i bet when sam was two and dean was almost six, john remembered how much mary used to love taking cheesy photos on holidays, complete with matching outfits, and decided he should honor her tradition, despite how little the pictures had mattered to him in the past. so he stopped off in a local mall to pick out the first matching things he could find in the boys’ sizes and hauled sam and dean off to take a picture with the easter bunny.

and when it was their turn, i bet dean sat down and began eagerly reporting all of the toys he’d been dreaming of to the man in the bunny suit, his eyes growing big at the possibilities. but in his excitement, he had smiled a little too big when it came time for the picture, jutting out his chin and stretching his grin so far that his eyes squeezed shut. meanwhile, sam the curious toddler just glanced around a lot, taking in the view of the whole spring set up and got a little overwhelmed by the whole experience, beginning to get upset and pout just as the camera went off.

the picture was definitely not their best and certainly not to mary’s happy family standards, but john kept it in his wallet for years, even after the boys were full-grown hunters, because something about it always made him happy he’d gotten it taken.

and after john was gone, sam and dean probably found it with all of his things and had a ton of fun arguing over which one of them was making the dumber face before finally deciding that yeah, they both looked pretty bad, but the matching sweater vests had to be the worst part.

"Dude, seriously, that game was awesome!" Dean was still in his lacrosse gear, pads secured around his elbows and knees, grinning widely. It was around 9pm and the mid-April sky was dark as he and Sam walked slowly to their car. Dean already stopped by the practice field to talk to the coaches and other dudes from the team so now he could stroll with Sam, an arm around his little brother’s shoulders, and his bag slung over his other shoulder.

"Yeah, it was pretty good." Dean said with a sappy smile, "Just glad I didn’t get knocked down like 39 did to Chris." Sam turned his head to look up at Dean, taking in the grass stains and sweat marks on his face.

"I’m serious, Dean, you were awesome. You made 5 out of those 8 goals. The Varsity team is lucky to have you." Sam wrapped his left arm around Dean’s waist, using it to shake him a little (into believing him) as well as semi-carry him to the car. He could drive them home; he knew Dean was too sore and tired to drive.

"Shut up, Sammy." Dean rolled his eyes with a small smile as he saw the car in sight. They walked slowly up to it and Dean let Sam open the trunk and take his gear to put inside of it. "I had assists on at least 3 of them." Sam opened the passenger side door and let Dean slide in, groaning like an old man, before closing it softly.

He jogged around the hood quickly before leaping into the driver’s seat. Dean was splayed across the passenger seat, obviously sore. Sam leaned across the console between them and kissed Dean softly on the lips before pulling away and kissing him on the cheek as well, "Either way, I’m proud of you. You definitely killed 'em out there." Dean grinned before snuggling deeper into the sweet leather of the impala.
