I couldn’t resist: Ralph/Laurie 6 or 13? ;)
6. - Any tasks that are always left to one person?
when they first move in together, ralph and laurie initially strive to keep the distribution of housework relatively equitable, though this still results in small arguments from time to time. however, it gradually becomes apparent that there are some tasks that are just better suited to one of them because of their respective experiences and disabilities. ralph, for instance, is fastidiously neat and takes on most of the cleaning and repair jobs around their flat that are particularly difficult or cumbersome for laurie to do with his bad leg, and he somehow manages to keep their flat perpetually spotless. they both cook but laurie is somewhat better at it, having accumulated a fair number of old family recipes from his mother while growing up (ralph is more used to preparing simple meals, having lived at sea for most of his adult life, and losing part of his hand has also made it harder for him to try anything complicated or fancy). ralph typically does the driving for the two of them, which forces him to curtail his hard drinking habits. laurie usually is the one to walk their dog as well as house-train it and teach it tricks; ralph mostly just spoils their dog lovingly because he never got to have one as a child.
13. - What do they do for fun? Do they have a favorite activity or do they like to switch things up?
they often like to go punting when ralph is visiting laurie at oxford, and they spend lazy afternoons exploring the river and picnicking with wine or champagne. laurie still enjoys swimming despite his self-consciousness about his leg (and ralph enjoys watching him swim). ralph eventually gets a sailboat after the war and takes laurie sailing every now and then when he’s itching for the sea.
with laurie being such a music and art lover, they go on a lot of dates to operas, concerts, plays, museums, etc. they frequently listen to the radio together at home, discussing politics and wartime strategy and cursing out the nazis. they’ll occasionally deign to watch a popular film at the cinema, which (as they are both horrible snobs) they’ll probably mock mercilessly afterwards on the drive home. they don’t go to queer parties very often, though they will at times attend smaller gatherings with alec and other close friends, in part for the rare opportunity to be open with their relationship in front of other people. laurie abhors any form of dancing in public because of his leg, but ralph is genuinely good at dancing (having learned from one of his former girlfriends) and can sometimes coax laurie into slow dancing with him when they’re alone.
their absolute favorite activity, of course, is usually confined to the bedroom…..but laurie would adamantly deny this. ;)
