Tyronn Lue keeps the Clippers clicking

The Los Angeles Clippers have one of the most talented rosters in all of basketball. Four future Hall of Famers combined with excellent role players and depth make Los Angeles a super team. That being said, we have seen time and time again in the NBA that these teams often fail. When the Clippers beat the Suns 138-111, it was a reminder of how hard it is to make a roster full of stars work. Phoenix is 19-18 and would be a play-in team if the season ended today after being the talk of the NBA this offseason.

You have to win pretty games, and you have to win nasty games. They struggled for a short stretch in November after trading for James Harden, dropping six games in a row after acquiring the veteran guard. Lue preached patience, insisting that integrating a player of Harden’s caliber takes time. After the losing streak, they have gone on to win 20 of their next 26 games. Harden and Russell Westbrook, whom the Lakers cast away, had been labeled players who did not fit well into a system in the later stages of their All-Star careers. Now, on the Clippers, they have found their role and are flourishing. Lue has integrated these pieces to perfection, proving he is a star in his own right. People often overlook that Ty Lue is a championship coach, winning the 2016 NBA Finals with Cleveland. Anytime LeBron James gets a title, the head coach is often an afterthought and is written off as in the right place at the right time. Lue has never won the NBA Coach of the Year Award, but he could be well on his way to claiming that title this year, although another NBA title is most certainly what he is after.
