Someone please tell me why I can write Sharon in my sleep, like I've known her my whole life, and getting even a few lines out for Dana is damn near impossible. Her voice, mannerisms, and characteristics are no less distinct so what's the damn problem??

I am reeeeeally thinking about it. My reasons for originally wanting to wait until it was all published was become I didn’t want to end up with an unfinished story hanging out there like JTY was for a couple years, and I also didn’t want to run into the issue of having to write down the road to fit what I’ve already published. Like, if I realize something else works better and I’ve already published, I’m stuck, you know? That also happened with JTY. But I was also planning on dedicating 2021 to writing the story but then my MIL almost died of covid and then I went back to school and I just didn’t have the time to get through it. So I’ve been sitting on three chapters for a year, now with the addition of another one, and I think maybe I’m ready to just start publishing. I’m on the fence still but I’m probably pretty easily persuaded at this point. 😉😉

I desperately want to make progress on TWYA. I took a long break after I got stuck on chapter 4 and hoped that this recent inkling to delve back in would bring some clarity but it hasn’t. I don’t know what I’m stuck on but I just can’t break through it. I can’t get into Lena’s head enough while trying to keep in mind what I wrote in JTY. I’m probably overthinking, which is always a problem for me, but it feels like there’s something more than that and I don’t know exactly what it is. Maybe a re-read of JTY would help? Like, reading it with extra attention to Lena, what she’s doing and what I intended for her motivations while writing from Stef’s pov? IDK but I’m annoyed that I’m so stuck because I really wanted to make some progress while it’s been on my mind.

I’m doing well at finishing a chapter a month, which is my goal with this fic. But losing a couple days in February means I have to kick it into gear now. I’ve written more than 2,000 words but I’m probably only half way done with the chapter at this point. Hopefully the last half doesn’t cause me too much trouble and I can knock it out in the next week.

Oh I'll 100% ask. Tell me more tell me more tell me anything you want to share about the new fic

Aaaah! Okay! Thank you!! So the fic I’m writing is called To Where You Are and it’s Lena’s perspective of Journey to You. When I first started JTY I really saw it as Stef’s story but as I went along, I realized there were times I wished I could give Lena’s perspective, too. Then, when I came back to it after my hiatus, my beta (who was not my beta for the first half) kept saying how she wished she could know how Lena was feeling/thinking/etc. as she would edit. It kept making me regret not including her POV and as we got close to the end, I decided I wanted to write it from Lena’s, too. So that’s where we are.

I am also using it as an opportunity to make some minor adjustments to some moments in JTY that I would have liked to change slightly. Nothing major, but there will be some small differences in the details of things. It isn’t going to be only the scenes from JTY - it’s Lena’s full side so there will be everything going on in her life at the time that is relevant. There will be new scenes between her and Stef because one thing I regret about JTY is that I didn’t give enough of their relationship evolving. And maybe for Stef we saw what was most important. But for Lena, I think it’s necessary to see more of the moments that lead to her falling in love because she was more aware of herself than Stef was. Basically, JTY gave us the moments that most significantly led Stef to Lena and TWYA will be the ones that are most important to Lena’s journey to Stef.

Oh! And Lena has friends! Good, healthy, unproblematic friends!! Because she deserves them!

250 words in 45 minutes isn’t bad. I’ll take it! This chapter is definitely revealing a new thematic view and it might be coming on a little strong but I can always reel it in later if necessary. For now we’re going with it.
