The Color of Your Spots
Due to the Coleoptera having such a drastic life cycle, the actions of what some subspecies do as a grub can have an impact on their lives as an adult. For example, the Stigma (Twice Stabbed Ladybeetle) are known for having bright red spots and bodies as adults. This color can be highly affected by what they eat as grubs, the more red plant matter they eat, the more red their bodies. This has led some families who care deeply about looks to have their grubs only eat red food. This isn’t inherently a bad thing, but if the diet isn’t varied enough it can leave their bodies weak and frail. So they may have the most beautiful, vibrant colors, but barely be able to walk.
