i figured out how i am going to handle Night and Eventide vs Sacram Etro.
Aka one is more a take on becoming a regent and the stresses of desperately trying to rise to an occasion you never wanted. (Unwillingness to grow up/take responsibility)
Vs
Focus on certain worldbuilding aspects plus the concept of a fall from grace, so to speak. The agony of losing one's identity that you never fought, using it as a protective shell. Except shit sucks and your Pride has to take an L. And rebuilding from the bruised ego.
And then I need to fuck around w the omegaverse au, and figure out if I am just gonna drop the worldbuilding and have 100 inconsistent things. Tempted.
Comin outta my cage and ive been doin just cringe. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
AKA: I wanted something that wasn't the Crownsguard or Kingsglaive for characters. And I was introduced to and like the idea of the Carabineri. So I am pouring some idyllic ideas on top of military organisation. I have a lot of feelings about these things.
The Royal Gendarmerie is the civilian law enforcement system in Insomnia, formerly all of Lucis. They are a general, civilian based force, unlike the specialised operations of the Crownsguard and Kingsglaive.
There are three primary branches: Civilian Guard, Specialists, and Enforcement.
-Civilian Guard-
The Civilian Guard handles various neighbourhoods, attending to minor schisms and general welfare of the communities under their watch. They do not handle fire or emergency medicine directly, but many members are trained to support such actions. They also have tactical teams for more serious situations, especially as tensions rise between Insomnia and the Niflheim empire.
The Civilian Guard is responsible for evacuation plans and containment of emergencies.
Members applying to the Civilian Guard must be at least eighteen years of age, have completed secondary education, and must go through intensive training. Most members of the Royal Gendarmerie are in the Civilian Guard. Those who participate in the Junior Royal Gendarmerie are able to enter into the Civilian Guard immediately while they pursue post-secondary education.
-Specialist Units-
The Specialist branch handles the over arching mechanics of Insomnia. This includes regulating medical facilities, ensuring the welfare of the labour force, and monitoring the financial sector. There are also opportunities to go into the legal and judicial components of the society. This is also where the Lucian Historians come from.
Specialists require a degree in their field of choice, plus applicable training relevant to the role they wish to take.
-Enforcement Branch-
The Enforcement branch is the most regulated of the three. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, and will enroll in a post-graduate program. All applicant's must be twenty-two or older. There are two main components of the Enforcement: The Interventionists and the Investigative.
Interventionists are the ones who handle any internal complaints of misbehaviour from the Royal Gendarmerie, Crownsguard, or Kingsglaive. They are highly specialised, and require at least five recommendations.
The Investigative section are the ones who handle the enforcement of laws, anti-terrorism efforts, investigating violent crimes, and participate in forensic studies.
Most who are chosen for the Crownsguard come from the Royal Gendarmerie, and often from the Enforcement branch. There is a possibility of applying for the Kingsglaive, but it is so rare that it is barely worth mentioning.
-Junior Royal Gendarmerie-
Those who have not yet reached adulthood can apply to the Junior Royal Gendarmerie. It is an ideal option for those who foresee themselves entering into the Royal Gendarmerie in their adulthood. Those with a more academic leaning may also join in order to have access to advanced curriculum at a younger age; this is especially true for those seeking out medical or law based careers in the future. Seeing as requirements for involvement increase with rank, it can also provide a basic income, though it is not encouraged for students to join the JRG specifically for an income.
The JRG accepts every 01 March. Applicants can start the process of their application as young as age twelve, but they must be 13 years of age before 01 March. Applicants must have exceptional academic scores and pass all the preliminary tests to begin the second phase of applications. There is an interviewing phase which seeks out those who show "exceptional strength of character, team-working, and leadership." The interviewing phase also involves psychological testing, in the hopes of catching any warning signs.
The Junior Royal Gendarmerie has three private high schools that it operates out of, and students who are accepted into the JRG have their tuition waived and are enrolled into the appropriate courses. Often students will have an abbreviated and advanced secondary schooling experience. The schools also have lower level college courses.
It is not unheard of and not particularly rare for a thirteen year old who joins the JRG to almost have an Associate's level degree upon their graduation from secondary school.
The JRG works alongside the Civilian Guard. Essentially they can join the Civilian Guard at age 18, or graduation from their courses.
-Rankings-
There are two branches of rankings for those involved with the Royal Gendarmerie. The Enlisted ("on the ground") and the Officers.
The JRG ranks are analogous to those of their adult Enlisted counterparts with the exception of the "Student Carabineer" rank. A special case is F-00, the Student Officer. That is a JRG rank for those seeking an officer career.
Tomorrow… Vespera would continue her training. She would continue perusing the archives. Her bones itched; self-destruction loomed just on the horizon, and it refused to be shaken. Her muscles burned with latent energy that she needed to wear out. The type of ache that she could only find within the Crownsguard or the Glaives. Night approached, and she didn’t know who would be out or where. Yet still, she slunk to where the Crownsguard resided.
There in all her glory, Katherine stood, running through exercises with a heavy axe. A notebook sits in a chair not far from her, and a stopwatch hung around her neck. Though she never wielded a sword, the best way Vespera would describe her friend was as her Sword. If Jonas as a bodyguard was her Shield, and Phaedra as her advisor was her hand, Katherine as her dearest friend and confidant was her Sword.
Katherine logged whatever it was that she was logging for this training session and caught sight of Vespera when she turned around. “Shit. You look pissed off.”
“Astute as ever.” Vespera replied. While it was sharp, she smiled anyways.
“Meeting with Father dearest go that bad?”
Vespera sighed. “I need to fight and drink about it.”
Katherine shrugged and took the stopwatch off her gym clothes. “Well, go gear up. Unless you’re too coward to fight me.”
“As if,” Vespera scoffed. She summoned her practise clothes and went to change in the locker room.
One outfit changed and one summoned weapon later, and she stood in front of Katherine. Katherine summoned an axe that had a knack for thrusting her into submission. Vespera switched from rapier to whip and took a defensive position. They both circled until Vespera snapped forward and used the handle of the whip to block the axe blow. Katherine tried to block Vespera from getting to her side, but some fancy footwork and a flick of the wrist had Katherine stumbling.
Vespera loosed the hold on her friend’s ankle and ducked under the full swing of the axe. Switching to shurikens, Katherine decided a mace would be better. Longer range, still good in melee distance, she was told. Blows were suspiciously close to being hand to hand, and they had sparred so much that they knew each other as well as dance partners. Vespera always had to get around Katherine, and Katherine always had to keep her boxed in.
Something they had been practising was going through the range of weapons they felt comfortable with. Different situations required different fighting styles. Going after a dragoon versus a mage versus a swordsman all had different pros and cons— an eternal game of rock, paper, scissors. Katherine swept low and then tossed thunder to the ground. It shook both of them, but it would keep Vespera within range until the effects wore off.
The blocking, evading, and striking continued for about twenty minutes until Vespera became pinned by the blunted edge of the practice axe. They both stared, sweaty, gross, and covered in scratches. Katherine was the first to break face, smiling and then laughing.
“It’s always worth the shock to get you.” Katherine laughed.
Vespera groaned, "You’ve got resilience to it. My fragile muscles can't not lock up."
“And you can warp. We all have our strengths.”
They spent a few minutes talking with one another before making their departure. Public transport was typically off the menu, but neither Katherine nor Vespera had it in them to continue on foot. The tram was fast, and they would be able to get to a bodega and home in under 20 minutes, all and all.
Vespera had chucked her trainings uniform into the Armiger before boarding the bus, despite the late January cold. Katherine was better dressed in her Crownsguard uniform. They wandered around the shop, picking up easy food for dinner, a bottle of brandy, and a few bottles of wine. The exhaustion was hitting by the time they carried the bags back to the apartment, but it wasn't yet unmanageable.

My current projects are mostly FFXV. The only ongoing thing I have posted right now is Night and Eventide.
“Maybe protecting princesses does have its perks.” Nyx joked. Breaking open the bottle caused the contents to shimmer around him, and he relaxed into the wall they sat against. “Yeah, that’s the good stuff.”
