i think the little prince as an intertextual ref is such a great access point to understanding the sort of thematic throughline you can trace through all of tubatu's releases. it's just so perfect.

i love nothing more than an abstract, emotion-driven narrative and this trailer rlly encapsulates for me what tubatu have managed to create and maintain for so long.

tubatu are always super self-referential and have v consist motifs/themes which i Adore they're so special to me.

The Bull's Path

Confused as to what's going on in Bull/Alessandra's plot in War for Rayuba, and when certain events take place in the overall timeline? Don't worry, I've got you covered!

10 years before the War

Stranded: The thief Alessandra is hit by a shard of the shattered King's Gate of her home world of Fiore, flinging her across the multiverse to a foreign world where she meets travelling circus artists Oblivia Nyx and Mamuthon. Desperate to return home to her beloved Tanya, she discovers the shard has imbue her with the power to teleport to the location of her trophy hook.

At the beginning of the War

Untitled Intro: Bull arrives on Rayuba and finds that the Pyre faction offers good payment for ne'er-do-wells like herself.

Unlikely Allies: The decommissioner Bronwyn, a witch who sends the souls of broken tools to the world beyond, encounters Bull on an "errand run" for Pyre - which as it turns out involves getting sidetracked by abandoned treasure.

Round I - La Malandrina

Untitled Comic by Miss/Rice: Tasked with securing safe passage through Pyre controlled territory, the sword maiden Sabi faces Bull in single combat. Thoroughly outmatched, Bull watches as Sabi cleaves a building in twain and decides to take a bribe in order to save her hide.

A Whole Lata Baggage: Taking a break from getting knocked down a peg, Bull encounters the peculiar Lata, a woman equally plagued by both self-loathing and a condition that transmutes her human flesh into plant fiber, bark, and leaf. They exchange grievances, and perhaps more.

Round II - Le Partigiane

Le Partigiane (collaborative comic with Malkshake/Anna): Bull is once again on a job for her Pyre contacts, this time sent out to fetch an advanced tech Power Core from the abandoned factory district to the Northeast of Yaru-Aman. Here she butts heads with the nuclear warlock Teodora Roadside, resulting in an involuntary haircut and lots of property damage. When the two adversaries discover a hidden stash of Power Cores, they agree to part ways on amicable terms.

Round III - La Prugna e La Bestia

In Your Eyes by astr0dile: Bull hitches a ride on a train and runs into Lata again, currently undercover as a Pyre ensign. She whisks her away to a trip across Lata's hometown of Yaru Aman, where another fit of Lata's condition causes the cursed woman to shed her human skin and emerge changed into a wandering tree. Shaken to her core, Bull bails.

Become More than (Y)Our Heart(h)s: Back home, Bull's wife Tanya urges her to return to Rayuba despite everything that has happened, to save Lata from herself. The scheming Tree of Kebby-Ya offers its assistance, to help her be more than just Bull, the liar and the thief.

In the Fog of Doubt: ... but is that really what happened? The nightmarish fog exuded by the sleeping vampire Akeldama can play such tricks on the mind of the Guilty... (read this after the events of Round V)

Round IV - Chiaroscuro

A Sordid World: Alessandra returns to Rayuba a changed woman, having shed the name of "Bull". With the aid of the Sour Fruit of Kebby-Ya, her wounds no longer hinder her and her mood has become volatile.

Frogzilla by HawthorneVisual: While out on an errand with the young knight Phantom Skate, Alessandra accidentally angers a humongous fire-breathing toad. Only through the quick wits of the beast-taming Leviator Waya Luu do the two manage to escape unscathed.

Chiaroscuro: Cleaving a path of wanton destruction and plundering through the Southwestern Emerald Hills, Alessandra crosses paths with the warrior monk Moy, resulting in a fight over the last remnant of Moy's order - a sphere made of pure jade. Moy seems to gain the upper hand by dismembering the thief, but fueled by the juice of the Sour Fruit, Alessandra comes back swinging and trades the Jade Sphere for an in with the Bastion military to find Lata.

Round V - I Martiri

The Blade Itself by Proletarii/TheRebelSpy: The mute knight Beshker, former bard and now sword-arm of the devil Harken, sets out to acquire a blade that will let him cut a new path - elsewhere, Alessandra has been collecting broken remains of devil masks at his behest.

I Santi: The best lead to Lata's whereabouts turns out to be a squad of Ashton Voluntary Regiment mercenaries sent out to find and return rogue agents of Bastion. Alessandra goes to ride with them, but doubt soon sets in as she gets to know the three.

I Martiri: Things reach a boiling point as Alessandra and the "Saints" search for a runaway Bastion agent who turns out not to be Lata at all, but a monstrous Oblivia Nyx, plagued by cannibalistic hunger. The weight of her guilt crashes down upon her as she abandons her foolish search for the tree-woman and reunites with Oblivia.

Round VI - Le Sorelle

Final Words by HawthornVisual: Using her Warp power, Alessandra creates a portal to allow the beast-tamer Waya Luu to leave Rayuba. She herself however, has her own demons to battle before she can allow herself to.

Sull'Orlo Della Rovina: Alessandra almost cracks under the pressure of going cold turkey, but manages to escape a terrible fate with the help of Oblivia and Mamuthon. She realizes that she's overstayed her welcome on Rayuba.

Aftermath

Live by the Sword with MithrylDraws: At the end of her life, Alessandra is visited by a specter from her past, the travelling executioner Enzo da Bastille. As per their agreement in days past, he has come to take her head.
