Minecraft being constructed to be so gender neutral is so interesting to me, esp when knowing who made the game in the first place.
an old post from Notch explains that he tried to quash gender in Minecraft - making animals have the traits of both its irl male and female counterparts, keeping the player avatar singular so players didn't have to decide who they wanted to be "in a game where gender doesn't exist". hell, he even says he tries to refer to Steve with they/them pronouns.
and i think that part of game development was part why Minecraft resonated with a lot of people. since there isn't the gate of "you must be this gender to play this game", it's open for basically anyone. since you don't need to choose what your gender is unless you want to, genderqueer people can be who they are. there is no grid to choose, since Minecraft is a game of expressing yourself rather than fitting yourself in a pre-made frame.
i think it's the closest to a utopia that a game can get.
