This is the kind of tech I imagine a Native American civilization would have created, left to evolve by themselves, if Europeans had been decimated by another plague and never colonized the new world.
Progress may have been slower, but even in one of the most esteemed holy books of Western Civilization, it says, “the first shall be last and the last shall be first!” It’s hard to imagine Native Americans harvesting oil from the ground! No climate catastrophe, no threat of WW3 it feels is menacing us today and takes humanity another dark age to recover from, like imagined in Star Trek’s timeline. No Native American CEO’s giving lectures on the Anti-Christ around the world, while helping their government work towards a fascist police state.
Sure, Native Americans weren’t perfect, but they were connected with the natural world in a way that prevented development of tyrannical Sky God religions and demonization of Mother Nature. And who knows what their version of Starships would look like! Maybe vessels with dual sails, catching both wind and light, drifting up and beyond the Kármán Line.
I can imagine Native American consciousness aligning more closely to a higher intelligence, perhaps the creator of the intelligence on Earth that has always sustained us. What if our world was created by two advanced alien civilizations. The one that created the plants got here first and were more enlightened, their creations drawing from the power of the sun; an abundant power source, and their life reflects this abundance with their byproducts giving us the clean air we breathe. What if the less advanced alien civilization were more primitive and couldn’t match this tech, so their life forms fed off of other life forms, their predominant psychology creating greed, fear, war against each other, hoarding and scarcity consciousness, leading to the evolution that produced us, deluded into seeing ourselves as the crowning achievement of life on Earth, as we destroy the plant, each other and the natural world in forests we clear cut, water and air we pollute and the environment we are spoiling.
What if the first alien civilization knew that their creation would be spoiled by less advanced beings, but they also knew within their creation, is enough information that will unlock the keys for our salvation if we just study its workings and intelligence more closely.
“It is well understood that the only decent future for us who live in America now is through a rediscovery of our environment. We need to establish a right relationship with the land and its resources; other-wise, the destruction of the Indian will be followed by the destruction of nature; and in the destruction of nature will follow the destruction of ourselves.
The Indians, in a sense, knew this all along. For many generations they learned how to live in America, in a state of balance; or, as a Christian would say, in a state of grace. Perhaps now, after hundreds of years of ignoring their wisdom, we may learn from the Indians.” — T.C. McLuhan 1971 (Touch The Earth)
