I hc shadow to be a little bit aromantic asexual (but really who doesn't these days is the real question). Outside of his sexuality I've gotta say it's that he says silly stuff from the 50's/doesn't know the proper slang to use right now because obviously he wasn't around for 50 years. So now whenever he really needs to express emotion he'll pull out the 'old' vocab]
