It’s still so freaking weird that Tyrone Spong was supposed to fight Oleksandr Usyk.

It’s crazy to think Tyrone Spong hasn’t been a kickboxer in like 8 years when he broke his leg kicking Gokhan Saki. For those that don’t know he went on to boxing, almost challenging Oleksandr Usyk for one of the cruiserweight titles but he failed a drug test. Then he was charged for illegally keeping an unlicensed cougar in his Florida mansion that managed to escape. And no one has seen him since.
But almost a decade after giving up on his push into MMA with the WSOF (2013), Spong (2-0) will be back competing in the sport. He will be headlining for the U.S. debut of Eagle FC, the promotion of former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. His opponent in the main event will be Russian heavyweight Sergei Kharitonov (33-9). Spong continues to have one of the more bizarre post-kickboxing careers around. After his previous boxing match with Usyk was cancelled back in 2019 and after losing in his return to MMA against Sergei Kharitonov, Spong is back in the ring to face former heavyweight champ Andy Ruiz.
