While I post pics of Joy and her escapades, let me tell you a little story about three beautiful souls hanging out together. That would be me, Alexander and Amanda. One evening at Ubuntufest, we had so much fun, we stayed around the KhoiSan fire till 2am, not even thinking about the shuttle that would take us home... Seeing that our accommodation was at least 10 km away, that became a questioning thought as we walked towards the deserted entrance gate and on to the road. Now I know what you’re thinking, Uber, right. Yep. If only. Well if only even a taxi service in town! Never mind, we thought, no need to panic - the universe has our back! Surely we wouldn’t need to walk all that way in the dead of night 😊. Nah. Something will turn up. It was a security vehicle. With a driver looking at us funny. We ran up to him and asked if there were taxis. No. Then Amanda asked if he’d take us back to our hotel and he said YES! What??? I thought. No way! And he did. Turns out he was worried we were going to hijack his car, till he saw what we were dressed like. Then he was worried we would be robbed ourselves. It’s a really dodgy area of town, he told us. Oh the joy of ignorance 😊 Whatever the external risk we might have been exposed to, though, we were totally right. The universe has our backs. It begins... in Cape Town, commissioning armatures made to my particular specifications, for my new project ‘Sit with me’. I will be attending three festivals in South Africa, teaching workshops, engaging local weavers for cultural exchange and demonstrating the weaving of a new sculpture, piece by piece (body part by body part).
