You were already anticipating that Baxter might stick out in such a plain little diner, but seeing it for real was different. If someone took a prince from a children's book and slapped him into the modern world, that perfectly illustrated what you were seeing in front of you.
In a way, that was part of the appeal. He didn't visibly belong, but he nevertheless came along simply because you'd asked him if he wanted to. For a new kid in town who was still so out of place, the sight of him was almost relatable to you.
It was reassuring to think about, that maybe it didn't matter if you "fit in" or not if this was the alternative.

it's really awesome that adolescence utena is in theaters this weekend! i wish it was in more than just the united states and canada, but if you manage to watch it, i hope that you can also escape to the real world!
