I recognize Mainspring's changeling design. (I think.) Isn't that Tyan/Tyana?
Yep.
I'll give the basic gist of mainspring's story, how be became a changeling. But a lot of details are sadly lost so it might not make as much sense as it was supposed to.
He has always felt a lack of love and empathy, but his boundless curiosity and need for control made him start experimenting on finding ways to feel emotions. He developed a small creature that could give the faintest feelings of love to others, but it only encouraged these feelings to feed on it.
He continues trying to develop this creature, and creates changelings. They feed on love more aggressively so at least he's found a way to pinpoint the emotion.
Then he makes a strain that's contagious, still not mastering how to get it to work properly.
The most dangerous strain mutates over time, one that acts as a parasite that devours the pony's love and their insides as it eventually pops off their head, with their memories and personality still barely in tact. This is a strain that is around at the end of time.
These are then used as the Toclofane by Banana who can control them with the queen's pheromone he developed
Then as Missy he makes it so the dead can be converted into changelings as a 'gift' to the Doctor (Anything Cybermen is basically changelings here)
And finally he develops a strain that turns him into a changeling Queen, able to control ALL strains of changeling and able to feel empathy and love by the ability to taste emotions. Tyan/a tries to fix what they've damaged with changelings, and tries to be a genuinely good pony.

ok i need to get this out because I just remembered something-
my VERY FIRST FANDOM:
minecraft daycare. omg.
that series RAISED ME. i remember every week or something a new episode would drop and i'd watch it RELIGIOUSLY. the tina-goldy-ryan love triangle was literal gold and id make sure to watch all of the romantic episodes. I shipped ryan and goldy (just their characters I swear I didn't even watch anything else on their channels lmao) for a while but then that quickly turned to goldy and unicorn and id watch every romance episode thinking "this is the one where they get together" AND THEY NEVER DID- (at least while I watched it) if I knew that the internet existed and I could get sweet sweet fan content I'm pretty sure I would have died. just spontaneously combusted on the spot. Then. Then that turned into the one where unicorn is a superhero who eats ramen I think (what was that one called-) and the one where it's just dnd but in Minecraft and the one where Ryan had fire powers and then the steve saga-
My Minecraft rp phase pretty much ended with the steve saga (I grew out of it by the time rainbow quest came out. There is just TOO MUCH STEVE SAGA WHEN WILL IT END-)
Anyways thats my rant
