Two Tars (1928)
Oliver Hardy with a monkey in “Two Tars” (1928)
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in 1928 silent comedy short “Two Tars”. Oliver Hardy was just so cute when flirting with the girls. But you can almost always find a homoerotic still in every L&H film.
Leap Year--! 1928 Publicity Photos: Comedic actors Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy fool around at the Hal Roach Studios. Their latest film is "Two Tars".
Laurel and Hardy in Two Tars, Big Business, You’re Darn Tootin, Hog Wild, Laughing Gravy, Helpmates, The Music Box, Towed in a Hole and Dirty Work (shorts from 1928-1933) and the feature Blockheads (1938). The first three titles are silent.
The shorts were directed by James Parrott (4), James W Horne (2), Edgar Kennedy, George Marshall, and Lloyd French. Blockheads was directed by John G Blystone. John G. was born in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, and had 109 director credits, from many shorts from 1914, his first feature in 1923 with Lupino Lane (Ida Lupino’s father), to Blockheads, his final credit in 1938. He also co-directed Our Hospitality in 1923 with Buster Keaton.
On Oliver Hardy’s birthday I watched a 35mm short of his and Stan’s in the cinema: Two Tars, 1928. Needless to say, they were charming as ever.
