More talking shop questions! What’s a pairing you’d love to explore but haven’t written yet? (Crossovers totally count, if applicable!)
I love crossovers, but I think today's answer is: Ellie Bartlet's kid x either of Andy Wyatt's kids.
As part of this AU, I want to throw into the pot the tension of past Ellie/Andy. They'd had a Thing, the leak brought them closer, and the birth of Ellie's kid has her seeking parenting advice from someone who isn't related, but they drifted apart nonetheless as time went on and Andy's twins were more interested in friends their own age.
Ellie has a son or a daughter. Either way, the No-name Bartlet-Faison teenager goes to school in Maryland, like Huck and Molly. I was specifically thinking of this as a high school or college fic to have the grades match up and to write the romance part. (It would have to be freshman and senior year respectively; Ellie's kid has skipped a grade). They meet, they become real friends, and a crush develops between one twin and this new younger friend.
And with what Andy says — that Huck likes whatever his sister likes. Molly likes girls; Huck likes girls, too. Or, Molly likes boys; Huck likes boys, too. It's a twin thing. This pairing works with each gender, each twin, make it gay or straight! The Bartlet-Faison teenager meets one of the Wyatt-Zieglers. Molly or Huck tells Andy they met a Bartlet, and Andy is like '???'
I've only just come up with this all today, but I would be happy to start a metaphorical detective board to include Andy's actual feelings towards the Bartlets, with the leak and Toby and the presidency in the mix, what the twins know and how they feel about that, etc, etc.
thank you for asking!!!
Talk shop Tuesday question: what’s a WIP that you’re excited about?
ahhh of course! one of the few wips i haven't abandoned is faithfully the butch bartender fic.
a summary for the new people: it's set in Manchester Part I where I decided Lois the bartender is a butch lesbian who is besties with Toby and whom is a fantastic listener. CJ has had an extremely tough month, and she's shutting out Toby, so he basically sends her to talk to Lois instead
I'm still working through the opening when they're at the pool table - the conversation Toby and CJ have after "I know what you're thinking about doing." it's going to be in Toby's perspective of convincing CJ to go speak to Lois and changes to CJ's perspective sitting at the bar counter and talking to Lois about resigning (leaving the country possibly, disappearing off the face of the earth).
i want this to give everyone the sad warm fuzzies! i can picture exactly how this story goes. it might be a very long time before it's finished, because every sentence i type reveals more layers i have to deal with before moving on. so, one word at a time. it's currently sitting at 2k, i really hope it'll end up being 5k.
snippet:
... and while doing so, Toby takes stock of the pool table, counting the remaining balls—six on the blue-green expanse of felt. “It’s, um, still your turn. I think you’re on a scoring streak right now, which is impressive considering you’ve barely followed the rules of the game. You’d give Jean Balukas a run for her money.” “You didn’t make up that name just now, did you?” CJ says, failing to hide the quick flash of amusement in her eyes. “No. No, she’s real. Best pool player to come out of Brooklyn.” “And you’re the second best.” “I’m a few games shy of beating her record.” Instead of setting the chalk aside, Toby offers it to CJ with an outstretched hand, an olive branch in the shape of a tiny cube.

Kumicho watches him for a long moment, takes another long drag of his cigarette. Finally, he reaches out to drape an arm over Satomi’s shoulder, pulling him in closer.
He smells like cologne and cigars—the same kind of cigars Kyouji sometimes likes to smoke. Satomi figures Kyouji had to have picked up the habit from someone.
“Well don’t you look every inch the bereaved young boyfriend,” Kumicho says, which is—well, it’s kinder than some of the things Satomi’s heard over the years, though not from Kumicho. Kyouji’d almost gotten into more than one fight about it before Satomi told him in no uncertain terms that he didn’t care.
Or, Kyouji fakes his death. Satomi attends his funeral.
