how to babysit a shrunken non-magical human (a guide written by the students at night raven college)

—AUTHOR'S NOTES.
hello everyone!! this'll be my first series ever (wow exciting) and to be honest i've had this idea for a Very Long Time but i never got around to writing it.. until now !
some more important stuff underneath:
there will not be a romantic relationship between [reader] and any of the twst characters!! this is all purely platonic and/or familial (depending on how you see it). this is NOT ship content!!
there won't be many content or trigger warnings in general aside from canon-typical violence and a few nightmares and anxiety attacks.
i will try to write each character as accurately as possible, but please note that these are only my interpretations of the characters and how they would react to [reader]'s situation.
[reader] will be gender-neutral and they will be referred to with they/them and you/yours pronouns. it is implied that reader is yuu/mc in this series, however alternative interpretations are welcome, and they will only be referred to as [reader] or some variant of that, or their canon names (e.g. herbivore by leona, etc.).
updates will be VERY sporadic!! as i said before, i do have a life and other things to write but i will try to make this my main project for the next while or so.
please do not steal this! inspirations and fanart are welcome, but please be sure to credit me and this work :))
i may cross-post this to other platforms in the near future but until then, please do not post this to other platforms such as quotev, wattpad, etc.
this has been cross-posted to ao3 :))
all chapter banners were made in canva.
i'll be referring to this fic as "nrc babysitting" (because the whole thing is too long) and it'll be referred to as such in the tags (i.e. #mysaseries:nrcbabysitting).
Summary: The reader (that's you! or yuu if you want) is a Blue Mage from the world of Final Fantasy XIV. You can only imagine the chaos that comes with that.
Notes: Hello fellow kids, I'm back making an imagines post after...I don't want to think about it. This will be the first for TWST tho. I know I mentioned I have a FFXIV/TWST idea but this is not it. It's more of a full fledge fic that I'm chipping away at. This post was originally meant to include everyone in the main ensemble but I couldn't think of a proper format, so if you want to see more of this (Vice Housewardens, Staff, First-Years, etc.) please let me know. If you want me to do FFXIV crossover stuff too let me know as well! My inbox is always open for suggestions
Let's see what else...
-written with a platonic relationship in mind, but can be interpreted as pre-relationship if you want!
-GN!Reader, implied WOL but not important
-I’m sorry if some of the entries are lopsided I haven’t written a proper headcanon post in like years plus this is my first contribution to TWST
Blue Mage definition: a Limited Job specializing in harnessing the powers of enemy creatures. While officially classified as a Magical Ranged DPS, it can also adopt the roles of Tank and Healer as well, with over 100 spells to choose from. Its outlandish spellcasting resembles neither black nor white magic. A majority of the spells have an elemental affinity that is essential for Masked Carnivale.
Masked Carnivale definition: a series of solo battle challenges made exclusively for Blue Mages
~~~
Premise:
-After a grueling Masked Carnivale, you somehow made it out alive.
-You were told that you only had to perform three Acts, so why is there a horse carriage barreling towards you from the coliseum gates?!
-After the initial confusion at the ceremony, and even after you helped put out the fire with your basic water magic, the Dark Mirror neither found Eorzea on the map nor could it properly determine which dorm you would be in because of how unusual your magic is.
-So you’re still stuck in janitor duty even though you have magic. Isn’t the Headmage so generous to keep you on campus and not throw you out into the great unknown? You better thank him!
-Fast forward to the blot monster in the mining cave
-Ace, Deuce, and Grim had front row seats to you throwing a sucker punch directly into the monster’s glass head
-You essentially become the talk of the campus after you’re officially enrolled as a student. Honey, you got a big storm coming (/j)
Spells Used: [Water Cannon], [Goblin Punch]
Riddle Rosehearts:
-Pre-overblot I think he would lowkey crash out about how your magic works, saying that there’s no rules to this chaotic sorcery of yours (you try to tell him otherwise, but he wouldn’t listen)
-It wasn’t until after he recovered from his overblot, when he had the downtime to recover, did he finally listen to how your “blue magic” works, how you need to defeat your enemy in combat in order to gain their magic, and how most of the spells have elemental properties that give different advantages depending on the situation.
-After explaining that, you sheepishly explained that despite all that, some spells don’t do much damage at all and can only deal “status effects”. You only told him that because you repeatedly hit his overblot form with a fish. That you shot out of your mouth. And also kinda explains the faint smell of fish when he woke up.
-Oh yeah, and when you wanted to do real damage you threw…candy canes at him. And yet he was stuck with stinky fish.
-But! In your defense, you were trying to keep his attention on you so he didn’t attack his fellow classmates while they were trying to take down the blot monster behind him. You didn’t want to deal out anything more powerful than that in fear you’d accidentally hurt him.
-While Riddle was grateful for your quick thinking, he did reprimand you for putting yourself in danger like that (although there was no real bite behind that, fish smell and all).
-Still, as long as you keep your magic in check and follow the rules, you should be all set as an upstanding student. Otherwise, it’s off with your head.
-Speaking of which, do you obtain the overblotter’s UM afterwards even though they didn’t die? What spell would you have obtained from the blot monster in the mines if that was the case? Much to think about.
Spells Used: [Flying Sardine], [Candy Cane]
Leona Kingscholar:
-The plot of using Ruggie’s UM to target Magilift players from other dorms would’ve been thwarted almost immediately with your magic tbh. Those who were healed report that it felt like a warm and fluffy hug
-Yeah, Leona would not be happy about that at all. If the herbivore wants to play games then so be it. While you’re playing checkers, he’s playing chess type shit.
-Has Ruggie try to steal your cane, not realizing you had a spare umbrella on hand (which you were glad you didn’t get rid of when you cleaned your inventory before All This). Absolutely scared the crap out of the hyena when you magically teleported in front of him right as he thought he lost you guys.
-If Leona wasn’t mad at you, he sure is now.
-When he overblots you’re not too worried about the sand cutting into you. You alternate between casting Mighty Guard when you move and Diamondback when you can’t as you try to maneuver in the storm.
-And how do you get his attention while the others are trying to fight the blot monster? That’s right! Flying fish!
-Post-overblot Leona would probably would lowkey respect you but overall would be indifferent about you. As long as you don’t step on his tail again while he naps, I think you two have a mutual understanding.
-Azul being, well, Azul, he’s very intrigued about your magic since it was somewhat similar to his.
-Absolutely tried to use your magic as collateral when making the deal to get rid of the anemone heads. A variety of spells that only required a little bit of magic AND the opportunity of obtaining more spells without the risk of accumulating blot? You would be crazy not to go for it.
-You had to explain to him that if he still wants to obtain the power of Blue Magic, he’ll need to be ready to take a life if he’s so keen on learning new spells this way. That’s what made him back down…for now.
-If you fail the heist the first time around, he would be nice enough to give you a second chance with your magic as collateral for real. The fact that he’ll give you a second chance makes him so benevolent. It was fool-proof really.
-Imagine his shock after the first day Floyd comes walking in with a face full of cactus needles and Jade covered in ink.
-”Heyyy Azul, did you know Shrimpy can breathe underwater without a potion?” “They WHAT?!”
-Forget the magic, what else were you hiding?? Were you intentionally withholding something from him when he made the contract?? Just who in the Great Seven are you??
Spells Used: [1000 Needles], [Ink Jet]
Kalim Al-Asim:
-Probably the most ecstatic one of the bunch about it, because it’s Kalim we’re talking about.
-Remembers you from when you put out the fire during orientation. Definitely went “Same water magic! :D”
-Would want you to show off your spellbook and explain how you got them.
-Of course you couldn’t show all of it off since it requires certain conditions, like being in active combat, to do so.
-“Hey, what does Self-destruct do?” “Exactly what it says on the tin. Can’t tell you how many times I died trying to obtain it before learning how to properly tank it. I usually use that one for last resorts.” “…” “…” “So what does Final Sting do?” “Same thing, but in bee form.” “Prefect-“
-Genuinely would also be the most concerned one of the bunch too because of the nature of some of the spells (see above). Definitely would make you promise not to hurt yourself so carelessly.
-Definitely thought the Masked Carnivale you mentioned was like a masquerade type party before being corrected. Maybe he’ll throw one anyways so you can show off your Blue Mage gear :D
-Somehow, the state of your gear had made it to the eyes and ears of the Vil Schoenheit. Because of course it did.
-He’s going to drag you into his walk-in closet to find something much better. He doesn’t care if you infused the best Materia, whatever that is, into your gear for the best “stats”. You are NOT going out in that outfit. Just because your magic has the word blue in it doesn’t mean you have to drown yourself in it.
-Something something you can’t cast spells if you ain’t beautiful.
-Somewhere in Eorzea, your mentor felt a disturbance in the aether.
-Speaking of casting spells, probably wouldn’t care much about how you obtain them, but rather the lack of aesthetic that comes with the randomness of your spells. Like, seriously, a sticky toad tongue and mustard gas? If you cast that tongue spell on him, he WILL curse you.
-Even if you’re a walking fashion disaster, at least you take care of your skin. It looks really flawless, almost too flawless.
-The secret? You use a spell that imitates how armadillos draw moisture in the air. It’s supposed to be a healing spell, but mages quickly realized how clean they felt afterwards. Some even forgo showers because it’s easier to just cast a hydration spell instead.
-...Not that you skip showers, obviously. It’s just that Crowley only gives you so much for allowance…and you only get hot water for a good minute or so back in Ramshackle…Ah, you should probably stop rambling. The look Vil’s giving you is making you regret everything. What do you mean you’re worse than the housewarden of Ignihyde???
-Blue Mage? Sounds like a class he plays in the critically acclaimed MMORPG Fantasia Finale XIV-
-But real talk, he would be so curious about your magic system. Casting time? MP? Status effects? No blot accumulation whatsoever? Oh Prefect, he’s going to put you under a microscope (/j)
-Would definitely want to run some tests on your magical aspects to compare and contrast with how spell casting works between worlds.
-If you think being transported to another world will save you from Masked Carnivale, think again. Now imagine if Omega was conducting it. That’s how it feels. Now get into the Virtual Reality Training Room already, Prefect!
-Don’t get me wrong, Idia and Ortho are having a blast getting to put on a superboss gauntlet run through the simulation. They even threw challenges at you for variety. Can’t have you using the freeze cheese all the time now.
-Don’t get them started on the gear. The gear! On the opposite spectrum of Vil, Idia thinks your gear is so cool. Not to mention your cane! Think of all the cosplays you can do with characters that also use canes! What? You can switch it out with an umbrella? A MAGIC UMBRELLA?? The possibilities are endless here, Prefect! But…he probably won’t tell you that juuust yet. Having your homies do cosplay requires, like, a level 35 friendship status first.
-In the meantime…you said you had a spell that can conjur a magic cleaning broom, right? Would you mind summoning one or five? Ortho’s been complaining about the state of Idia’s room, but in his defense, he was too busy locking in on coding the next boss fight for you.
-The concept of “Blue Magic” seems to run similar properties as “Wild Magic” back in Briar Valley. The only difference was, well, you seem to have good control over your magic.
-High key so intrigued that a Child of Man can wield such volatile magic. He has heard horror stories of many a fae who have been destroyed by their own magic by simply sneezing too hard.
-And yet here you are, regaling tales about how many times you had to wait for a bi-pedal catfish to electrocute you in order to get the spell that you needed. The lengths you have to go to acquire some of these spells horrify and fascinate him at the same time.
-Of course, it goes without saying that this kind of arcane art does not leave the wielder unscathed. He sees scars in various stages of healing peeking out of your clothes whenever you met, and he couldn’t help but use the stories you tell as puzzle pieces to your wounds. So far the only thing he’s certain of is the jagged scar poking out of your collarbone coming from a stab or a slash attack carried out by a “tonberry” you had mentioned in passing.
-You did tell him you had to fight gargoyles that came to life. Sadly they didn’t have any cool spells for you to snag.
-Even though you hadn’t been able to expand your spellbook during your stay at NRC, he still can’t help but worry about you. You’re his friend after all.
-Still, if you somehow figure out that you can still expand your spellbook in this world by fighting the local fauna, he will not stop you. If you become overwhelmed in a fight, allow him to…even the playing fields, to put it lightly.
re: non-omegaverse Yuu in an omegaverse!twst and scents
Faux Pas holds the stance that a non-omegaverse Yuu has no scent and cannot smell any scents on the Twst Boys, but body odour and stuff exists, and that’s a Smell.
So, regarding this, for this AU’s purposes Yuu smells weird (normal human-ish smell because they’re not from an omegaverse universe so they don’t smell like a scented candle) and cannot perceive the layer of smell that denotes individuality and emotion in the Twst universe because they have a much less sensitive nose. Also their smell doesn’t seem to vary with emotion. This doesn’t mean they can’t smell the Twst boys at all, though.
Also, scent doesn’t stick to them the same because their skin oils aren’t meant to trap scent like those of Teisted Wonderland.
Because people in this Twisted Wonderland emote and show tells mainly through scent unless they’re actors filming something, they tend to be shit at disguising their facial expressions or interpreting those of others. This means that, along with being forced to develop therapy skills because of the Overblots, means an autistic Prefect could suddenly go from struggling hopelessly to navigate the intricate web of dumb neurotypical social rules to being seen as terrifyingly socially adept within a surprisingly short time because of isekai.
He knew something was off with Vil. From the moment he entered Ramshackle and used his UM on the fucking fridge. But Seven, he wasn't expecting him to do this. Rook was less than a second away from drinking the poisoned apple juice (courtesy of Epel's hometown—which, that was a whole other thing) before Kalim stopped him. He thought the storm was over, that they would forfeit the competition and tell Crowley (maybe get Vil admitted), but of course, Vil instead did the Night Raven College brand of crashing out: Overblotting.
Cater was already positioned toward the back of the group, and even then he was still heavily effect by the poison that was being secreted. He was trying to figure out what to do next when you dropped to your knees, then suddenly he found himself beside you. You collapsed into his arms the second his hands were on you.
Fuck.
Things became a blur after that thought. He gathered you up in his arms, he thought he passed Jamil on his way out, and then he didn't know, he just kept running until what he was chocking on wasn't poison anymore but anxiety until he collapsed himself, barely holding onto you.
You still hadn't regained consciousness, despite the rough ride. He adjusted you so that you were laying as comfortably as you could in the rubble of the stadium (when the fuck did it get destroyed?). He gnawed at his bottom lip subconsciously as his eyes flitted between you and his phone that had no signal. However, on the 15th go-between, something bubbled pass his lips.
"Fuck—are you dead?"
His stomach dropped.
"No. There's no way, don't say that."
He clamped his hands over his mouth.
"We should have said something earlier."
He clenched his jaw with more force than necessary, but the voices kept going.
"We should have handled him earlier."
"Shut up!" Cater clutched his heads as if that would stop the voices that spilled from his lips.
"Why should we shut up when all you've been doing is running your mouth, saying absolutely nothing."
"Yeah, you coulda stop him."
"You coulda helped."
"You coulda did something."
"But you did nothing."
Cater dug his teeth into his bottom lip, digging even harder when it began to bleed. It didn't matter, the voices spoke through the pain, making him aware of every single one of his wrong doings.
He knew he was wrong. He knew he should have done something—to stop being a bystander like he always was, but fuck, how could he stop doing the only thing he knew how to do—
"Cater." his eyes snapped open (when did they close?) at the new and welcomed voice. "We're okay." your hand found its way to his cheek, gently cradling his face.
"We're okay?" his throat was raw and his lip hurt like a bitch, but yeah, "Yeah…we're both okay." his hand joined yours. "We're okay."
It was quite (as quite as it could get when there were people fighting for their lives in the other part of the stadium), the voices of Spilt Card had gone silent. The pounding headache was gone, too. And the throbbing in his lip—
"Are you using your U-M on me?" he gaped down at you. "What the fuck? Stop!"
You gave him that bright smile of yours before removing your hand and sitting up.
"Sure did. That poison may have knocked me out, but it gave me enough juice to heal a few people and be just fine." you stood, dusting yourself off, then presented your hand. "Ready to go help?"
Could he? All he knew how to do was be passive, passive was safe, passive didn't hurt. But…running to you and away with you wasn't passive, so—
"Yeah." he took your hand. "Let's go."
"I opened the chapter expecting the usual and you shot me right in the shot"
And then I plot something out the same day, but it doesn't come out for about 2 months.
:)
Anyway! My first piece on Cater! And I've hurt him! So on brand. So! The voices, those are the other-hims of his Spilt Card. I really love the idea that their UMs are not 100% under control or dominant all the time. So getting as anxious as he did caused his UM to flare up like that.
chapter i. grim and crowley are on top of the list (but what's new these days?)
the great grim has never ever listened to anyone, ever. but potions requires precision, accuracy, carefulness: none of these things that grim possess. and maybe you, my dear [reader] should have thought twice about leaving grim alone to supervise the potion.
“in potions,” crewel began, “everything must be precise. not a millilitre off, not a gram off, else the potion be ruined. potions is all about accuracy, all about exact measurements, so i expect you all to listen,” he cracked his whip on the bench beside him, startling a scarabia first-year student awake. beside you, grim lay on his stomach, stretching and yawning, grunting and glaring up at deuce as he was nudged awake. “you!”
“s-sir!”
“tell me about the drink-me potion.”
“the—the drink-me potion, sir?”
you could see the professor struggling to stay calm.
“right, let's ask a first-year student from heartslabyul. they should be familiar with this potion,” crewel barked, pointing his whip at ace beside you. “trappola! explain to the class what the drink-me potion does.”
“it—uh, it was a potion that’s associated with the queen of hearts legend… not directly, but—”
“get to the point.”
“r-right, um—the drink-me potion made the girl shrink in size, she needed to go through the door to reach the garden…” ace began, “she drank every last drop of it and shrunk to around ten inches after fi—”
“that's enough, thank you, trappola,” crewel cut in again, “and we will be making an alternative of this potion. turn to page 248 of your textbooks and we will be making the potion in the book. the drink-me potion can be very useful today, however the technique is far too advanced for you insolent pups.”
“so when are we making them, sir?” someone in the back called out.
“do not interrupt me!” he barked, “the drink-me potion requires this as prerequisite knowledge. the de-aging potion is also rumoured to be used by the fairest queen, however we all know that she used a transformation spell, and not a potion, and this is not spells class.” he headed back to the table at the front, eying every student. “you have all your ingredients in the cupboard. you'll be working in pairs for this exercise. i expect you all to follow the instructions and every measurement for this exercise—the consequences for you pups are disastrous.”
silence.
“there's so much fruit!” grim stared, reaching for the pie, “who knew potions would be fun!”
“it's not for eating!” deuce scolded, holding him up by the scruff of the neck as he squirmed,
“and obviously, there's tonnes of food. the girl said that it tasted like cherry tart, custard, pineapple, roast turkey, toffee, hot buttered toast, all mixed up.”
“why?”
“how am i supposed to know?!”
“i didn't think it would be this literal,” you muttered, equally in disbelief, “i thought the ingredients would be more…”
“exotic?” grinned deuce, “nah. this is just a basic potion—”
“so you should not mess it up, spade,” crewel spoke suddenly from behind him, the first-year flinching.
“s-sir!”
“[reader],” he spoke to you next, “how much does your beaker currently hold?”
“huh?” you squinted at the beaker, “450mL.”
“and is that enough?”
you turned back to the book, swearing under your breath as crewel moved up the stairs to the next few pairs.
“keep an eye on it, grim,” you said over your shoulder as you hurried down the stairs to the storage cabinet. grim huffed, hopping up onto the desk to observe the book before grabbing the toffee extract, uncorking the bottle and beginning to dump it into the cauldron.
beside him, ace stared.
“dude, the book says not to add that much, what are you doing?!” he hissed, “he spent like twenty minutes at the beginning of class!”
“you actually listened?” he scoffed, continuing to drain the contents and avoiding deuce’s attempts to grab him, “since when?”
“i always listen!” ace argued.
“do you?”
“yeah!”
“dude, at least wait for [reader] to come back with the beaker!”
“why wait?”
“because—”
“grim, i'm back,” you announced, shifting the beakers onto the table and shuffling back into your seat as crewel continued his lecture.
“henchman!” he greeted.
“is it supposed to be this dark...” you muttered, frowning as you leaned over the potion slightly, “crewel's example isn't this dark, grim, what did you do...?”
“it’s also supposed to be light blue at that stage,” muttered deuce, eying the mauve-coloured potion.
“i added the whole bottle!” he stated proudly, puffing up his chest as you glanced over him in slight horror.
“wha—why…”
“because!”
“we tried to stop him, [reader],” ace had the decency to try—keyword being try—to mask his horrified expression with a smidge of sympathy, “just put the blame on grim!”
“wha—don’t do that!”
“[reader] had nothing to do with this!”
“didn’t they? they put me in charge!”
“i—i didn’t…” you tried, turning to hover over the cauldron, frowning slightly as it began to smoke, “hey—hey ace, is it supposed to—”
“why’s it smoking?!”
that’s a no, then.
“w-wait, [reader]—”
“ah?!”
a dark purple cloud exploded from the cauldron, sending you stumbling back into it, coughing, as several students nearby screamed.
“what happened here?” crewel strode to your table in an instant, glowering down at grim who suddenly looked a lot more nervous, “why are you pups making such a ruckus?”
“he added the whole bottle, sir!” deuce announced as grim screeched in indignation, “i—we—ace and i—a-and [reader]—tried to tell him not to, sir.”
the first-years could almost hear a pin drop.
“and where has [reader] gone?”
ace silently pointed to the smoke cloud.
crewel sighed, coughing as he cleared the smoke.
“[reader], hey, you oka—woah.”
“u-um…?”
your uniform was far too large for you now, your coat rippling around your now tiny body—you couldn’t be more than a ruler taller than grim now, glancing up at the now much taller students who were gaping down at you.
ah.
shit.
“what the fuck,” ace breathed.
“class dismissed!” he barked, “and grim! see me in my office. now!”
“but—”
“now!”
“professor, what about [reader]…” deuce asked weakly.
“is that even [reader]…” ace eyed you warily.
“who else would it be, man?”
crewel sighed.
“leave the pup with me. i’ll see what i can do.”
“you actually came…” azul marvelled, “i didn't think you would.”
“the headmaster said it was urgent, ashengrotto,” malleus spoke evenly, “i would have had lilia come in my absence, but he stressed that it must be the housewarden, and he is currently ill.”
“what, the bat eat one of those horrid concoctions of his?” snorted leona.
“actually, kingscholar, he—”
“not interested.”
malleus inhaled.
“to nobody's surprise, idia isn't here,” muttered riddle before malleus could respond, taking a seat beside leona.
“i am here!” came the indignant cry from the ipad.
“you should be here in person! what example are you setting for your dorm—”
“it's just the housewardens,” vil exclaimed tiredly, “what example does he need to set, and for who?”
riddle's face burned bright red as kalim laughed.
“we have an emergency!” crowley cried, bursting through the doors as you hurried behind him, barely keeping up.
“we heard,” leona said flatly, “now get to the point, some of us have things to do.”
“what do you have to do?” riddle frowned.
“none of your business,” leona yawned.
“we have a very big—well, small—emergency,” he announced again, lifting you up under the arms and displaying you as you blinked back at six bewildered expressions.
“you have a kid?” leona frowned, “since when?”
“you kidnapped a child?” vil asked at the same time.
“i do no—kidnap?! my goodness, schoenheit—”
“wait a minute,” leona frowned, leaning forward despite himself, “why does the kid smell like the herbivore?”
“that's [reader]?!”
“how old are you?” malleus asked curiously, watching as you held up five fingers proudly, “i see.” he turned to crowley with a frown. “how does this happen?”
“the first-years were making the de-aging potion,” crowley grimaced, “grim added too much—ah, what was it—toffee extract.”
“of course it was the furball,” muttered leona.
“too much toffee extract shrinks you?” azul muttered to himself.
“clearly,” muttered vil.
“i like your mask!” you gasped, staring up at crowley who stumbled over his words.
“oh,” was all he managed, “thank y—”
“it’s weird and ugly!”
a series of poorly-disguised snickers circled around the table.
“you have a tail!” you gasped, turning to leona who froze in his seat.
“the ipad’s flying!” you continued, turning to idia’s tablet, squirming out of crowley’s grip, “does it have games?”
“i—well—” idia stammered.
“horns!” you gasped, pointing at malleus. you gasped again as he stared blankly back at you.
“are you a dragon?” he opened his mouth to speak. “are dragons real?!”
“well, actually, i—”
“they do look a lot like [reader],” kalim awed, “hey, [reader]! come sit on my lap!”
“okay!”
“k-kalim—” vil stuttered.
“they look a lot like [reader], don’t they?” he laughed as you stumbled into his lap, standing shakily and gripping his shoulders for support, “wow, you’ve got a strong grip, dontcha?”
“mhm!” you beamed down at him.
“i agree that this—” riddle eyed you warily, motioning to you vaguely, “—calls for an emergency, but why are the other students not informed?”
“the only other students aware of this are the ones in their potions class,” crowley spoke, “and i have an idea for you housewardens!”
“this always ends well,” muttered vil.
“i will pretend i did not hear that!” he continued, “although you are all wonderful mages, and wonderful hu—uh, students—you barely have any real world experience!”
“i don’t like where this is going,” muttered idia.
“in the real world, you will have to interact with many individuals, no matter the species, or the—wait for it—the age!” he nodded sagely to himself, “so, the staff and i have come up with the bright idea for you all to babysit [reader] here until crewel finishes the antidote!”
“you’re joking, right?” idia said finally, “is he for real? i mean, look after a baby—”
“[reader] is not a baby,” malleus corrected, “[reader] is now five years old.”
“—okay, man, same thing, they’re a child, how—what the hell are we supposed to even do, lol, none of us have any experience…”
“and that is why you will gain experience with [reader]!” crowley nodded.
“i can’t be the only one seeing fifty different things wrong with this image,” he muttered, “dude, babysitting is one thing, but babysitting [reader] is another.”
“how so?” malleus frowned as idia spluttered, “i am sure there are many books and videos giving advice on this sort of thing.”
“dude, this isn’t something you can just find in a book!”
“isn’t it?” riddle frowned, “how else do parents parent?”
“i don’t think you’re one to talk,” muttered azul.
“what was that, azul?”
“nothing, riddle.”
“ahem!” crowley coughed, “so! here’s how this is going to go. each dorm will spend a week—”
“a week?!”
“—with [reader], looking after them. they’ll accompany you to classes—mostly with the first-years, but they can accompany the other students in the dorm with your permission.”
“where will they stay?” frowned vil.
“that is up to you, but they must stay in your dorms. ramshackle is no place for a child!”
“and what about clubs?” kalim raised his hand.
“also up to you!” he beamed.
a chorus of groans went around the table.
“is this permanent?” malleus interrupted, silencing the table.
“crewel is making an antidote,” he responded, “but it may take some time for him to find the ingredients and make the potion. though, i can’t say this has happened before, so…”
“so there’s a chance of failure,” grunted leona.
“wonderful,” muttered azul.
“any questions?” crowley glanced around.
“i want to find a rope,” muttered idia.
“that’s dark,” vil raised a brow at the tablet.
“right. first—” he plucked you from kalim’s grip (“aw, man”) and handed you to riddle who instantly stiffened, “the lucky first dorm is heartslabyul!”
“hello!”
“hello, [reader],” he muttered stiffly, desperately trying to ignore his fellow housewardens’ snickers, “how are—um—”
“well? what are you waiting for?” crowley raised his cane, tapping it twice on the ground, “head back to whatever you were doing before! riddle, any questions, come and see me or one of the teachers.”
“i’ll keep it in mind,” he sighed, standing as he grabbed his own cane and awkwardly placed you on the ground, “come, [reader]. i’ll show you to the hall of mirrors, and we can head to the heartslabyul dorm from there.”
—AUTHOR'S NOTES.
[reader]'s new regressed age is implied to be approximately five-six.
my room intermittently gets a bunch of spiders in it, which I don’t mind because they get the fly numbers down in here and I dislike flies, plus I’m not scared of them. I call them my roommates (affectionate).
Now, Ramshackle is a crumbling, shitty dorm that probably had the infestation of a lifetime when the Prefect first arrived. However, a non-arachnophobic Prefect may learn to keep some less troublesome predatory bugs around to keep more troublesome bug numbers down, at least until they have the thaumarks to spend on stuff that can get the nests out, spiders being the most prolific. Eventually, it becomes somewhat of an inside joke among Adeuce, Yuu and Grim that the many spiders are simply the other Ramshackle dormmembers.
Naturally, Yuu forgets to mention Ramshackle’s bug population to Jamil when they invite him and Kalim over, leading to Jamil getting the fright of his life when Yuu chirps “Meet my dormmates!” and the flicker of confusion at that remark gives way to unbridled terror as a hundred spiders of varying size descend from the ceiling.
If this Prefect wishes to woo Jamil, they’re going to have A Time of it, especially because some spiders may hide in their clothes and come out when they talk to Jamil.
okay!! so, building on the ‘Yuu from this AU is based on projection because I <3 self-indulgence’ from before,,
one thing I do to friends and foes alike is empty death threats (e.g. If you touch my stuff I will gut you like a fish)
One of the fanfics this AU is based upon, Faux Pas by Lolliepops, people in Omegaverse!TWST rely mainly on scent to tell people’s reactions and emotions, so all their emotions are written all over their faces and they can’t tell what Yuu is feeling at first.
This means, if during Book 3’s plot, Yuu threatens Azul like that while the Tweels aren’t present, Azul has absolutely no idea if they mean it or not. Pair it with the classic Jade-like ‘:)’ and Yuu might accidentally intimidate the hell out of him.
