How cinematography and production design was used in The X-Files to show the audience what the script/dialogue never explicitly revealed regarding Scully's pregnancy/conception:

ALL THINGS (S07E17) Scully stands in front of the mirror and gets dressed in Mulder's bathroom wearing a green sweater. As she exits his bathroom back to the bedroom where Mulder remains sleeping in bed, the camera pans down to reveal a dripping tap. WITHIN (S08E01) Scully enters her bathroom during a bout of morning sickness. As she bends over the toilet, the camera pans down to reveal a dripping tap. She stands in front of the mirror and washes her mouth and face with a green washcloth.

As much as I think in 7x17 they rather glossed over the creep factor of this dude having a relationship with his 20ish student when he was 40 at the youngest, I do kinda love this messiness of being drawn to powerful men as a character flaw for Scully. It's the kinda of story that I feel like people would nowadays be wary of giving a #girlboss character like her, but that makes it feel more real and human somehow.

I feel like a lot of 'character flaws' these days are just 'I'm haunted by my lover’s death and I've killed 10 people' and idk I'm tired of that. I want messy, I want toxic, I want human.
