my life is a continuous fight
i have tried to swim against the tides
but the only thing i’ve found success in
is drowning in my own plight
like my darkness knows how to
exist without the light
my repetitive failures
have me begging for mercy
i’m still trying to convince
my lungs that i’m worthy of them
perhaps my suffrage is my testimony
and may that be the greatest story that i
ever convince myself to write
pray it be the oxygen that dissipates
and leaves me with nothing but
a tethered body to match my restless soul
because i find it hard to hold on
but God knows that i wish to grow old
