Phew! I’ve been missing in action for so long and came back to find so many good shares from everyone! I’m psyched to see people are still making such amazing work for this fandom, which has my heart. Thank you @orange-peony, @leithillustration, @aristocratic-otter, @larkral, @roomwithanopenfire, @nausikaaa, @bookishbroadwayandblind, @fiend-for-culture, @thewholelemon, @monbons, @martsonmars, @ic3-que3n, and @artsyunderstudy for the recent tags. I’ve had a big project at work and a few staffing hiccups lately, all of which have left me with no more than one day off per week in what feels like months. To top it all off, I FINALLY managed to arrange a 4-day weekend for myself this week and what do I do on the very first day? If you said, “randomly decide to dig into a bag of caramels on the Friday before Labor Day and subsequently lose a crown at a point in time where there’s no way to get it fixed until Tuesday at the earliest,” you are both correct and very eccentric. Life is Not Fair, sadly.
I’ve managed to squeeze in some writing this week, though, for the first time in forever. Shares under the cut (and some of it is from what will be an E-rated fic, so the shares reflect that):
In Time Will Lie Down and Be Still, my M-rated SnowBaz Practical Magic AU with @rimeswithpurple, I’ve got to the bit where DI Simon has come over to the house to interrogate the boys and eat breakfast, not necessarily in that order of importance. Baz has been tasked with flirting with Simon to throw him off the scent, and it goes absolutely swimmingly:
Snow looks up and gives me a lopsided smile. “Well, I found the fruit,” he says. “I’m going with sour cherry, what do you think?”
“That’s not even a real type of scone,” I sneer, before remembering what I’m supposed to be doing here. Flirting probably doesn’t entail open hostility. “Sounds delicious.” I rest on my elbow awkwardly, trying to tilt toward him.
Snow nods his head and leans in. “I think scones are kind of like sandwiches or tacos,” he says in a conspiratorial whisper. “You can put anything you like in them.”
Is that…innuendo? Crowley, I’m bad at this. Snow’s eyebrows come together as I chuckle, probably because he’s not used to friendly behaviour from me. I push a stray lock of hair behind my ear and twist my torso to angle my backside out, then quickly straighten up when Snow looks at me askance.
“Er, are you feeling all right?” he asks. I bite my lower lip and he squints suspiciously but continues working, sliding the tray of scones into the oven. I set about making tea, because everything else I’m doing is a complete disaster.
Does anyone remember when I posted a dead darling from last year’s EGF? It was this:
I’m startled from my fantasy by the sound of someone clearing their throat. I freeze, then force myself to open my eyes.
Baz is standing in the doorway, biting his lower lip. I try to give him a cheeky grin. “…Babe. What’re you doing home?”
Baz raises his eyebrow, unimpressed. “I could ask you the same thing, Snow. I stopped by the builder’s office between classes to bring you lunch—” I suddenly catch sight of the Pret bag under his arm—“and they said you had called in sick. Of course I rushed back to take care of you, and now I find you—” Baz’s gaze sweeps over my crotch, where my hand is still gripping my cock—“Working from home.”
Well, I hung onto it. I’m really wavering on the use of the word crotch there, because I can’t decide if it’s a little gross sounding or not. I can’t help feeling it’s funnier than if I replace it with lap. Feel free to weigh in, lol. (If it matters, Simon is sitting on the couch and is mostly clothed; he’s just pushed his jeans and pants down). ANYWAY, I have begun writing around the snippet to make a proper fic…for a value of proper, that is. I’ve written all the parts that will come before it, and a fair amount of what is er, coming after. Here’s a snippet (Simon has followed Baz into the kitchen having arranged himself but with his jeans still undone):
Oh. My breath hitches as Baz advances on me. His eyes are dark. He puts his hands on my shoulders and steers me backwards until I bump up against a kitchen chair. He pushes me down and then pulls my knees apart one at a time, spreading my legs wide. I groan and start to reach for him, but he gives a short shake of his head. “You’ve done enough touching for one day, Snow. Sit on those hands.”
“For fuck’s sake, Baz—” I begin, nevertheless obeying. He shuts me up with a piercing look and lifts my chin.
“You’re lucky that you’re cute,” he says.
I grin. “Yeah?”
Baz lifts an eyebrow. “Yeah. So tell me, Snow, what was going through that thick head of yours as you were expending resources on our not-very-stain-proof sofa?”
And that’s what I’ve been up to! I’m also participating in the CO anniversary exchange this year and I have some great prompts that I’m excited to get working on. Hopefully I’ll have something to share from that soon. In the meantime, I hope everyone is having a great weekend.
