|| diner at midnight — on my ao3 | 1.5k+ word count
|| tags: first meet, hurt/comfort, minor injuries, implied/referenced child abuse, spoiler alert that’s not what really happened but allison doesn’t know that yet
“You sure you don’t want to come in?” Allison continues to look out the window of her dads suv, shaking her head as her eyes land on a boy sitting inside the diner across the street from the store her dads parked at. The boys alone, stabbing his fork at whatever’s on his plate, there’s nobody else that Allison can see inside the dinner but with the late hour she wouldn’t expect there would be.
“I’m gonna go get a soda at the dinner.” She’s popping the cars door open before her dad can fully question why she doesn’t just buy one in the store.
It’s a short walk across the road and soon enough Argent’s stepping inside the lowly lit diner, the smell of stale breakfast food and lukewarm coffee filling her nose. It’s just now hitting midnight when she glances to the clock hung above the diners bar, she can’t even see a worker in the back as she walks past the window where plates are placed to be served.
“Hi?” The boys head lifts with a quirked brow when Allison reaches his table, sliding herself into the booth seat across from him. His big eyes track up and down her a few times, face a little red presumably because of the pretty girl in front of him. There’s a small gash on his chin, a purple bruise forming on his right and grass stains on his shirt, it makes Argent wonder what he’s really doing here.
“Hi, I’m Allison.” Her lips curl into a smile when the boy stumbles to shake the hand she extends over the table top, his half eaten pancakes quickly ignored as his eyes stare wide at her.
“St- Stiles, I’m Stiles.” A warmth fills Allison’s chest with the nervousness prominent in Stiles’ voice, he’s cute.
“That’s quite a name. So, Stiles, what’re you doing here so late?” The table is a little cold when Allison leans her elbows onto it, checking the cup that looks untouched to see what it is, must be a Coke or Dr Pepper, some dark soda. She nods her head to it and waits for Stiles to nod before lifting the straw to take a sip, Coke, her favorite.
“Uh my- my dad was supposed to meet me but he got caught up in something.” Argent nods along and slinks down into the seat again, soda held in her hand with a small swirl to mix the melted ice in.
“You can’t see your dad during the day?” A small laugh bubbles out of Allison’s chest seeing Stiles’ mouth fall open only to close seconds later. She likes this, small towns always have more genuine people she’s found, after moving around so much it’s clear to her that she prefers this to the city. You can’t talk to strangers in diners at midnight in the city.
“He’s the sheriff and- and there was a possible break in so he couldn’t come.” A sheriff, god even the words are small-town-like.
“But you don’t see him in the day?” Stiles shakes his head but Allison doesn’t know if he even heard her, his eyes are all but lazer focused on her lips as she talks. Honestly they can’t be that interesting to look at, she’s got no makeup on and has been driving all day so she’s in sweats and a hoodie.
“He works a lot, he’s busy during the day so sometimes we get dinner here.” He snaps himself out of his trance after a beat, Allison takes another sip of soda with a hum of acknowledgment.
“What made you come anyways tonight? I mean, since he’s busy with a possible break in.” She can’t imagine there’s much crime going on in this town, she knows her dad has found a job here but as far as normal people crime, there can’t be much Stiles’ dad has to deal with.
“Needed to get out of the house.” A thick swallow follows the words and suddenly there’s a spark of worry in Allison’s chest. Stiles is all bruised up, his dad is the sheriff and bailed on his teenage son who’s sitting at a diner alone at midnight because he needed to get out of his house. She doesn’t like how this looks.
“Did you clean the cuts on your face?” It doesn’t look like he has, she thinks he might’ve just let them crust over and done nothing to tend to them. Stiles reaches to touch the cut on his chin, looking down to the table as he shakes his head.
“Stay here.” She says and doesn’t wait for an answer as she climbs out of the booth and briskly walks to where she saw a first aid kit hanging on the wall when she walked in.
That’s one thing she’s gotten good at, finding first aid kits anywhere she goes, and exit signs, that extra information gets filed away every time she goes somewhere new.
“Uh are you supposed to have that?” Stiles questions when Argent sits herself beside him, moving his plate of cold food out of the way so she can lay the first aid kit out on the table. She ignores the question, clicking the locks open and grabbing a alcohol pad to tear open.
“Hold still.” The redness coating Stiles’ cheeks is undeniable when Allison cups his jaw, tilting his head upward so she has a better angle to wipe at the cuts. He winces with the sting of the alcohol but Allison’s thumb instinctively rubs at his skin in slow circles, soothing him and murmuring that she’s almost done as she grabs some ointment and slathers it onto Stiles’ face before a bandaid. She could’ve cleaned it more in depth and done a better job applying the bandage but it’s enough for nothing to get infected.
“Do you do this with every stranger you meet?” He clears his throat a bit and tries to hide the blush on his cheeks, Allison lets him think she hasn’t noticed it.
“Only ones I like. I just moved here by the way, my dads across the street getting snacks.” He’s probably done by now, but Allison wouldn’t be surprised if he took the time away from her to call her mother and check in on where she is, they took two separate cars so Chris and Allison could leave earlier.
“So you’ll be starting school this week then?” She nods, already knowing that Stiles is thinking about them becoming friends. She is too, he feels comfortable to talk to, none of the expectations city people have.
“Sophomore year, what about you?” Stiles’ face lights up as he gives a quick ‘me too’ before the bell from the door jingles and distracts them both.
Chris walks in, eyeing the diner a moment until he lands on Allison and Stiles. She gives a smile, one that makes her dad drop his shoulders as nothing bad is going on, even if Stiles looks a little terrified. She can’t blame him, Chris has a gun tucked into his waistband that’s showing under his leather jacket.
“This is my dad, dad this is Stiles.” The buzz cut boys head turns between the two a couple times, nodding as he does but not looking all that eased.
“You guys alright?” Chris doesn’t sit down and instead stands by the table, glancing over his shoulder, probably looking for that worker Allison silently has been too. She’s yet to see or hear anyone else in the store.
“Yeah, all good. Stiles was just telling me that his dad’s the sheriff.” Argent sends a look to her father, he picks up on it in seconds, eyeing the bruises and connecting it to what Allison said. She can see the protection light up in Chris’s face, the same way it does her own, it’s one of the many traits she’s gotten from him.
“That so? Is he here?” Both teenagers shake their heads, Stiles finally speaking up with a little less nerves then when Chris first entered.
“There was a possible break in so he couldn’t make it tonight.” His hands fidget a moment under the table, Allison feels her heart strings pull seeing it, she already wants to offer their house full of unpacked boxes for Stiles to stay in. She refrains, she’ll do it later, when it’s not the first night they met.
“Okay well I’ll let you two keep talking, Ali I’ll be in the car talking to your mother if you need me.” She nods, but by the look in her fathers eye she doubts that’s where he’ll actually be, she bets he’ll walk around the building looking for that worker first. Or maybe start running background checks on Stiles’ family, all he needs is a first name to do it so he could. She won’t ask.
“So, are the kids here nice?” The questions she really wants to ask can wait till later, for now she’ll continue to get to know the basics about Stiles, hoping they’ll become close as she doesn’t think she can handle another place where she has no friends. Thankfully Stiles starts to ramble easily, filling Allison in on all the towns drama and about what school should be like when they start next week.
Our rarepair week will be July 10th through July 17th! 8 days total! We have two sets of prompts for your consideration.
Each day has been assigned an 'era' from pre-canon through the 6 seasons and post-canon. The idea is to create content set in that era. It can be a fix-it, an AU, a missing scene, anything.
The second set of prompts are traditional tropes and tags that were suggested or requested. You're welcome to combine the prompts, use just one, mix and match, or even use none! So long as you're creating rarepair content and its tagged appropriately, it'll be shared on this page!

Scott keeps meeting Jackson in different lifetimes. None of those lifetimes ever work out right. They always seem to remain a glimpsing memory to each other every time. A spark that leaves a burn in Scott's heart every, single, time.

Summary: Jordan has been a morning regular at the diner on the edge of town for a while now. There's another regular that always seems to be there too, Derek Hale. A nice gesture leads to a bit more for both of them.
An old prompt (maybe two years old) that I finally knocked out.

Kira is being feisty and difficult to her alpha. It's not that Kira wants to be, but being pregnant has made a lot of things off-limits for her since they should be careful. Lydia just wants her omega to be soft, safe, and happy.
