something’s gotta give - tylum (part 4)
“I’m dying to live, something’s gotta give” - calum and tyler meet at an all time low gig and its basically love (or at least “i wanna bang you”) at first sight. things get a little complicated though due to calum’s very famous and also very female ex…
(part 1) (part 2) (part 3)
Calum's eyes scanned the room as he took another gulp of his drink, his hand drumming a rhythm on the table in front of him.
'Dude it's fine, he said he'd come back!' Michael said, his hands cupped around Calum's ear so the other boy would hear him over the loud music playing. 'Just go and dance for a while he'll be here soon.'
Reluctantly Calum got up, finishing the rest of his drink in one gulp as he did so. He walked over to the centre of the room which was filled with dancing bodies. A girl caught his eye with skin as dark as the night sky outside and curls that bounced on her shoulders as she turned to look at him. He placed his hands on her hips and pulled her to him, but the only thing he felt as they danced was the silk of her dress against his skin. Her arms wound around his neck and he pulled her even closer, desperate to feel something that would prove all of his feelings for Tyler wrong.
'Excuse me? He's taken.' Calum heard a voice behind him and whipped around, the girls arms falling back down to her sides. She shrugged in response, turning back around and lost once more in the crowd. 'Really couldn't wait for me to come back?' Tyler chuckled as he stepped closer to Calum.
'Needed a distraction.' Calum said, his heart beating fast in his chest as the other boy moved even closer to him again.
'I thought I was your distraction.' Tyler smirked, his hands resting on Calum's hips and closing the last space between them.
'Ty, we're literally in a club full of people. Anyone could see us.' Calum groaned, his bottom lip caught between his teeth.
'Okay well let's go somewhere they can't see us then.' Tyler said, his hands dropping from Calum's waist to take his hand instead. Calum was surprised at the shorter boys strength as he tugged him through the sea of people filling the room.

'So are you ready for Dam?' Michael asked excitedly, glancing over at Calum.
'Michael I haven't even sat down yet.' Calum chuckled as they walked down the aisle of the plane.
'Just remembered you liked Amsterdam last time is all.' Michael grinned as they found their seats.
'Yeah it should be a good show.' Luke says, raising his eyebrows with a grin of his own.
'Okay you guys are definitely being weird.' Calum said slowly as he narrowed his eyes at the other two.
'Who's being weird?' Ashton asked as he took the last seat next to them.
'Mike and Luke are.' Calum said as the other two quickly looked away and busied themselves with plugging in ear phones and pulling out laptops.
'Seem fine to me, well as fine as they usually are.' Ashton chuckled as he watched a squabble over the arm rest break out between them.
'Huh, I guess.' Calum said, still slightly suspicious his band mates had some sort of prank planned for him. He put in his own headphones and settled down in his seat, opening the notebook he always carried in the hope some new lyrics might come to him during the flight.
'Anyone in particular you're writing about?' Ashton nudged him gently as he saw Calum's pen start to flow across the page.
'Maybe.' Calum said simply, unable to keep corners of his lips turning up as he saw Ashton smile back at him.
'I'm glad.' Ashton replied, leaving Calum to his writing.
~
The plane soon started to make its descent and Calum decided to put down his notebook and see if he could catch a glimpse of Amsterdam beneath them.
'Move your fat head Hemmings I'm trying to see.' Calum grumbled as he craned his neck to look out the window.
'Sorry what was that? Did you wanna see out the window Cal?' Luke asked as he bobbed and ducked his head in front of the window, succeeding in completely obscuring Calum's view.
'Suck a dick Luke.' Cal sighed as he leaned back in his seat and Luke laughed.
'I mean, it's right here if you're gonna...' Michael said with a raise of his eyebrows.
'Excuse me could you fasten your seat belts please?' The air-hostess said as she arrived at exactly the wrong moment to witness Michael still motioning to his lap with raised eyebrows and Luke and Ashton in fits of giggles.
'Ready for landing.' Michael grinned as he quickly moved his hands away from his crotch and to his seat belt buckle instead. Even Calum couldn't help giggle at the double thumbs up he gave her as she walked away.
Soon the four boys were trudging off the plane, pulling sunglasses over their eyes in an effort to dull the glaring flashes from the cameras that surrounded them. Calum attempted to put a smile on his face as he posed quickly for a few selfies before they were all shepherded away by their security.
'Dude dutch is the weirdest looking language.' Ashton said as he squinted down at several handmade signs and cards that fans had thrust into his fans.
'The girls are pretty hot though.' Luke pointed out as he cast a last look back at the sea of leggy blondes still waving after them.
'What about she who cannot be named?' Michael snorted as Luke gave him a punch on the arm. Needless to say Luke was not a big fan of the nickname for his kind-of-girlfriend but then again the others weren't really a fan of her.
'We're not dating at the moment I told you.' Luke grumbled as they all piled into a car to take them to their hotel.
'It's kinda hard to keep up with to be fair, if we could have a schedule for your next couple of break ups that'd be great.' Calum smiled sweetly while Michael laughed along with him.
'You know I could just tell him Mikey.' Luke suddenly said as Michael abruptly stopped laughing.
'Tell me what? See I knew you guys had something planned for me!' Calum exclaimed. 'I swear to god if it's another male stripper sent to my hotel room I will end all of you.'
'Shut up Luke, and no strippers Calum don't worry.' Michael reassured him, casting another glare at Luke.
'Alright band hug, there's too much tension in this van.' Ashton announced after a few minutes of silence.
'Ashton we're all strapped into separate seats how is this gonna-?' Calum began to ask before the older boy lunged across the space to wrap his arms around him.
'You're turn Michael.' Ashton mumbled into Calum's shoulder as Michael leaned over in his seat as well with a chuckle. 'Alright grumpy now you as well.' he said, craning round to face Luke. 'You know you want to.' the smile tugging at Luke's lips suddenly appeared as he too leaned over to throw himself into the hug.
'As lovely as this is, three lanky pricks leaning on my chest is making it kind of hard to breathe right now.' Calum said, slightly muffled as Luke's head was pressed against his own and Ashton's shoulder was in his mouth.
'Some people would kill to be hugged by us jheeze, be grateful.' Michael laughed but they soon all pulled back to sit in their own seats.
'So anyway what's the plan for after the show tonight?' Calum asked.
'I guess you'll just have to wait and see.' Michael said with a grin, turning to share a glance with the other two.
'Seriously, if it is a stripper-' Calum warned but the others just laughed and Calum was forced to lean back and wait out the rest of the ride mulling over the possibilities. One hopeful thought about a certain dark eyed boy flashed across his mind once but he did his best to ignore it. That certain boy was almost definitely not thinking about him.
~
(13:26) T-Pose: i cant stop thinking about tonight, go over the plan w/ me 1 more time lol?
Tyler was sitting on the balcony of his hotel room in Amsterdam, watching the people pass below him and wondering if tomorrow he and Calum would be cycling past on the bikes that seemed to fill the city, or wandering hand in hand like the countless happy couples, or sitting at one of the many outdoor cafes sharing a coffee.
(13:27) Mikey 5sauce: stop panicking it's fine hahaha, you're gonna arrive backstage a little bit after we come on and then stay there to watch the show. then just before we're done you go back to the changing room to wait for us and then yay everyones happy and you two can finally kiss
(13:27) T-Pose: and you're sure he'll be happy to see me?
(13:27) Mikey 5sauce: as calum's best friend since we were like nine trust me on this, he really likes you
(13:28) T-Pose: alright man i'll take ur word for it, see u later!!
Tyler couldn't help but add a few exclamation marks to the end of his text, a smile spreading across his face as he read and re-read those last four words from Michael. ~
'THANK YOU AMSTERDAM YOU WERE AMAZING!' Michael screamed into the mic as the stadium filled with the sounds of fans screaming back at him.
They'd gone through their encore but lingered onstage for a final bow, not quite ready to come down from the high of performing. Running off stage they shared claps on the back and tired laughter and warm bottles of beer as they made their way to the dressing room. Calum was the last through the door, tugging off his sweaty shirt as a reflex and tossing it on to a sofa. A sofa that Tyler was sitting on.
'Tyler?' Calum asked in disbelief as the other boy stood up, a smile nearly splitting his face in two.
'Surprise?' Tyler laughed, wrapping his arms around Calum as he took a step towards him. He tried to ignore the fact that Calum's bare chest was pressed against him seeing as Luke, Ashton and Michael were all watching. And also cheering.
'Michael is this what all the bullshit on the plane was about?' Calum asked as he pulled away from Tyler.
'Just call me the greatest friend ever.' Michael shrugged, although Calum could tell his best friend was ecstatic with how well his plan had turned out.
'You are the greatest friend ever and,' Calum said as he slung an arm around Tyler's shoulder and started for the dressing room door. 'I owe you a drink or six. Wanna go find a club?'
'I mean as much as Tyler is clearly enjoying this whole shirtless look Calum, I don't think the bouncers would approve.' Luke interjected with a chuckle.
Calum paused with his hand on the door handle and looked down at himself. 'Probably a good point.' he conceded, grabbing his shirt back from the sofa.
'Okay everyone fully dressed then?' Ashton checked as they all prepared to pile into a car to take them into the city. 'Don't want any nude pictures of the band surfacing do we, oh wait a minute.' he said with a laugh. 'Someone already did that for us.' he finished, turning to Calum.
'Oh come on all of us have nude pictures out there, what about Mikey singing The Only Reason?' Calum exclaimed, but he was laughing through his indignation.
'That is a tasteful shot!' Michael replied. 'I'm pretty sure mine didn't have a winky face on anyway.'
'For what it's worth, I think the winky face adds charm.' Tyler interjected as they all got into the car.
Calum caught Tyler's eye as they both laughed and had to restrain himself from pressing his lips to Tyler's grin. The car continued to speed down the high way as the street lamps cast spikes of amber into Tyler's eyes each time they passed beneath them. After weeks of seeing each other through screens or only hearing the other's voice being able to simply brush against each others arms, having thighs pressed together and warm breath on cheeks, all of it felt like a series of miracles.
'I'm so glad you're here.' Calum murmured into Tyler's ear.
'I just had to see you.' Tyler explained, glancing up at Calum. An unspoken communication seemed to pass between the two of them as the car came to a half and the others slid on sunglasses and jackets.
'You two still with us?' Ashton asked.
'Still here.' Calum confirmed with a roll of his eyes. 'C'mon.' he said to Tyler with a jerk of his head as he leaned towards the door.
'Um, I'm gonna go back to the hotel and then come back here in a different car. Just you know, to avoid too much press.' Tyler said, watching Calum's eyes dim slightly as he was brought back to their reality.
'Oh yeah of course.' Calum muttered with furrowed brows.
'Hey, I'm still gonna come back.' Tyler reminded him, desperate to reach out a hand and reassure Calum that this wasn't how he wanted it to be.
'I know.' Calum replied, his forehead smoothing again as he saw the anguish in Tyler's eyes and understood. 'Just come back soon okay?'
'As fast as I can.' Tyler smiled softly, watching Calum climb out of the car after the others with his head held high.
Calum couldn't help but glance back once at the car driving away as he walked quickly through the throng of people lining up to get into the club. But the windows were tinted black, so he caught no sight of Tyler looking back at him as well.
Tylum "you make it sound so sweet when you lie to me"
send me your favourite song and i’ll write you a blurb based on the lyrics!!
“I told you already, it’s not true.” Calum groaned, his fingers knotted in his hair.
“But it is, isn’t it Calum? It always ends up being true.” Tyler said, and the words stung his lips as he said them.
“Why does any of this matter if you’re the one I always come back to?” Calum asked desperately, taking a step closer to Tyler.
“Because, fuck Calum, it hurts so much when you’re away!” Tyler said, trying to keep the sobs rising in his throat at bay. “I shouldn’t have to always be second guessing what stories are true and what you’re doing to hide our relationship.”
“I’m only hiding it because I want to protect you.” Calum murmured, reaching out his fingers to trail down Tyler’s jaw.
“Maybe I don’t want your protection if it traps me like this.” Tyler replied, reaching up his own hand to rest it on top of Calum’s, unsure if he wanted to keep it there or push it off.
“Tyler you know it’s not like that, I love you more than anything in the world I love you, God, I love you a lot more than I’ll ever love myself.” Calum moaned, the words hitching in his throat.
“I don’t know if that’s enough anymore Calum.” Tyler finally felt a tear break free and fall down his cheek. Calum barely seemed to notice as he stared into Tyler’s eyes.
“What more do you need? What else do you need to know other than I love you with everything in me, and I need you like no one else on earth.” Calum’s lips brushed Tyler’s before he could reply, but he knew he didn’t have any words anyway.
Tyler pressed his lips harder to Calum’s as if he could swallow the words and protect them in his stomach. As if by swallowing them and making them a part of him he could finally believe them.
“I love you.” Tyler said as they finally pulled apart.
“I love you.” Calum replied, and Tyler couldn’t tell if that sounded like a blessing or a curse.
“I think that’s why I fell in love with you in the first place.” Tyler smiled bitterly. “You make it sound so sweet when you lie to me.”

‘Alright so we’re going to be filming the lacrosse game tonight, so Shelley we need you over there by those vans and someone from stunts too. Dylan and Tyler you two are over there on the bench. Hello Tyler? Can we get a move on please?’
Tyler suddenly realised the Director was calling his name.
‘Oh right sorry yeah got it.’ He said quickly, jogging over to join Dylan on the bench.
‘Dude why are you spaced out?’ Dylan asked.
‘No reason.’ Tyler said, casting a look back over to the crowd of extras.
‘You know you literally just gave me a super noncommittal answer and avoided my eye contact? For a professional actor you can be pretty shit at acting sometimes.’ Dylan snorted.
‘Just one of the extras is pretty cute that’s all.’ Tyler shrugged as he turned back to Dylan.
‘Oh so you’ve got a crush?’ Dylan laughed.
‘Fuck off it’s not a crush.’ Tyler laughed as well, nudging the other boy with his shoulder. ‘Just saying he looks good in that lacrosse uniform.’
‘Hey he’s Davenport man, you can’t go for him.’ Dylan teased as he saw who Tyler was looking at. Tyler only rolled his eyes in response, waiting for the scene to start.

pt. I
Apartment (Tylum AU)
Wowie okay hi. So I was gonna write a music shop tylum AU (which I will) but this one wrote itself while I was listening to a song so…
‘The first time I saw you was in your apartment, I had followed my friends single file through the darkness. I looked your direction for a single inspection, and could not muster the courage to say a single word to you …’ -Apartment, Modern Baseball
Friday nights usually meant nights out, hangovers in the morning, and great stories to tell. Well, alright, so maybe that was before Calum moved across the whole damn world because his best friend had convinced him that it was a good idea. Somehow, for the past month all he managed to do on a Friday night was stay in, and wish to be back home where he could go to all his favourite places to be on a weekend. However, this night was different.
“Calum, you’re always complaining about being bored so get your ass up, we’re going out,” was all that was said before Michael was dragging his best friend, and roommate, out of the shitty apartment that they could barely even afford. “We’re going to a friend’s house, and we’re going to hang out, and it’ll be-”
“Fun?” Calum huffed softly as he shoved a beanie over his unruly mess of curls that were still just a little damp to where you could tell that he had taken a shower recently.
Fifteen minutes and an argument over who gets to control the radio, the pair had arrived at an apartment just slightly better than the one that they were sharing. “Alright, so you’re gonna like this guy. His name’s Ty-” Michael’s words were cut off for the second time that night when the door was opened before either of them even got the chance to knock.
“Michael! Hey man, I was worried you wouldn’t make it.”
Calum had ended up blocking out the whole greeting the moment he saw the bright smile coming from the person that he had unfortunately never got the pleasure of seeing before the door had opened. It wasn’t like he was drooling or anything, because he wasn’t…alright? He was just… taken aback a bit. Unfortunately for him though, he was so caught up in blocking everything out, and examining the guy in front of him, he hadn’t realized that anything was going on around him until Michael was pushing him inside of the apartment, and past the handsome door-opener. There were a few people around, most laughing with a beer or a slice of pizza in their hands, so its not like it would have been awkward for Calum except for one little detail. He had no clue who anyone was.
An hour later, after he had managed to find his damn social skills, Calum found himself on the couch engaged in a conversation with a girl who was friendly, but also too flirty to realize that he wasn’t staring at her, but at the guy from the door who was across the room from him, playing the guitar with Michael. “Hey, are you thirsty? I could get you a drink?” He asked as he brought his attention to the girl who only laughed as she held up her own drink, silently answering his question. “Well, I’m gonna go get myself a drink, it was really nice talking to you.”
He walked towards the kitchen only to almost stumble over a dog that he hadn’t even noticed. How the hell could he not have noticed a dog just laying about, havin’ a grand ol’ time? Magic, obviously. With his plan for a drink completely forgotten, Calum sat on the ground, greeting the pup with the brightest smile he could muster. There was really no secret in the fact that he had always preferred dogs over humans. “Hey buddy, you having a good time just chillin’ down there?” He mumbled as he moved down so that he was laying next to the dog who happily accepted all the attention that he was given, his tail happily wagging back and forth. “Yeah, I’m not really feeling like socializing either. I mean, except with the one hot guy Mike won’t stop fuckin’ talking to.”
“You enjoying yourself down there?” There was a soft chuckle followed after the words as Calum glanced up to see the same guy who he had been practically staring at all night smiling down at him with a raised eyebrow. Well, shit.
“Actually, I am. He’s a great listener,” Calum chuckled as he pushed himself up into a sitting position and smiled almost sheepishly. He watched as the other moved down to sit next to him, petting the dog easily with the same bright smile from earlier when he answered the door.
“She.”
“Excuse me?”
“The dog, she’s a pretty good listener. She tends to keep secrets to herself, not really talkative. Secrets like wanting to talk to hot guys though your best friend won’t stop fucking talking to him.” As he spoke, Calum could feel his entire face heat up at the words.
So he did hear what was being said. Fucking awesome.
“Oh, uh, yeah. Good because I bet whoever had said that wouldn’t want anyone to know,” Calum chuckled pathetically as he tried to turn the direction of the conversation away from the subject. He had already embarrassed himself enough when he spaced out at the door. “Calum. I’m Calum.”
“Yeah, we were introduced at the do- I’m Tyler.”
“Oh. Well, I knew that. It’s uh nice to meet you Tyler. I should uh, yeah I’m gonna go.”
Before Tyler even had a chance to say anything, Calum was up and headed towards the kitchen, mentally cursing himself. Had he not have royally embarrassed himself, he could have stayed there and wooed the pants of him. However, he was completely off his game lately. He had decided to just stay in the kitchen for a while until people started to leave. He had thought of maybe following suite, and just walking home, but he forgot his jacket, and it was raining. So, he just had to wait for Michael.
When he walked out, Tyler was laying on his back with the dog’s head on his chest by the couch, and Michael was laying on the couch, a guitar in hand as he strummed random tunes with his eyes closed. “Mike, I think I’m gonna walk home?” He called out as he leaned against a nearby wall, patiently waiting as all three pairs of eyes turned towards him.
“You don’t want to hang out a bit? Ty and I were probably just going to chill for a little longer.”
“No, I’m sure. Need to clear my head out. It was nice meeting you, Tyler.” He turned to walk out the door, securing his beanie on his head, and buttoning his flannel as he started walking back home. Not even two minutes later, he heard the door opening back up behind him, signalling someone following him.
“Hey, Calum? I just wanted to say I think you’re hot too, and that I hope you decide to hang out again soon,” Tyler called out from his spot inside the apartment.
Calum could see his smile, and the way that the light made his hair shine a bit as he stepped out a bit giving him the courage to answer back.
“Maybe next time it could be just us. We could make dinner or something.”
I did it. It’s shit…. and I lost where I was going with it a bit, but yeah… I did it. Also, I may write a second… I may not. If you haven’t heard the song Apartment by Modern Baseball, go do it because it’s good and the inspiration for it. If you like it or hate it or whatever…the fic or the song… you should let me know if you like. Okay bye.
