Summary: Just like the title says, Charlie yearning for Tina but make it a bit angsty

Author's notes: I wrote this between 3am and 3:45am while being sleep-deprived. Do with that information what you will 💀

Word count: 650

Her smile. Her laugh. Her frowns and pouts. Her silly jokes and the playful drop in her voice whenever she teased him.

Gosh.

Charlie sighed and passed a hand over his face. His focus flickered once more to Tina. She was just standing there, right outside his office, chatting excitedly with Verda about who knows what.

He would like to know about what. He would love to know about what. He probably would, soon.

They were friends, after all. Close friends. Too close and not enough at the same time.

Was it right of him, to admire her in such a way? To care for her well-being way above his own? He was used to being selfless with just anyone, but for her… gosh, for her, he would happily go to the ends of the earth. If that meant keeping her safe and happy, he would jump off a cliff without a second thought.

He hated to love it so. He hated to love her so. But could he really hate it, when she was oh so wonderful? He hated to hate it just as much as he loved to love her.

Charlie sighed again, although this time he did not even attempt to tear his eye away from her. Could anyone truly blame him, when everything she did made his heart stutter in his chest?

They were friends. Friends. He should not feel that way, not when she cared so much for their friendship. He cared, too. He refused to ruin that for them. For her. If he had to sit through her playful yearning for the firefighters next door, he would. So what if he felt his heartstrings snap whenever her eyes trailed over them? He could handle it. That was what friends were for. That was what she needed him to be.

Sometimes, he wondered if anyone knew. If she knew. He could not help the care he felt for her. It would be a lie to say that giving away his carefully prepared lunch whenever she complained about being hungry did not make it obvious. He did not care. Not when she smiled like that. Not when he had the certainty that she would not go hungry for the day.

Verda had this look in his eye whenever something like this happened. A mix of teasing and pity. Charlie could not be mad at him. He felt that pity for himself everyday.

Because how pitiful of him, to be in love with a woman so wonderful when his own life was such a mess. He could not drag her into it. He could not bear the responsibility of seeing that brightness vanish from her features.

Perhaps it was selfish of him, in a way. She was his breath of fresh air, his escape, his daydream. One look at her and he felt better. He could forget all about his blood, about vampires and trappers and the Agency's caging methods. One look at her, and it made it all worth it.

He hated lying to her. About supernaturals, yes, but about his feelings too. He wanted to share it all with her. The jokes, the fears, the confusion, the happiness. The love.

And so he did not completely lie. In his words, perhaps he did. But in his actions? He could not even if he tried.

Every single thing he did around her screamed out one thing and one thing only.

I love you. I love you. I love you.

And love her he did. And love her he would keep on doing. Even if it meant admiring her from behind his desk while she remained clueless about it all. Even if it meant pretending that he was not enamored by every single detail of her.

Because even if he could not be hers, he could still be here for her. And for now, it would have to be enough.

Thinking about my twc agents and the bits of myself i put in them...

Basically, Louisa Bardot, my Adam romance, is all my nicest traits wrapped around my fierce need to punch anything that thinks it can fuck with me in the face. Peak "good is not soft" action.

Reina Lorelai Crain is my serious, by-the-book side with a hidden deeply romantic center. It's fun playing her so matter-o-fact and blunt and then IMMEDIATELTY swapping to all smiles and flirtation when Nate talks to her. Adam and her were twins in another life fr. Her name changed from Lorelai to Reina when I named my cat Rory lol

Sarina Ives is all biting humor and wit to cover how painfully shy and lacking in self confidence she is. Morgan sees right through it and likes the nerdy awkward woman underneath. The grown up version of the chubby, red-haired, easily bullied queer girl with no present parents. I didn't have red hair but the rest....

And then we got Logan who is cool, chill, effortlessly charismatic, non binary, and every aesthetic I WISH I had. Give Felix a run for his money 🙂‍↕️

hello!! i just finished book 3 and words cannot describe how much i love the world and characters you built!! i kind of have a headcanon but i would love your input. would it be safe to say that the detective was sort of the town heartthrob at one point?

I mean, that's up to you and your thoughts on your MC :D There's certainly nothing in the story that would contradict it.
