Shane Wiigwas is very cool, and I keep telling my partner how he reminded me of Kayanesenh Paul Williams, an attorney and author who has been devoted to protecting Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe and Wabanaki land and people. I was introduced to him through his legal text Kayanerenkó:wa --The Great Law of Peace, and to that text by Twin Rabbit who gave a deep dive on Indigenous Anarchism.
The legal text was responsible for a really big shift in my ability to conceptualize life outside of the European (and subsequent Canadian and US-American) frameworks of law, morality, justice, and people's relationships to each other and the land they live on.
Not only did this work reshape my understanding of the law as a then-student of law, but it changed how I imagined what is possible to do with society, and how the perspectives of colonization do not represent the dearth of what has been possible and what is possible for communal living and society-building.
Shane's actor, Dallas Goldtooth, is also an environmental activist, and was a major public figure in opposing the Keystone and DAPL pipelines, being a visible face fighting the good fight at Standing Rock.
