Bonus prompt for new year's eve: What new year's resolutions are your favorite Twilight characters making?

Carlisle is really going to try to be a little more organized in his home office and his office at work. (He resolves to do better at this every year, but it's hard to be motivated when he really does know where everything is. Maybe the 300th time is the charm?)

Esme knows she reacts to Edward and Rosalie too much. She's certainly more hands-off than she used to be, but it's hard not to intervene when their bickering gets extra petty or when one of them is whining about something that would be so easy to fix. So this year she's determined to back off another degree or so.

Alice finally got a clue this year re: Bella really not liking the fashion attacks. Bella probably wouldn't ever have spoken up and Alice is clueless in general, but Jasper finally told Alice in private. So Alice is going to try to a) consult Bella a little more re: what she wants to wear and b) not be as judgy on a day-to-day basis about Bella's appearance. We'll see how this goes.

Emmett has been trying for five years now to perfect the design for his jetpack-enhanced shatterproof skis. This is gonna be the year! Why settle for boring ol' gravity when you can level up and POWER down the slopes? Check out Emmett's Purchasing Guide for more vampire-friendly products!

Dec. 25 prompt: Tell us about a happy Christmas/winter memory from childhood that a Twilight character can still remember.

(This is taken directly from my grandmother's childhood, as she was born just a few years before Emmett.)

One Christmas in the late 80s, Esme asked the kiddos to each incorporate one of the Christmas traditions they remembered from their childhoods. (She had had the idea years before that, but she waited until a year when Alice and Jasper were spending the winter traveling, so Alice wouldn't feel left out memory-wise.)

One of Emmett's favorite Christmas memories is that his dad used to wake everyone up on Christmas morning by setting off firecrackers in the fireplace. So he picked that, but being Emmett, of course he had to supersize the tradition. Wouldn't it be fun to have actual fireworks in the fireplace!! They would shoot straight up the chimney and make a cool fireworks show above the house!

So at 6 a.m. he pushed everyone outside and set it all off. And that's how three rockets got stuck halfway up the chimney and Esme had to rebuild the entire second floor smack in the middle of a blizzard.

Just a quick few random headcanons while I rest after baking!

Emmett is getting these for all the couples he knows:

Luca doesn't come every year to Volterra to visit Renata, but he decided to surprise her this Christmas. He's spent the past few months hanging around New Orleans checking out the coffee shops, late night digs, parks with live music, etc. He recorded several hours of live creole and Zydeco music and picked up a few indie albums for her. Even though Chelsea did all she could to break their bond centuries ago, Luca and Renata still consider each other family and both miss their days of traveling the world together. So every now and then Luca brings something like this so Renata can experience a new corner of the world along with him.

Rosalie doesn't compose very often, or rather she does but it takes her a long time to get a piece to where she's happy with it. This year she wrote Emmett a ballad on acoustic guitar. There are several little verses, each of which features something she loves about him. They'll use this song in their next wedding.

Peter stole a Photostick and an iPhone-compatible macro lens for Charlotte. She finally, reluctantly, grumpily, switched to smartphone photography earlier this year... and never looked back. While she misses some of the features of her SLR, it's been wonderful not to have to carry it around and protect it from the weather/environment. Long gone are the days when she had to carry a backpack and a waterproof case for all her pictures.

Last year, Edward got Bella a new leather-bound sketchbook and this year she's gifting it back to him. Its pages are filled to the corners with quick sketches and more finished drawings of everyone in the family and a few friends, though Edward and Renesmee are featured the most. She's even done a few self-portraits since she knows that they're Edward's favorite. Since she felt funny drawing herself staring up from the page, she had Esme take a few pictures of her doing various things and drew off of those.

Dec. 23 - Pick a Cullen and tell us about their first Christmas with the family.

Jasper's first Christmas was bewildering. It was his first Christmas, period, in a very, very long time. He had grown so used to vampire time, a life lived without much regard to dates that mattered to humans, and even though, a few months in, he was kind of? getting used to how...weird...the Cullens were, this felt like it was a bridge too far.

They had a tradition, dating back to 1919 and that very first tree Carlisle tricked Edward into, of decorating the tree on Christmas Eve. And they had special ornaments that meant things to each of them, and that brought back memories. And Jasper hung back, a little wary of joining in, and the rest of the family, very used to giving him as much space as he wanted, let him sit on the periphery of things.

So he just sat there, as the fire crackled and Bing Crosby played on the record player, and Esme strung the tree with bubble lights, and Alice flitted around with a Santa hat on, and Rosalie wasn't arguing with anybody, and Emmett almost knocked the entire tree over trying to put a topper on it (it was 17 feet tall; they had a very grand foyer at the time). And he hung there, taking in Alice's joy, and Emmett's giddiness, and the rare contentment from Rosalie and Edward, and Carlisle and Esme's utter pride...

...and he realized he might have finally discovered what it was to feel at peace.

Twilight Advent Calendar Prompts

Dec. 22 - Besides the locket from Bella and the iPod from Edward, what gifts did Renesmee receive for her first Christmas?

Obviously Alice got her a whole new wardrobe. Jasper didn’t have any ideas so he just added his name to the card. Emmett, Carlisle, and Esme got her actual toys, but they were vintage, like the pull along rotary phone and shape sorting box. Rosalie got her a reed instrument since her saliva wouldn’t corrode the mouthpiece (I’m thinking something smallish like an oboe to start). Charlie got her play-doh and kinetic sand, which were her favorite gifts (although the sand was the bane of Esme’s existence)

Dec. 21 - Tell us about a Twilight vampire doing something kind for humans (or a specific human).

Every holiday season, Esme volunteers at a soup kitchen to feed the homeless. She enlists a different child each year. They all feel good about themselves after participating, although they always whine and complain about it (except Bella, she is always openly willing to go with Esme). The one who enjoys it the most, but would never say so, is Rosalie.
