“I think you’re overreacting. It’s a pack a day at most if I’m not working. I can share if you’d like.”
The Lions den
With his eyes shut, the detective could use his other senses. Which were often more reliable than sight.
The distant sound of screeching.
The smell of bleach.
The feel of cold concrete underneath him, bleeding through his suit trousers.
Odd.
His bound hands patted the floor around him, trying to anything to cut himself free. But instead, his fingers located four groves in the concrete floor. Which was unsettling... However, he couldn’t hear anything or anyone in the room with him.
With an open palm, he slapped the concrete floor, creating an echoing sound that radiated off all the walls. So it was a vast room Solid construction. No open windows. Reinforced. Empty... The smell of bleach and disinfectant wasn’t overpowering so had been recent. Which meant the building wasn’t being used. And the type of concrete flooring wouldn’t be used in a modern day warehouse as it was too coarse.
The screeching in the distance wasn’t human. Too high pitched and almost used as forms of communication... So animal. Apes! So he was in some kind of sanctuary.
Whoever dragged him here - he would have to give them credit for such a dramatic setting.
“Okay - bored now.” Sherlock called out as he sat himself up on his knees, feeling some kind of tape - probably duct tape, strapping his legs together from the calves down. Someone had to be there... Or at least listening.

[to; JM] I’ve acquired something that may be of interest to you. [to; JM] And by may be, I mean will be. [to; JM] Not exactly royalty, but, you’ll like it I promise. Where can I find you?

She stays put, resolute. “Now, I’m looking for a word that rhymes with tease...”

He told her to run. So that’s exactly what she did.
The words rang in her ears as her feet carried her as fast as they could, to wherever they could. She didn’t stop, she didn’t turn, she didn’t think. She just ran. Further and further until she could no longer hear the gunshots and irate Urdu roars. It wasn’t long until he was there beside her, their feet pounding the gravel in a syncopated rhythm. Tears stung her eyes, wetting her cheeks and running over her lips, the bitter saltiness lingering as they continued to run towards God knows where.

She’s been sat staring at him for 37 minutes now, back against the wall and knees pulled to her chest. Not a hint of word has passed between them since they burst through the door of the small hostel on a dimly lit track and on to the dusty stone floor, hearts thudding, the sound their combined heaving breaths filling the sombre room. 38 minutes. Her breath catches in her throat, and suddenly it’s all too overwhelming.
“I deserved what I had coming to me.” The words cut through the silence like a knife. “God knows I did.” Her voice is hoarse, cracking. Somewhat understandable considering the amount of screaming in agony she had done in the past 72 hours. The thought makes her flinch. She doesn’t dwell on it. “So why are you here? You should have left me for dead.”

“I hope you realize breaking into people’s homes is rather rude.”
Irene knew why he had shown up, she’d orchestrated the entire puzzle for him to solve. She’d stumped him a few times given how long it had taken for him to piece it together, and that had probably bugged him. There had been no hint in the puzzle to lead him here that it was her. Rather, she’d dug up an ancient alias of hers, a renowned con artist who had pulled several major heists around the globe. Which was partially true. She had helped, but hadn’t done the legwork herself, a close ally hide.
So she’d used her alias to slink back into the world, although she had been careful to give no clues to her true identity. Now she had an expectant look on her features as she lounged back on the couch and looked at Sherlock with a sly grin on her features.
“Did you have fun with my puzzle for you?”

a pleasure it is to be MATCHED with nearly identical enthusiasm , though nothing less was to be expected. he reaches up , hands going to cradle the familiar face and step forward to press his back into the wall , teeth snatching the other's lower lip and giving it a rather unapologetically harsh tug.
