Re: the Mary Marsh incident, I’m always so curious exactly what Josh was saying at the beginning, about 38 states*, it makes me wonder exactly what kind of thing MM was pushing for. Constitutional amendment regarding religion in some sense?

And also while Josh was technically out of line, A) it’s very quaint that this is what almost gets him fired, and

B), MM directly telling a Jewish man “you don’t believe in any God I pray to” combined with her anti-Semitic remarks later on… mixed with how Josh is a very lax Jew according to Toby… Makes you wonder about how the WH is framed by the right with so many prominent Jewish staffers.

*it took me (a Canadian) several years longer than I should admit to to look up that 38 states is the # required for a constitutional amendment.

josh knew david was sick. they all knew david was sick. toby must've been heartbroken when he shared the news privately. the white house folks knew about the funeral and didn't go because toby's family wanted to keep it small.

this makes me think about andy again, actually. if she's still included in my old headcanon of her attending the funeral with toby (and bringing huck and molly), because she was and is always family to toby's side. or if she didn't attend the funeral either, because of her still working in congress. and i wouldn't deny the possibility of the press having a dark and twisted field day with "Congresswoman attends the funeral of ex-husband's brother."

my favorite running gag (that really shouldve run longer) is that bartlet apparently had a penchant of befriending and inviting random elite athletes to help him win friendly games against his staff

CJ's very first line in take this Sabbath day is literally "don't start with me, Mr. President" walking off Air Force One with Jed and I have never loved their relationship more.

Don't start with me, Mr. President and he's not put off in the slightest, it's not an offense, it's a perfectly okay thing for her to tell this man. Don't start with me. Oh I love them. Like how hilarious it is aside, they really do establish from season one immediately how comfortable Jed and CJ are with each other. The way she can talk to him when other characters often emphasise the rules, unspoken or not, that come with talking to the actual President. Like, Jed's a bit informal with all his staff, obviously, but him and CJ are just so good.

leos expression after jed says "i wasn't supposed to take them both?" in s1 e4 (the back pill scene) is the best single snapshot in the show. i have said this before i think but it's so funny 😭 he is genuinely appalled
