Instead of limiting your diet to certain amounts and only "healthy" foods, it is instead suggested that you can enjoy "junk/unhealthy" food but add to it to make it have adequate nutrition and a filling portion.
Trans healthcare is waiting a month for meds that are out stock and you finally just go to the pharmacist in person for him to tell you you don't need to wait that long and your shit isn't gonna ever be filled here bc reasons so try a different pharmacy and some part of you knew the whole time you'd have to talk to your stupid diet-and-exercise-brained doctor who once told you to eat the equivalent of 20 eggs a day in protein to lose enough weight to get some number down and now you have to talk to him and navigate his weird food obsession to talk about the actual thing you want to talk about which is the fact that your meds can't get filled at your pharmacy and please can you just send it to the original, separate compounding pharmacy that you used to use when you tried this medication several years ago and then your friends are going to hear the story and tell you to get a new doctor and what's messed up is you already knew that you needed a new doctor, you've known you needed a new doctor even before the 20 eggs thing. And now you're at the drive-thru of the Wendy's and you're hoping that Dave's got a bacon cheeseburger for you that'll make you feel okay again, because who knows how long it'll be better you get the meds you've been prescribed.
another underused reason for a character to stuff themselves: they just had to spend time with lots of diet culture-y people and need to unwind
I could see this being really super cute if the character comes back from this Unfortunate Gathering of Bad Vibes (maybe it was a family gathering or something?) to an Understanding Friend or Partner who supports them in their quest to unwind. ♡ Even cooks for them, perhaps, and provides cuddles and rubs once their tummy is nice and full.
do you know anything about certain foods making autism symptoms more or less intense?
because as soon as my physician found out i was autistic, she told me about how processed foods/many safe foods in general actually make sensory issues and stuff worse. i've never heard of that before, so i figured i'd ask someone else whether they think there's any actual truth behind that claim or if i should take what she said with a grain of salt? i searched it on google and the only article i could find on it was by autism $peaks, which doesn't bode well, but maybe i'm missing something...
The only places I have ever found that links nutrition to sensory or behavioural issues are very dodgy looking websites that sell supplements and try to blame amines and salicylates.
Now, is there a connection between autistics and food? 100%, but in the sense that malnutrition can occur through food avoidance.
Food is very much a sensory experience, and every autistic has their preferences. I'm actually not too bad in that area, with almost all vegetables on my okay list. I'm very funny with meats, however. Many Autistics, especially young ones, will avoid vegetables due to texture and taste.
Consistency is also a major player. Safe foods are often processed foods because they rarely change. Ask any autistic that has experienced a company changing their recipe. Life altering.
There is also cost, ease of preparation etc.
But no, the chemicals found in common safe foods are not going to worsen or better your sensory behaviours. My nutritionist swears that my keto diet will have bettered my autism...I keep telling her nothing has changed in the 3+ years I've been on it. They believe what they want to believe.
There was the whole gut microbiome belief a few years ago that the gut microbiome could worsen or even cause autism. This was disproved.
New research dispels the myth that gut bacteria causes autism. Rather, changes in the gut bacteria of some people with autism are driven by
I just had a diet supplement blog follow me I’m so fucking disgusted and so fed up by the increase of predatory ads being sent out right now (which was already high to begin with).
I had seven diet ads pop up on Facebook the other day and when I eventually decided to look into why I was being targeted (even though I already know why I was) it basically told me that the advertiser had paid them to advertise to people who are 25+ years old, live in the United States, and are “similar to their other customers” 🙃
Don’t know if it’s even remotely accurate, but I also feel like since I’ve been posting fat positive/fat acceptance stuff the past couple of years the ads have increased in frequency as well.
(Adding a photo of the blog for those who want to block it and report it)
