Cycle 4: Day 21

I speak to Annie, she’s getting contractions. I’m desperately worried because it’s too early. I e-mail Gabriel, who replies saying he’s sending twilleys to watch over her.

“Twilleys”, as Gabriel and I call them, are something that the two of us have possibly invented, although I’m not sure (because I’ve heard other people describe the same thing under different names). I suppose they are a cross between kind spirits and angels. They are tiny creatures, silver in colour that move like sycamore “helicopters” (or ‘”polysnouts” as Gabriel calls them) and they come to people when they are sick or afraid. Sometimes they sing and sometimes they laugh. But the important thing about twilleys is that you cannot call them for yourself. They have to be sent to you with an intention and purpose.

With Annie in my thoughts, I eventually fall asleep exhausted.
