"Push the Button!"
Undyne pulled the sheet off with a flourish. "Voila!" She declared triumphantly.
The robot underneath was cute and round. It had a sleek pixal screen and rollerskates! Better than Napsta imagined! "Is it... is it really for me?!"
"It will be you, if that's what you want." Undyne patted the robot affectionately.
"If you don't want it, I might" Hapsta teased.
Napsta touched the robot gently, gazing into its face- their face if the "fit" was right. "....I like it. I really, really like it!"
"Awesome! Wanna give it a spin? " Undyne said.
"...is it really ok?" Napsta asked.
"Sure! Go for it!" Undyne grinned.
Napsta nodded. They didn't usually get excited about anything, but this was very exciting! So they took a breath to steady themselves and phased in to the robot!
Napsta felt the sensations associated with a body wash over them. They were used to that, by now. They've tried out plenty of bodies, but none of them have quite felt like this. The body whirred and hummed. They could feel the electricity move through it. Was this what a pulse was like? It felt nice. It felt alive.
Napsta lit up the eye lights on the screen. Vision was a little different in this body. Everything had a tint of green. The screen also provided them with all sorts of information about their surroundings, such as Undyne and Hapsta's stats and short descriptions of them. They hoped they could turn that off, it felt a little invasive. At their thought, the scans disappeared. That was good. It was a useful feature, but Napsta felt like it would interfere with daily life.
Napsta tried moving the fingers. They tapped around a bit. "This will make it easier to play the keyboard" they thought. The idea made them smile, and the screen reacted by showing a smiley face.
"You like it?" Undyne asked eagerly.
Napsta nodded. They really did. "I like it" they said. Their voice sounded like it came out of a tin can. Neat! They really sounded like a robot!
"Oh, cool, the voice box works. I wasn't sure what it would sound like but it sounds like you!" Undyne said.
"It does sound like me..." Napsta tried the voice again. It sounded so cool!
Now for a real test. They hopped off the table and on to the floor... but they forgot about the skates.
"Whoah woah WHOAH!" Napsta slipped and stumbled around flailing their arms, finally crashing to the floor. Their screen responded with dizzy eyes and a squiggly mouth.
"Oh, crap, Napsta! Are you alright!" Undyne said.
"Blooky! Blooky! Come in Blooky!" Hapsta said, uncharacteristically worried.
Napsta surprised them by laughing. They hardly ever laughed.
"Oh no, their circuts might be damaged, hurry, Napsta! Get out of there so I can fix it!"
"No, no, I'm fine. Ha ha. The screen says "no damage detected." The funny part is, I felt it! I mean, it didn't hurt, but I really felt it!" This was a good sign. When a ghost first possesses a body, they only feel things a little bit. But they say the closer you are to making the body yours, the more you can really feel. Napsta had never even gotten close to this level of sensation in any of their previous attempts.
There was one more thing to try: the transformation. In order to be sure this was the right body, Napsta had to see if the other form was good too. "I... I think I'm ready" Napsta got up off the floor. "Push the button"
The transformation button was on their back. Undyne was sooo ready for this. "Awe yeah! Let's DO this!" She pushed the button on the back and it made a pleasant "boop" sound. Steam poured from the robot and the whole lab was covered in a thick fog.
"Oooohhh myyy!" Napsta's silhouette said. The fog cleared and revealed a blue and silver android with cool white hair.
"Well, what do you think?" Undyne said as Napsta examined the alternate form. She handed them a mirror.
Napsta took the mirror and gazed at the new face. They moved it all around, emoting much more naturally. The face beamed. They really, really, REALLY liked this. Looking in the mirror they couldn't help but say, "It's...me!"
A flash of blinding light enveloped them. As the light faded, they knew there had been a change. There was an attachment they never felt before. A sort of anchor.
"Awesome." Undyne said.
"Wooo! Way to go Blooky! You found a body!" Hapsta cheered.
"Actually, I think I should have a more robot name now, don't you think? What about... Napstaton?" Actually Napstaton had been planning to make that thier name from the beginning of this project but didn't want to say anything incase it didn't work out.
"I Love it! Napstaton it is, dear cousin!" Hapsta said.
"Thanks" Napstaton beamed.... and then promptly shut down.
"Ehhh... what happened... are they... ok?" Hapsta asked.
"Awe crap... I forgot to tell them the alternate form drains the batteries pretty bad... definitely going to have to modify that at some point..."
"No offense, darling, but isn't that a pretty significant design flaw?" Hapsta said.
"Well, yeah! It wasn't like 100% ready! I was just super excited to show it, ok?! So sue me!" Undyne
"Hmmm, tempting" said Hapsta, cooly, "but I don't think I've ever seen Napstaton so happy. Your poor judgment is forgiven."
"Ok. Thanks. ... you sure you don't want a robot for yourself? It wouldn't be any trouble." Undyne said.
"Hmmm... no. I'll let it be Napstaton's thing. If I decide to let you build me a body, believe me, I will let you know"
"Ha ha! Ok! You're on!"
"Undye? ...thanks." Hapsta said. Which was a lot for him.
Undyne beamed with her super sharp teeth. "You're welcome!"
