ANOTHER RANT BECAUSE DOOMED SIBLINGS AND BANNERFALL HAVE MY BRAIN

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR NOMINALGRAVY AND KATIE LORE!!!!!!!!!!!

(any quotes may not be exact as they are just what I wrote down when I was listening to the lovely lore :D)

Nom and Katie literal opposites but also the same. They are two sides of the same coin. Nom broke his oath but kept his morals and Katie kept her oath but lost her morals. I feel that really sums them up as knights and as characters.

“our family relationship, our dynamic has been me giving absolutely everything to you. Every blood sweat and tears I have has been for you to grow up to be who you want to be. And every time you have ran away and not shown you care” - Nom

This quote basically sums up Nom’s life. He has lived his whole life with the sole purpose of protecting his little sister because he promised too. It was his first promise and one that he will not break till the day he dies. But he doesn’t feel like Katie has shown she cares, she says she does but she hasn’t shown it. Now we know Katie does care obviously but the fact Nom is upset she hasn’t shown she cares is because he is not good with words and emotional talks bit he shows he cares through actions. He has done this before with the whole running dungeon by himself to show he is sorry to Scott.

Nom knows how to show through actions how he feels. It what he was taught to do, he grew up training to be a knight which is literally all about showing you care about your Kingdom and its people by fighting and protecting, so he does that. He protects Katie and looks out for her to show her he cares but he doesn’t see Katie doing that so he is upset.

Whereas Katie is better at the conversations and talking. She grew up training to be a knight but not in the same way Nom did. Katie has shown before that she will speak about her problems and she will show she cares by telling them. So when Nom is trying to show trough actions that he cares, Katie doesn’t see it well. Katie wants Nom to speak to her but Nom wants Katie to show him that she cares.

That is why Nom kept saying to Katie that she has never shown that she cares because she hasn’t, not in the same way Nom has anyway.

Katie also didn’t grow up with the whole ‘protect’ thing in mind. Katie grew up in her brother’s shadow, through no fault of his own, and she probably never thought about having to protect Nom properly because he always tried to be ‘the big, strong and fearless knight and big brother’. While Nom’s main focus was protecting Katie by any means possible, Katie’s main focus was being her own person and making someone of herself without being overshadowed by her brother.

Nom never really wanted to be a knight, he wanted to be a sailor or something, but he became a knight to protect Katie. He stayed a knight to protect that little spark he had left when Katie left, and he stopped wanting to be a knight when he realised he couldn’t keep his morality if he stayed as a knight, even if he broke his oath doing so.

Katie became a knight to be better than her brother. She wanted to prove that she was just as good as he was, prove all the people (though they are dead now) that she can be as good as her brother and prove that to herself. Katie stayed as a knight even when she had to go against her morals but she kept her oath.

Katie hasn’t been in a war, not fought in one at least and that is good but it also means she views what is currently happening so different than Nom. Nom has fought in wars before, fought in the same war that is still going on. He has slain many of Red’s soldiers and knows how bad war is and what can happen in the midst of a battle. Katie is naive to this in a sense because she just hasn’t been in the middle of one, sure she has seen wars and stuff but that is not the same. They have both seen the Kingdom’s at a sort of peace and how quickly it can change to war again, Nom has done this countless times before but this is Katie’s first proper war she will fight in and because of this she is hopeful that there could be peace this time. The Kingdoms could come to an agreement of peace but Nom doesn’t have that thought because he is a soldier. He was made into a weapon to be used in the war, he has come to terms (ish) with there being a war right around the corner.

Nom is a weapon of war that only knows fighting and protection. Katie hasn’t had to fight in a war before so she doesn’t know how to be prepared or how it feels to be there, in the middle of it, fighting and killing and hurting and protecting. And that is not her fault it is just the difference between them unfortunately.

Nom has known his whole life that there is one line he won’t cross, and that is hurting Katie. “You will be the death of me in that situation Katie”. Talking about if Katie and Nom fought in a battle.

“If I was forced to choose [between saving 4C or Katie]… If I could only save one then I guess it’s just another broken thing in the pile”.

“I won’t hurt you and if that ends up being the death of me? So be it.”

“If that fight happens, you will be the reason I don’t make it out.”

All these quotes, prove that Nom will stop at literally nothing to make sure Katie is safe. He has threatened to kill Frogue because of the whole Prince thing and has hinted (to Katie) about Red not being there anymore. He will do anything and everything, including choosing Katie’s life over 4C’s and giving his life for her.

We see the opposite (kind of) in Katie. She cannot pick between Kitty and Nom. She does not want to hurt Nom or kill him but she has not/cannot say that if it came down to it she would save Nom over anyone else.

“I don’t want to hurt you but-….[Nom says smth]…. but I’m scared that the fact that I still care for you will get everyone else I love killed.”

This quote shows that she absolutely does not want to hurt Nom, but she doesn’t want to see anyone else she loves get hurt. She doesn’t think she would hae to choose, she says she will stay away from him on the battlefield and thinks that they won’t have to fight or get hurt. She is in denial a little about the war and what would come with it. Whereas Nom knows that when the war comes, even if they do not fight immediately, eventually they will and he knows what he would do but Katie refuses to accept that it could happen.

The both feel like they are giving everything but Katie is giving everytging to everyone she loves. She is trying so hard to be a good sister, friend and knight of Red. On the other hand, Nom is giving everything to Katie, to protecting her. The are so similar but so so different at the same time it is insane.

Katie regrets not breaking her oath and Nom does not regret breaking his oath. Katie regrets hers because it went against her morals and she betrayed her best friends all while killing a literal child for her corrupt monarch. She regrets not breaking her oath. Nom however, doesn’t regret it because he kept his morality and he saved an innocent life who went on to become a brother of his. He has stated before that he regrets nothing from that day even though he slaughtered 15 knights from his own Kingdom that he probably knew and talked to. He doesn’t regret breaking his oath, he just regrets making his oath in the way that he did.

Katie had a choice in breaking her oath. She made the decision to follow through with the orders and killed an innocent child and she regrets it. Nom didn’t have a choice, for him it was life or death. He raised his concerns about killing an innocent person and the knights fought him, either he fought back and killed them all or he would die aswell as 4C. He chose to live, he chose to save himself and 4C and he does not regret it.

Both of them have faced a lot of judgement about the fact that they haven’t turned on the other. Katie shyes away more when asked anout fighting Nom, she tries to change the subject or not talk about it. She has never really given a real answer about what she would do because she doesn’t know. Her hope is that theybeill not have to fight or anything. When Nom is asked about fighting Katie, he will say straight up he will not fight her and will let no one else fight her either. He doesn’t care if they judge him or threaten him, he only cares about protecting Katie, that is his main priority.

I am not prepared for this… Today was so good though, Nom and Katie’s acting was phenomenal, go watch it if you haven’t already!!!

I’m so excited to see how Bannerfall will end and how the stories develop from here :)

I am so not prepared for the end though, this SMP has introduced me to so many cool creators and I have met some very cool chatters. I fear I will genuinely cry so hard when it ends :((
