Day 1 of Haute Couture Week PFW 2015: Georges Hobeika
For my first day of Women’s Haute Couture Week, I worked for Lebanese fashion designer, Georges Hobeika. Some of his celebrity clients include Jennifer Lopez, Emily Blunt, Katy Perry, Eva Longoria and Selena Gomez, to name a few. He also designs clothing for the royal families in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait.Â
I was assigned for two looks, but actually ended up doing four. The dresses were amazing, but what I didn’t expect was how heavy the gowns were. It took two of us to get one model in a dress. All the the dresses were handmade, from the stitching to the beadwork, someone spent over 10 hours hours making it. My understanding of what haute couture is, changed at this show. I got the opportunity to watch seamstresses work on last minutes touches before the model went down the runway. I enjoyed every single moment and I gained a new respect for these gowns. Now I understand why designers charge $25,000 for a gowns. The attention to detail is exquisite.
