explore with his character that have been shrugged off in favour of just slapping the effeminate queer with the pining bimbo label. it just comes off as cheap, lazy and I don't buy that that's who he is.

I do understand that we're only on s2, and s3 will definitely give us more depth to val's character, but knowing that that the writing team have pinned him as the dumb trophy wife, I don't really hold out much hope for how the complexities of his character will be handled.

ANYWAY here's my rant that's been brewing 🗣

I think there's something to be analysed re fandom's fascination with male white characters who are at least a bit pathetic, and who come from a privileged background, whose family is vaguely reminiscent of fascism and/or is also at least implied to be abusive of said male character

And the reaction to Zootopia's new villain

Because like

I keep seeing takes about how they were 'badly written' or 'should've been redeemed' or 'their motivation doesn't make any sense'

And the only thing I can think about is "oh you wanted them to be furry Kylo Ren/Draco Malfoy didn't you"

(Then again I also roll my eyes when people say that the version of the movie with the shock collars would've been better because no. No it wouldn't have been a better movie. So maybe unpopular Zootopia opinions are just my brand)

(This is NOT pushing a moral judgement on people who relate to these characters. You do you. I am just observing something I perceive as a trend)

Maybe asking this is a bad idea cuz I don't wanna bring negative asks and interactions on your blog but I wanted to ask what are the plot holes you noticed in NLMG? I genuinly want to know I don't wanna stirr the pot! I also feel like some of the conflicts are a bit forced like the one at the ballroom was literally so random(on a side note am I the only one triggered wen Maggy calls the people at the club elders when it's barely people on theire 30s and 40s?)

p.s. you have every right to be critical of something, don't feel pressured to not share your opinion only cuz some people make you feel bad! they are the ones that can't take a differen't opinion well and should work on their empathy and understanding! also thanks for always being nice and available to ask opinions and thoughs!

trigger warning I’m gonna criticize the show one more time so if you can’t handle that, don’t open the post. ✌🏻  

to start things off I find the plot around the death of nueng's dad very confusing. It's strange to me how he gets shot and essentially no one reacts to it. they're giving us indirect hints about Kit being a suspect in all of this but the entire plot just gets left alone. No one questions it and no one seems to want to find the killer. Additionally we still know nothing about the family business? I find it weird how neither Nueng nor his mother seem to be showing any interest in finding out what actually went down. Additionally Kit and Chopper play a very important part in this story and yet they barely have screen time. doesn’t add up. 

The other thing is the relationship between nueng and palm that's bothering me a bit. they're both showing hypocritical behavior towards each other which irritates me. we have palm who gives nueng mixed signals and flip flops between "i love you" (after knowing him for 5 days) and "this is my duty and I live for my job" while also saying things like “why are we even doing this and who even is this family” to his dad. We’re halfway through the show and we still know nothing about palm nor what he actually thinks and feels. And he’s the main character. And then we have nueng who keeps telling palm he wants him to be his friend while not treating him accordingly, kisses ben, almost gets into a relationship with him and then beats palm up for breathing near a girl and tells him he’s nothing but a servant. Which brings me to the ballroom fiasco aka the worst scene in gmmtv history lmao. Everything about that was unnecessary. That being said I definitely agree with you about some conflicts being forced. It’s a constant push and pull between nueng and palm which I wouldn’t mind if there was a good amount of tension between them, reinforced by the surrounding plot, but there’s nothing. They could’ve changed that if they had involved Ben more in the story as well as the dad’s assassination case but they did none of that. There is no buildup, the pacing is off and the romance plot feels bland to me. I also talked about that in this post. 

so yeah that’s my current opinion and if you have a different one that’s fine and maybe this will change completely in the remaining episodes. But for now I’m disappointed. Not only by the storytelling but also by pond and phuwin’s chemistry because something about it feels off to me. which wasn’t the case in fish upon the sky at all so it’s surprising. even more so since Jojo is the director. We all know he can do romance right. so what happened here. Also I love Phuwin but I feel like this role is a bit too big for him. I’m not a huge fan of his acting in this. 

I still like them as actors though and I also like the rest of the cast as well as the cinematography. Also the story around Ben, Chopper and Phoom is very intriguing to me, especially perth’s and chimon’s performances are remarkable. so I will definitely finish it while hoping my opinion will change ✌🏻

I need everyone to refresh themselves on the definitions and differences between criticism and bullying. You cannot really use them synonymously.

Criticism (noun): the act of passing judgment as to the merits of anything OR a critical comment, article, or essay.

Critical (adjective): involving criticism, or skillful judgment as to truth, merit, etc.

Bully (noun): a blustering, mean, or predatory person who, from a perceived position of relative power, intimidates, abuses, harasses, or coerces people, especially those considered unlikely to defend themselves.

Bullying (verb): to act the bully toward; habitually intimidate, abuse, or harass.

Someone telling you why something you said is wrong/offensive/rude/mean and giving you reasoning behind their claim is criticism. Someone saying “you work is trash” without anything further and to just be rude is bullying.

Just because you don’t personally don’t like what someone has said about something you’ve done/said/written/drawn doesn’t mean they are bullying you. Just because you don’t like what’s been said about you or your work, doesn’t mean that person is a bully.

Can criticism be rude? Yes.  Can bullying be paraded as criticism? Sure. Is all criticism is rude? No. Is all bullying paraded as criticism? No.
