I'm in such an odd mood today
I'm tired despite the fact I slept and I'm as horny as fuck despite the fact I can't do jack about it. I'm also feeling painfully anti social, but I'm also regretting the fact that I don't like going out and being with these people more than I do. Sweden is really pretty. (It's also filthy expensive, despite being careful, I'm afraid to look at my bank balance when I get home) Wish you were here. Miss you to bits in this giant double bed that's a serious upgrade on last night. This has been a pointless personal update. Scroll on.
Music director of the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra, Christian Baldini is seeking to make opera a big part of his tenure.
The native Argentine was keen on coming to Davis because he would have Mondavi's Jackson Hall at his disposal. That 2,400-seat hall was tailor-made to accommodate opera-size productions
"Bluebeard's Castle" was not an easy sell, however. The music department balked. Fully staged operas are expensive endeavors, and this production will cost more than $50,000.
Bartók's one-act opera is no cakewalk for a university symphony. Roughly an hour long, the work calls for massive orchestral forces. On Friday and Saturday at Mondavi's Jackson Hall, a total of 99 musicians will be in the orchestra pit.
And a lot will be riding on the production.
