My dear readers are you ready for a BLAST FROM THE PAST? Well hopefully @themaskedhero who requested this package is because this week we’re going all the way back to urza’s saga to build around Lifeline. An effect that may feel familiar if you played hearthstone back in Naxxramas Since no colors were requested were going to be going abzan for reasons that will soon be made clear.
So first and foremost we have Anafenza who I had in mind as the commander of the theoretical deck that this package would get slotted into because honestly lifeline is the best Anafenza tech I’ve ever seen. For those of you who don’t know Lifeline returns ANY creature that dies as long as ONE creature is on the board which means it works for your opponents or, it would if not for Anafenza’s second ability which will get rid of your opponents creatures before they can come back. See also Leyline of the Void.
Honestly, is there a more efficient sac outlet? Like actually though I can’t think of one.
Hell’s Caretaker & Evolutionary Leap
These cards allow us to turn one creature into two with slightly different utility. Caretaker allows us to reintroduce creatures that died before we resolved our lifeline or that were milled, while leap allows us to find the creatures we need from our library.
Endless one mana doom blade. See also Mindslash if you prefer thoughtseize.
An important thing to note about Lifeline is that it requires a creature to be on the battlefield at the time of death which means in the event of a wrath no creatures will return unless we can protect one which Deathless Angel allows. It can also be used as a bargaining tool as the creature that lives doesn’t actually have to be ours.
Acidic Slime is the prime example of a utility creature perfect for exploiting Lifeline. It’s etb is flexible enough to always be useful allowing us to swing it around wildly, plus chumping is way better with deathtouch and lifeline.
Honestly any card with a “whenever a creature you control dies” clause could go here I chose Ulvenwald Mysteries because of the card advantage it generates.
Well readers those are 8 cards to help you exploit Lifeline just in time for Dominaria too. I like the idea of building around this package so don’t be too surprised if you see a deck tech from me soon or if that’s something you want to see let me know! If you like what we do here and want us to do more of it at a greater frequency then consider supporting us on patreon. Farewell for now readers and keep that value train rollin’.
