no I won't shut up about it actually. there's no greater compliment than knowing someone continues to think about something I've written after closing the tab. even knowing people reread separated from time to time because they loved it so much is just mind-boggling to me, not because I haven't done that to other stories in the past, but that I never thought anyone would do that for my stories. Like I don't know how to impart upon you guys just how much each and every one of you guys, with your wonderful comments and asks and art have uplifted me and inspired me and motivated me not just in finishing Separated, but even with my more recent stories. You guys made me really and truly believe I was a good writer, a great one, because I did not think that before. And I never once thought anyone would leave my stories where I put my blorbos into situations for funsies being impacted or affected at all. The fact that some of you still think about it? Will talk about it with your friends? It is simply mind boggling to me. And I can't thank you all enough for the love and support you've given my sad little story.
Are you still planing on doing that UWMA rewatch?!?!?!!? I completely agree about it being one of the best Thai BLs. I had no idea Between Us was coming out soon until I saw your post - what are your predictions and hopes? Did you read the source material?
I am, soon as I get home I think I'll start. I'll post I promise.
Between Us might be more towards the end of November, (Nov 6 apparently) I don't know the date. And, of course, Thailand don't bank on it actually coming out when they say it will.
I have not read the source material. But I do like the author in general, and I do think NounPrem are excellent. So I have modestly high hopes.
i just read your albedo x reader and kashdewhfihf???? i love it so muchh 🥺🥺💞💞💞💞 and btw i noticed you also included a slight albedo x reader in some of your venti oneshots, c-can i ask what's reader's relationship with albedo there 🥺👉👈 i got so curious at the end of Aegis HHHHHH 😭😭😭😭😭
O-oh my, anon here has a sharp eye. I’m so flattered you noticed the smallest details in my oneshots (〃ω〃)
As for reader’s relationship with albedo in TWMA and Aegis, i’ll leave it up to the reader’s interpretation!
Apparently i had most of a chapter of ‘Til We Meet Again written .... so i finished it and uhhh
I’m deciding if i should just post it and then maybe have there be a while before i update again or just continue the waiting game until i have more written.
im not sure if you were there(sorry) but two days ago we were watching wakkos wish in the animaniacs server as a last stream, and everyone including me kept going "this is just making me want to reread separated....", thought youd like to know
Did you have any ideas that didn’t make the final cut of Separated?
Originally, Wakko was going to go to therapy with Scratchy, which was going to be one of the reasons he was so well adjusted, but after some research in how therapy works with kids, it was scrapped because Wakko was too young at the time, and based how I was setting up the chapters, I couldn't get it to fit with the other two's shit.
This is more development wise, but Angelica had three different versions of herself including the one that I went with. In one, she was dead, and in the other, she was just like her mother and was going to be utterly horrible to Dot.
There was also a bunch of little scenes that I thought about having Dot have during her megachapter (9) that were trimmed due to length and lack of relevance. Like, one was going to be having her and her mother actually go dress shopping to have clothes tailored for her, but I couldn't really get it to work and it felt real clunky, so I just let her have a closet full of clothes and was done with it. I think there was going to be a bit more with the servants, but there wasn't anything fleshed out enough to make actual scenes with; maybe I'll put it in that missing scenes fic i promised and then never wrote aldkfjadsf.
Ahh, this was mostly a joke, but some friends and I had this idea that Mai and Marin were actually distantly related LMAO. Like, Mai's mom's sister's kid was one of Marin's parents or something like that.
I think that's it... of course, it's been a minute since I've thought about Separated, so there might be others, but for the most part, I stuck to my guns about the ideas I chose for each section for the Warners. I usually had a clear idea what they would go through whenever I started a new chapter, so there weren't many ideas to scrap.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
“So… ghosts,” Mai summed up.
Queen Angelina Warner chuckled. “Ghosts.”
Tragically, two mothers were taken too early from their world at the hands of a horrible and cruel tyrant. When they find themselves caught between life and death, they learn how to cope with their after-life and learn how to hope again. Together.
Summary: Introductions, revelations, and a party. What a way to close this out.
Or, the Warners are finally, truly, unequivocally reunited.
Dot pat her hands on her thighs quickly, making a pitter-patter-pitter-patter sound fill the small hospital room. She kneaded the air with her toes and kicked her feet in time with her patting. She even tried biting her lip and tongue. Still, none of those things helped the anxiety swirling in her stomach.
“When do you think he’ll wake up?” asked Dot.
Wakko shrugged from his seat beside her, then looked away from his magazine toward the sleeping man in the hospital bed, hooked up to an IV with a small circle of plastic piercing the right side of his bandaged chest. “I dunno. I don’t know how injuries work.”
“Me either,” said Dot. She pat and kicked and kneaded quietly for a few more moments before continuing, “Do you think it’ll be before Yakko’s done?”
Wakko shrugged again. “Mr. Man’s been here longer than Yakko, so maybe.”
“His name’s Marin.”
“Mr. Man.”
“Mare-in.”
"Mr. Man."
"Marin!"
“We’re saying the same thing.”
Dot rolled her eyes, and they fell into silence.
Dot started up her nervous stimming again. After twenty seconds of quiet, she said, "I'm glad they were able to get him here so quickly. That nurse from your village knows what she's doing."
"Dot," said Wakko, and even though his voice wasn't harsh or annoyed, she still flinched. "It’s gonna be alright. He's gonna be fine; that's what people go to hospitals for. To get better."
"I know," Dot said, her knee bouncing so hard she was shaking the chair. "But—But what if he isn't?"
"He will be," said Wakko.
Dot didn't know how he could sound so sure of it.
"... Are you… okay?" he asked.
"I—I just—" Dot sighed and wrapped her arms around herself. She whispered, "I just need him to be okay."
"... Aw, y-you care about me…"
Dot gasped and ripped her head up. Marin's eyes were open, albeit only a little, and his head was turned toward them. He had a small, pained smile on his face.
"How embarrassing…" he continued.
Relief burst through Dot and she launched herself toward him with a cry of his name.
She scrambled up onto the bed as he let out a strained laugh, opening his arms up to her. She wasted no time in throwing her arms around his neck and giving him a squeeze, until he gave a pained wheeze and she pulled away like she'd been burned.
"Sorry, I—"
"No, come here," Marin interrupted, tugging on her arm. "I don't care if it hurts, let me hold you."
Dot did care, however, so she just carefully hovered over him while they embraced.
(Wakko just gripped the magazine tight in his hands and watched them hug. He watched and watched and watched and wondered what that twist in his heart was. Why he looked at this stranger holding his sister so gently, so lovingly, and wanted to break something.)
When they pulled away, Marin asked, "So… what happened?"
"So much," said Dot. "I don't even know what's all important but—" She gasped suddenly, then whipped toward Wakko, "Oh, but! But this is more important. Marin, this is Wakko, my brother. Wakko, this is Marin, my—my other brother."
The magazine crinkled in Wakko's hands.
"It's… nice to meet you," said Marin, sounding strained as he met Wakko's eye.
Wakko's face showed nothing of the conflicting emotions pulling at his heart nor of the confusing, violent thoughts that rushed through his head. He simply blinked and said, "You… too."
Dot's eyes shifted from brother to brother, nervously worrying at her lip.
After five seconds of awkward, silent eye contact, Marin breathed in and looked toward Dot. "So you wanna fill me in on what happened after I went… MIA?"
Dot nodded and gave him the whole spiel. She tried to edit it down so he wouldn't worry too much, but she could tell by his widening eyes and slacked jaw that it didn’t work. She ended her explanation with, "And now, I guess… King Salazar is dead."
"Jeez," he huffed. "Really? Like, we're really sure?"
"Scratchy checked," Wakko cut in. "He wouldn't lie."
"Okay…" Marin seemed dubious, but accepted it nonetheless. "Then like… now what?"
Dot pursed her lips and glanced over at Wakko. He seemed similarly hesitant to say anything. She turned back to Marin and said, "Well—"
Knock-knock.
All three looked to the door and saw a nurse standing there, the one who had let Dot and Wakko into the room in the first place.
"Hi there,” she greeted with a smile. “Sorry to interrupt, but I’d like to let my patient here know his report.”
“Of course,” said Marin, glancing at Dot and back. “Hit me.”
The nurse entered the room and stopped at the bedside. Her eyes flickered over Dot for a moment, but she didn’t say anything about her position in the bed. She looked down at the clipboard in her hands and began speaking. “Alright, so, as you hopefully know, the reason you’re in here is because of a bullet wound.”
“Yeah,” Marin confirmed.
“Basically what happened is that when the bullet entered your chest, it ricocheted off of your sternum, in between two of your ribs, and punctured your right lung. There was no exit wound. The impact fractured the rib above and below the ricochet point, but did not completely break them from the sternum.” The nurse looked up. “We managed to retrieve the bullet, though it will scar. It shouldn’t be too noticeable unless you’re directly looking for it. Finally, this tube here—” She gestured toward the plastic thing that protruded from Marin’s chest, “—will need to stay in until your lung tissue closes and self-repairs, which means we may need to keep you for up to a few days, depending.”
“I… I see,” Marin said before clearing his throat. He gave Dot a shaky smile. “Hey—at least we’ll match.”
Subconsciously, Dot’s hand drifted to her chest, fingers brushing over her sternum where, under her fur, laid a long, surgical scar. She huffed out a quiet laugh, returning his smile. It wasn’t the cutest thing in the world, but surely there were worse things to do twinsies with than scars.
(Behind them, Wakko quietly frowned and wondered what Marin had meant.)
Marin turned back to the nurse and nodded to her. “Thank you for telling me.”
The nurse smiled and nodded. “Of course. Also—be sure to thank whoever took care of you before you were brought here. They may have very well saved your life.”
Wakko couldn’t help feeling a bit of pride fill him—Nurse had been the one who looked over Marin while everything went on.
“I will,” Marin said.
The nurse nodded.
“Great,” she said before turning to leave. “That’s all I have for you for now, then; we’ll be back in to refill your pain meds in a bit. Oh! And—” Just before she completely left, she turned and made eye contact with Wakko and Dot. “You two are with Yakko as well, yes?”
Both of them tensed, and Dot responded, “Y-Yes! We are!”
“Well, he’s been cleared for visitors now,” the nurse said. “You’re free to head on over to the room across the hall if you’d like to see him.”
Then she left.
Wakko and Dot made eye contact before Wakko jumped off his seat and grabbed onto Dot’s arm. He dragged her off the bed and started leading her towards the door, saying, “C’mon, Dot, let’s go!”
“Wait—!” Dot dug her heels in as they rounded Marin’s bed and grabbed onto the leg of it. She looked toward her found brother with clear hesitance in her eyes, caught between wanting to stay and wanting to go.
Marin smiled and waved her off. “It’s okay, Dot. I’ll still be here when you get back. Go check on your brother, okay?”
Dot hesitated another beat before nodding and releasing the bed leg. Wakko frowned, giving Marin a narrow-eyed stare, before turning away and tugging Dot out of the room.
