Alumni Weekend 2018

This past weekend was alumni weekend here at UChicago, which meant that alumni from all years and all departments returned to campus to reconnect with friends. The weekend served as a reminder that students continue to call UChicago home even after they graduate.

#fbf: First published in 1956, Sex Variant Women in Literature was a compendium of literary lesbians at a time when you couldn't just look up "lesbian" in the card catalog.

Author Jeannette Howard Foster (1895-1981) transferred from the University of Chicago when her crush Edna Grace Taylor graduated. She would return for her Master's in 1922 and a Ph.D. in Library Science in 1935.

Her book, her teaching, and her work as Kinsey's first librarian blazed trails in lesbian librarianship, and in 1974 novelist Valerie Taylor dedicated the first ever Lesbian Writers' Conference to Foster.
