You can call me Howl(s), Hound(s) after my user. For an actual name, you can use Rey, S, Sto, Tori or Ree/Ri. I primarily use they/she, but ey/em and possibly xe/xem is acceptable.
Tone tags arenât usually needed but appreciated. I will use them for you, too, if you tell me to.
Info post on OSDD because the amount of confusion about it online is crazy.
âThis post is about OSDD, do not derail it. Don't drag endo shit in here either. When I say system I am referring to somebody with a CDD.
Also, I won't be talking about how OSDD actually functions as a dissociative disorder, nor will I be going into full detail on how CDDs form. I'm just explaining what OSDD is as a classification and defining some community terms.
Last thing, here's another post about the same subject. It has colored text if you're into that for readability.
Basics (& common misconceptions)
OSDD-1, OSDD-2, OSDD-3, and OSDD-4 are examples of OSDD given in the DSM. They are not the only types of OSDD.
Other Specified Dissociative Disorder, AKA OSDD, is any dissociative disorder that is not better explained by DID, DPDR, or Dissociative Amnesia, and the clinician chooses to specify why criteria are not met. OSDD is not limited to the 4 given examples. Unspecified Dissociative Disorder, AKA UDD or USDD, is any dissociative disorder that is not better explained by DID, DPDR, or Dissociative Amnesia, and the clinician does not specify why criteria are not met. So, no, DID and OSDD are not the same. We'll get further into that later, though.
Bit of a long quote from the DSM-5, but it's a very important one (defines other specified and unspecified disorders):
"DSM-5 provides two diagnostic options for presentations that do not meet the diagnostic criteria for any of the specific DSM-5 disorders: other specified disorder and unspecified disorder. The other specified category is provided to allow the clinician to communicate the specific reason that the presentation does not meet the criteria for any specific category within a diagnostic class. This is done by recording the name of the category, followed by the specific reason. For example, with an individual with persistent hallucinations occurring in the absence of any other psychotic symptoms (a presentation that does not meet criteria for any of the specific disorders in the chapter âSchizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disordersâ), the clinician would record âother specified schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorder, with persistent auditory hallucinations.â If the clinician chooses not to specify the reason that the criteria are not met for a specific disorder, then âunspecified schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorderâ would be diagnosed. Note that the differentiation between other specified and unspecified disorders is based on the clinicianâs choice to indicate or not the reasons why the presentation does not meet full criteria, providing maximum flexibility for diagnosis. When the clinician determines that there is enough available clinical information to specify the nature of the presentation, the âother specifiedâ diagnosis can be given. In those cases where the clinician is not able to further specify the clinical presentation (e.g., in emergency room settings), the âunspecifiedâ diagnosis can be given. This is entirely a matter of clinical judgment."
4 examples of OSDD
"Chronic and recurrent syndromes of mixed dissociative symptoms: This category includes identity disturbance associated with less-than-marked discontinuities in sense of self and agency, or alterations of identity or episodes of possession in an individual who reports no dissociative amnesia." â Referred to as OSDD-1 in community terms. Amnesia with less-than-marked discontinuities in sense of self and agency is called OSDD-1a in community terms. Alterations of identity or episodes of possession in an individual who reports no dissociative amnesia is called OSDD-1b in community terms. (Talk more on 1a & 1b later)
"Identity disturbance due to prolonged and intense coercive persuasion: Individuals who have been subjected to intense coercive persuasion (e.g., brainwashing, thought reform, indoctrination while captive, torture, long-term political imprisonment, recruitment by sects/cults or by terror organizations) may present with prolonged changes in, or conscious questioning of, their identity." â Referred to as OSDD-2 in community terms.
"Acute dissociative reactions to stressful events: This category is for acute, transient conditions that typically last less than 1 month, and sometimes only a few hours or days. These conditions are characterized by constriction of consciousness; depersonalization; derealization; perceptual disturbances (e.g., time slowing, macropsia); microamnesias; transient stupor; and/or alterations in sensory-motor functioning (e.g., analgesia, paralysis)." â Referred to as OSDD-3 in community terms.
"Dissociative trance: This condition is characterized by an acute narrowing or complete loss of awareness of immediate surroundings that manifests as profound unresponsiveness or insensitivity to environmental stimuli. The unresponsiveness may be accompanied by minor stereotyped behaviors (e.g., finger movements) of which the individual is unaware and/or that he or she cannot control, as well as transient paralysis or loss of consciousness. The dissociative trance is not a normal part of a broadly accepted collective cultural or religious practice." â Referred to as OSDD-4 in community terms. Important to note that dissociative trances can also occur in CDDs.
Bonus addition, OSDD-4 is classified as Trance Disorder in the ICD. You can read about Trance Disorder here. Possession Trance Disorder (another ICD exclusive) is also similar and can be read about here.
OSDD-1, OSDD-2, etc are not diagnostic terms. If you have "OSDD-3", your diagnosis will read something like "Other Specified Dissociative Disorder with acute dissociative reactions to stressful events". It will not say OSDD-3.
Still, I'm not against the usage of 1-4 (& 1a/1b) as community terms. It's much easier and gets the same point across.
OSDD-1 / OSDD systems
First, CDD stands for Complex Dissociative Disorder. It is not a specific diagnosis, it's a term that refers to dissociative disorders that cause alters. CDDs are DID, P-DID (ICD), OSDD-1, and sometimes UDD/USDD. Those with CDDs are referred to as systems. CDDs require trauma and dissociation at a young age in order to form.
Criterion A of DID: "Disruption of identity characterized by two or more distinct personality states, which may be described in some cultures as an experience of possession. The disruption in identity involves marked discontinuity in sense of self and sense of agency, accompanied by related alterations in affect, behavior, consciousness, memory, perception, cognition, and/or sensory-motor functioning. These signs and symptoms may be observed by others or reported by the individual." (Simplified: Presence of marked discontinuities in sense of self and agency, AKA alters.)
Criterion B of DID: "Recurrent gaps in the recall of everyday events, important personal information, and/or traumatic events that are inconsistent with ordinary forgetting." (Simplified: Presence of recurring amnesia.)
OSDD-1 is when all criteria are met for DID, minus either criterion A or criterion B.
The terms OSDD-1a and OSDD-1b are inspired by the DSM 4, where DDNOS-1a and DDNOS-1b were possible diagnoses. DDNOS-1a also referred to less-than-marked alters with amnesia and DDNOS-1b referred to marked alters without amnesia. OSDD-1 is more of a spectrum though, so it's possible to not cleanly fit into "1a" or "1b". Also, some people seem to think that those with OSDD-1a have no alters at all. This isn't true. If there is no presence of alters, it is Dissociative Amnesia, not OSDD-1.
OSDD-2 is a not a CDD, as the identity disturbance in it is not alters. OSDD-2 isn't limited to childhood trauma and may be formed as an adult, thus it's not possible for OSDD-2 to be a CDD.
Can't think of anything else to add. Thanks for reading. Also I didn't spellcheck this or anything sorry if there's typos.
If youâve been diagnosed with any form of of OSDD (or are in a system with someone who has been), one of my friendâs friends would be very grateful if you would be willing to fill out this Google form: https://forms.gle/9i5MCKNK6TocGEjQ8
You aren't required to answer every question, but anything you can give will be greatly appreciated :)
Itâs a questionnaire about OSDD and accessibility, for their college research, and it only asks for information relevant to your personal experience as an OSDD-haver. Your email address will not be recorded.
Color sews Delta and Epic (and himself) sweaters when they rip or tear. I think Color would either fix the old sweater if it could be fixed, or just sew them a whole new sweater if it's beyond saving. (I also think it'd be cute if Color made little pieces of clothing for the group's animals for when the weather gets cold.)
I'd imagine he'd have to do this often, especially with Delta. With how much Delta moves around, they probably tear up clothing quite a bit and very often. I also imagine Delta might have patches (either he bought them or someone in the group made them for him) covering random rips or tears in any of his clothing. Especially if it's a piece of clothing that he doesn't want to throw away for whatever reason.
As a DID system we personally don't mind when people write killer as a system, so long as they do their research!!! And don't do stupid stroertotypes like "the evil alter" and such. Not a RAMCOA system personally, but we've seen good rep of killer as a RAMCOA system. As long as people do real research and talk to ppl we don't see much issue with it
heyo so Iâm writing an Undertale au and the sans of that au has DID do you think thatâs rude if I do like should I change it especially since it has RAMCOA which wasnât my original intentions and then I kinda realized that was what was happening their a cult and the whole programming an alter and such itâs kinda been an au Iâve worked on for a couple years itâs grown and evolved but I donât really want to write something thatâs going to hurt others ya know
Well, I donât have DID nor have I lived anything like ramcoa, so I doubt Iâm the appropriate person to be asking about representation.
If anyone with DID and/or experience with RAMCOA see this and want to chime in feel free to do so, but Iâd mostly just recommend research and looking around for someone who has those lived experiences and is willing to answer questions about representation of those experiences in media.
And of course, people w/ DID and those whoâve experienced RAMCOA arenât a monolith. So youâre gonna encounter diverse opinions on this topic as isâso best to start with those youâll be representing.
Who currently has possession of Delta, since Zorox has been gone for a long time (and it seems he won't return to produce content for this AU)
I found an account on Tumblr called Othertale archive, I kept scrolling and etc, this made me confused about the chronological order of the AU, like, canonically does Color know other Sanses? Isn't the old version of Othertale canonical? I really need to understand the correct order
I fail to understand why would an ownership be gone if the person doesn't produce content for a good while lol, Delta is still owned by AnimatedZorox unless he states otherwise himself.
Don't worry about any order regarding reading othertale, you can start with othertale colors, the othertale archive account did an amazing job collecting every bet of info regarding othertale in the past till now and I am grateful for that effort, but as the name said, it's an archive so you can go through it for extra info and research for reference.
Old othertale as I stated before is not canon anymore but some elements are still the same in othertale colors.
And if I said the push to interpret Mike as gay no matter what is some of the most blatant biphobia Iâve ever seen? Like all the genuine posts calling mileven straight slop and the utter vitriol towards when Mike is shown point blank to be attracted to El⊠if you genuinely believe by/ler was somehow implied then that makes mike bi and nothing less. People insisting bi men donât exist and are just closeted gay men is a real thing and itâs what you sound like when you bend over backwards to discredit Mikeâs interest in El.
I donât think we ought to normalize or justify bullying as a means to keep people from being annoying â a sentiment that in and of itself could make for a whole articleâs worth of conversation â but I do think we should make a habit of politely but directly telling people âhey I didnât like thatâ, âthat wasnât funnyâ, âyou are mistakenâ, and the like if itâs called for, and more importantly, you should be able to take a âthat wasnât funnyâ for instance without taking it personally, because protecting a polite harmony where no one can criticize each other, not even politely, is also really, really bad.
Given the nature of the Spartan IIs and IIIs in the Halo franchise I have to wonder if any of the child soldiers developed dissociative disorders or dissociative tendencies
The Gamma Company S-IIIs were all intentionally made paranoid schizophrenics (to the point they have to take military grade chemical stabalization cocktails called "smoothers") to make them harder to kill in combat.
The trade off is that they can keep fighting and killing well past the point a normal human (or even another Spartan in truth) would have stopped. Such as having their entire torso evaporated by a needler supercombine, or getting shot or nearly evaporated, or having multiple limbs broken.
Beyond the Gammas, members of both Alpha and Beta company showed signs of sociopathy, psychopathy, and deep seated cognative dissassociation. Ex; Roland and Jonah, both of Beta Company, from the Headhunters short story.
Perfect example is Emile, who the UNSC literally could not send on missions involving the Insurrection because of the things he would do to those caught in his sights. This is the same government that saw what happened on Far Isle and said "fuck it, SECOND SUN", mind you.
It doesnt. Its a side effect of the mutagenic chemical stimulants they were given to make them more resilient
It works on the lizard portion of the brain IIRC. They become harder to kill and more resistant to trauma and stress
Its chemically similar to a thing called a Waverly-class augmenter, more colloquially known as a "rumbledrug", which essentially turns off the limiters on a human body to let the user do stuff that'd normally kill someone (like eat a half-mag of incoming 7.62), at the cost of sanity and stability.
Was common for a little bit among the Innies until incidents of the users ending up killing their allies more than the supposed incoming Spartans they were trying to fight filtered through and they got dropped.
