Kisses shared under an umbrella, for Wynn, please - from, Foxesandmagic
The water-warped planks of wood bent and creaked beneath Wynn’s rapid descent, the glowing neons of the diner illuminating her retreating back. Hands shoved into her jacket pockets, she blew out a long, relieved breath. She loved working at the diner, side by side with Pop, but sometimes a black stain smeared the golden haze of that affection. Tonight it was due to a particular rowdy group of people passing through to the next city. They didn’t know the rules.
Gravel crunched beneath her shoes in her beeline for the bike rack. Halfway there a cool wetness splashed against her head. The splash quickly became a series of taps and that particular earthy scent—sharp and heavy all at once—brushed by her nose.
Her shoulders sagged in time with her exhaled frustration. Even if she biked home fast enough her hair would be ruined. Another night of taming her curls lay ahead of her. Just what she wanted after a long day.
“Hey.” The greeting appeared in time with the sudden suspension of raindrops. Wynn immediately tightened her arm to her side when Toni looped arms with her, pulling Toni in closer. She smelled good. A vast and welcomed change to the fryer fumes she’d been inhaling all night.
“You didn’t have to wait for me,” Wynn said. Her smile glowed an eerie pink from the signage nearby.
“I wanted to,” Toni replied. “As much as I love watching you hustling around in that cute uniform of yours”—she made a show of letting her eyes roam Wynn from head to toe—”at least now I can talk to you.”
“Yeah, sorry about that. Busy night.”
“Hey, I can’t be mad about my girl trying to get her money.” Toni squeezed her arm; electricity shot to Wynn’s core. “Can I walk you home?”
Wynn eyed her. “...You just want my momma’s hot chocolate.”
“And to spend time with you, dummy.” Toni briefly pressed the side of her head against Wynn’s arm. “School hours just aren’t enough.”
“No, it’s not.” Wynn stopped walking and leaned forward, quickly capturing Toni’s lips in a kiss. “Thanks for being cool with it though.”
“I told you, I have nothing against my girl trying to make her moves.” She leaned forward and brushed her nose against Wynn’s. “As long as I’m right there next to you.” She lifted on her tiptoes and tapped a kiss to Wynn’s lips.
“There’s nowhere else I’d want you.”
Humming, Toni’s eyes turned upwards. “Maybe under you?”
