he sits at a desk beneath the decaying roof of ericson’s library, dusting off one of the psychology books that survived the fire

‘japanese archetype’? what the fuck? in what universe would mitch ever catch some bullshit, lovey-dovey virus??

looks like the only good thing to come from this apocalypse was washing out whatever-the-fuck this virus is, right?

after so many years of destruction and death, the virus must’ve died out… right?

peering through the rusted window, he spots you and attempts with every fiber within him to restrain the euphoria that blossoms within him

you’re tending to the garden as you do everyday, caring tenderly for the fruits and vegetables that are ripe for picking with that halo glistening above your head

with your eyes, those your kind words, your heavenly body- shit!

the candy-sweet exhilaration, the fluttering butterflies, that all-too-familiar flash of exhilaration… it’s all just hormones! definitely!

these are the thoughts that ran rampant within his mind, all before the war between his mind and his heart came to a fatal end

out beneath the sunlight, mitch sits at a rotten picnic table and fiddles with the bomb he was currently crafting

in his peripheral, he watches as you saunter over to him feels his heart flutter in his chest 

however, if you know anything about this boy, you know he is as stubborn as they come

he lies through his teeth and shoots you a lousy insult, something about "bothering him while he's working"

and by god, the pure idea of being at fault for your pain causes a lump to form in his throat

“mitch! i found some fertilizer lying around in the greenhouse. would you like to have it?” your voice is a cacophony of angels and melodies as it fills the summer air

hook, line, sinker

you, with that adoring nature and sacks of fertilizer were all it took to get mitch to give into his infatuation

bewildered and doe-eyed, he mumbles a flustered “thank you”, takes the bags of fertilizer from you, and avoids that captivating gaze of yours

one glance and he knew he’d shatter

ok sure, he may be in love, but who said infatuation is a virus?

he’s head over heels, not infected, right?

and nearly choking out louis for playfully putting his arm around your shoulder is just the standard overprotectiveness every boyfriend has…

right?

“mitch! look what i made for you!” your beauty never fails to strike him into silence

out in the wilderness, you and mitch were assigned hunting duty, and he didn’t know if he should thank or curse the universe for letting him be alone with such a godly being as yourself

astonished and gooey-eyed, mitch turns and finds a bouquet of weeds, twigs, and flowers on the brink of death nestled in your palms

the days and nights he spent gathering whatever fragments of excuses he could find to get you out of his mind had been destroyed

dandelions, ground-ivy, and wisteria had never looked so beautiful before

with sweaty palms and cheeks as red as two cherries, he shakily takes the bouquet from your grasp

you give him that award-winning smile of yours and trot off, oblivious to the unbearable fear mitch feels once away from you

he feels nauseated, fatigued, feverish, all within the soul-crushing seconds spent of you stepping further and further and further away from him

i am in love with you

i am so in love with you and it terrifies me

i am terrified of the power you have over me

i am terrified of what you may make me do

you’re underneath his fingernails, you’re in his bones, you’re in his teeth

you’re in everything he breathes

he lets out an exasperated exhale,

Would like to point out that, despite what Carlos thought, Sarah wasn’t going to fall apart completely if she were to realize the full truth of the post-outbreak world. In fact, she’s already somewhat aware of it.

When the cabin group leave to find Pete and Nick, leaving Clem to watch Sarah, you are given the option to tell her the truth. Her first reaction is about how her father must’ve told Clem not to tell her that, meaning she’s aware that there’s something her dad isn’t telling her. If you choose to tell her that Pete’s dead, she’s shocked (of course) and needs a moment to pull herself together: sitting on the floor, doing some breathing exercises.

Clem joins her on the floor, and there’s a quiet moment between them before Sarah suddenly gets up again. Now here comes the gun part. Sarah found this gun under the house, told no one but Clem (not even her dad), and asks Clem to show her how to use it. Which means she knows that knowing how to shoot is something that she’s going to have to know, and more importantly, it’s something she wants to know.

Sarah is willing to learn, and this scene shows that. When she makes the mistake of pointing the gun at Clem—asking Clem what she should shoot—she immediately apologizes and points the gun away from Clem when Clem scolds her for being reckless with it. Immediately after, Sarah suggests that maybe they should go outside and practice on a tree: she still wants to know how to use this weapon, and she wants to do it as safely as possible.

(Side note: that one scene outside of Carver’s truck, if Carver slaps Clem, Sarah immediately steps up to defend her and doesn’t back down. This is significant because Carver literally terrifies Sarah. She was starting to have a panic attack when Carver showed up at the cabin, the adults in the group are obviously running from and are terrified of him, and after everything that happened at the winter cabin (Alvin or Walter dead, Carlos being beaten, the whole group being kidnapped, and now Carver slapping a girl younger than Sarah so hard she crumbled to the floor) and yet she still defends Clementine; no matter how rude or nice Clem was to her before. She can and will be brave and protect others, even if she’s terrified.)

I fully believe that if Sarah was taught what to do and supported by the rest of the group, as well as shown some kindness and understanding, she could’ve came to terms with Carlos’ death and survive. It wouldn’t have been easy, of course, but as long as Sarah was willing to try then it definitely could’ve happened.

All this is to say; if you chose to save Sarah at the trailer, then she should’ve stayed alive. (Not to mention the way all the characters immediately ignore Sarah’s death like it never happened just to focus on AJ.)

The Adventures of Ben and Duck

It was a slow afternoon at the motel, and Duck and Ben were getting restless

"Hey, Ben, I'm bored," Duck complained as he flopped down on the couch next to Ben.

"I know, me too," Ben said with a sigh. "But we're stuck here until Kenny and Mark get back from their supply run."

Duck pouted. "I wish we could go on supply runs too. That would be so cool!"

Ben chuckled. "I don't know about cool, but it would definitely be interesting. Maybe we can ask Lee if we can go with them next time."

Duck's face lit up. "Really? You think he'll let us?"

Ben shrugged. "It's worth a shot. Let's go ask him."

The two boys made their way to Lee's room, where he was busy organizing the supplies they had brought back from their last run. They hesitated for a moment before knocking on the door.

"Come in," Lee called out.

"Hey, Lee, can we talk to you for a sec?" Ben asked.

"Sure, what's up?"

Duck spoke up. "We were wondering if we could come on the next supply run with you guys. We're getting really bored here."

Lee looked at them for a moment before answering. "I don't know, guys. It's dangerous out there. I don't want to put you in harm's way."

Ben pleaded with him. "Please, Lee. We won't get in the way, we promise. We just want to help out."

Duck nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, we're good at finding things. We could be like scouts!"

Lee sighed. "Okay, okay. I'll talk to the others and see what they think. But you have to promise to listen to everything I say and not wander off, got it?"

Ben and Duck grinned in excitement. "Got it!"

The rest of the afternoon was spent planning for the next supply run. Lee gave them a crash course in survival skills and taught them how to use a walkie-talkie in case of emergencies. Ben and Duck were thrilled to be included and couldn't wait for the next day to come.

As they were getting ready for bed, Ben turned to Duck with a mischievous grin. "Hey, you know what this means, right?"

"What?" Duck asked, confused.

"We're going to have our own adventure. Finally, people might actually start seeing me as an adult around here," Ben said.

Duck's face lit up with excitement. "Yeah, and we'll be the heroes who save the day!"

The two boys high-fived each other before settling down for the night, dreaming of the adventures that awaited them the next day.
