sachio was awakened by a loud familiar voices and laughter. he's trying to open his eyes because he's sure enough that he just slept for no longer than 3 hours. the chaos downstairs is quite annoys him since he can't sleep in noisy circumstances.

he glances at the clock with his barely opened eyes. it is pasts 7. he hurriedly get up from his bed and head to the kitchen where the noises were heard.

he sees two people cooking as their back facing him. he knows one of them is yui but he doesn't sure about the other one. it's definitely not his mother. but it's clearly a familiar posture.

“babe?” he calls out doubtly.

you turn your head and smile to greet him. “good morning.”

his eyes almost fell to the ground when his guess turns out true. it's definitely you—his girlfriend.

“what are you doing here?” he asks with a wide smile yet still couldn't believe his eyes.

“she cooks for your breakfast.” yui replies.

“really?” he approaches you, still in his pajamas.

you nod twice. “go to the bathroom first, sachio. wash your face.” you say softly. but it invites yui to laugh when her brother immediately going to the bathroom.

“he must be so embarrassed now.” yui says still laughing. “i don't understand why he acts differently when he is with you. it's new to me to see this side of him.” she continue.

you can't hide your smile and look at yui. “what do you mean?”

“i always see him in his calm and mature demeanor, even when i was a kid. but the first time i saw him with you, he was so clumsy and often got distracted. it's so weird, you know, it's so new to me.” yui explains.

you smile as you stir the soup in the pot.

not too long after that, sachio comes back and can't hide his smile seeing the sight of you being so close with his sister. he withdraw his thoughts thinking that the noise was annoying a few minutes ago. this turns out warm his heart and he can't describe how happy he is now.

actually, he still couldn't process what is going on. you—his girlfriend, being in his house this early, in the kitchen to be precise, with his sister, and you both cooking together? you both are just dated for 3 months now and he introduced you to his family a week ago and now you're here without him knowing? how can he not be excited?

he clears his throat and try his best to look calm and not pull you to his embrace since his sister are there.

“can i help you with something?” he asks and standing beside you.

“no, thanks, we're good.” you answer. then he notices your hair is untied.

“or maybe not.” he moves to stand behind you to tie your hair into a messy bun with a hair tie that always on his wrist.

“ow, thank you.” you grinning. he smiles and pat your head twice.

“please aware that i'm still here and don't do anything in front of me or i'll call sawamura to come.” yui utters and not wanting to look at you and her brother.

“yui!” sachio respond quickly. he still not used to the fact that his sister is dating his best friend.

you and yui are laughing automatically seeing his reaction. his frown fades after seeing you two are so get along together. the fear that you can't be easily accepted into his family also dissipates in instant.

“okay, okay, relax.” you place the soup you made in a pretty bowl. “can you put this on the table, please?” you ask softly.

“as you asked, miss.” he nods and starts to arrange the plates and bowl that filled with his favorites breakfast menu along with the cutlery.

“c'mon, let's eat.” he says as he push back the chair next to him, inviting you to sit down. you take off your apron before sitting down.

yui sits across you two and showing her grumpy face. “he wasn't like this lately,” she looks at you. “he is not even want to breakfast with me!” she add.

you giggle because you clearly know why he is like that.

“itadakimasu.” sachio voiced before starts eating his soup.

“actually,” you begin. “he always take his breakfast… with me.” you confess.

yui glares at her brother then shrugs. “he's head over heels.” she sneers.

“eat your food, yui.”

you chuckle at the siblings. you realize you didn't make a wrong decision to date him. and just now everything feels right and you're finally sure of your feelings.

being best friend with ueda yui has been made you feel secure and insecure at the same time. things changed so much ever since you got closer to the dearest little sister of ueda sachio, the most powerful man of housen gouken.

he always picked his sister up after school for the sake of her safety. sometimes he sent shoji to walked her home but if it just he really busy. yui and you were attached to each other enough to the point where she always wanted to be with you—besides shoji, of course—so they ended up walked you home too even though it consumed more time to got home because you and yui would always got distracted by something in the street.

and today, a bit different. it was not sachio or shoji that waited for you two in front of the school gate. it was odajima yuken. you only knew his name and apperence from yui when she showed you the photo of her brother and his best friends, it was actually the first time you met him in person. he stood in his laid back posture with his back leant to the wall and both hands on his pocket. basic but enough to made him the center of attention for the girls today.

“odajima-san?” yui greeted. he turned and straightened his body. “where is sachio and sawamura?” yui continued.

he fixed his glasses on his nose. “ah, am i not expected to be here? to pick you up? to protect you?”

yui rolled her eyes. “but really, where is my boyfriend?”

“you better ask him yourself, girlfriend.” he started to walk but a tall silouette approching them from the opposite road.

“sawamura-chan!” yui shouted happily while waving at her boyfriend. he smiled and did a little run to arrive faster.

yuken rolled his eyes and did a fake vomit gesture. you chuckled softly seeing his dramatic reaction and that was the time when he finally fully-aware of your existence.

“let's go. but we need to get my friend home first.” yui turn her head to yuken to inform him. he nodded once.

yui and sawamura was walking happily in front of you and yuken, they chatted cheerfully and it was a relief cause you suddenly lost your voice and your head was a clear blank. you never knew walk side by side with yuken would caused you this nervous.

“ah! i need to grab some stuff from the store!” yui suddenly stopped and you almost crashed her body. “y/n, when it is closed?”

you looked at your right wrist. “ten minutes from now.” you said.

she pouted a little and gave a regretful expression to you. “i think we need to separate here. i dont want to get scolded again, you know.”

“reckless.” yuken murmured.

you giggled lightly. “nah, its fine. i can walk myself home, yui.”

“no, its getting dark and high school Z have known your face, y/n. you shouldnt be alone.” sawamura asserted then his eyes landed to his friend who stood beside you.

with no time to guess yuken's response, he embraced your arm and push you gently to continue to walk while yui took another road to got to the store quickly. “time to say goodbye, kids. bye-bye.” he said with a smiley voice as if you and yui were kindergarten students.

your body clenching a bit and your heart was beating like crazy for some reason. you could smell his mild perfume from this close.

“where’s your house?” yuken asked after silence for 2 minutes. he couldnt stand the silence between you two and he almost sure that you were scared of him.

“not that far from here. sorry to make you walk me home.”

yuken smiled a bit, you almost couldnt see it. “its fine. whats your name, by the way?”

“its y/n.”

he nodded. “i believe you must have known me, right?”

you scoffed a little. “sadly, yes.”

then silence again for a few seconds.

“ah, about earlier, yui was not meant to refuse you to pick her up. it was just as not shes expected and she was confused… maybe.” you tried to speak what was on your mind with all your courage. and this was the first time your voice been that shaky just to talk to someone. then you heard yuken bursted out laughing made you nervous and shock at the same time. “i knew it, y/n. i was just being dramatic to teased her. you are a good friend by the way.”

you smiled shyly and cursed yourself quietly. stupid. he is her brother best best friend, of course he know her well too.

“sachio got some business to do. so as always he sent sawamura but i really had nothing to do today, so i thought join him will be nice.” yuken started to explain just like he can read your mind and answer your question.

“well, thank you for your explanation,” you added a little sass on your voice.

“well, you are easy to read,” he shrugged, hands still on his pocket.

you squinting at him and he found it cute so he chuckled while looking at you involuntary.

“but is it right that high school Z have known you?”

you nodded. “yeah, i was with yui that day when they tried to attack her. i thought punching one of them is a good idea but it turned to be otherwise.”

“uh, you punched them?” yuken asked with excited yet disbelief tone.

“mhm.. i know i was wrong. they tried to attack me too.”

yuken hummed and nodded. “no wonder, then.” he replied. he was so chill. or so you thought.

he actually tried to think whether he should taught you how to keep you away from them or him gave a lesson to them to not landed a single dust on you.

“we are arrived.” you said when you both arrived in front of your house. you turned to facing him. “thank you for walk me home, odajima-san.”

“no problem, kid.” he gave you a thumbs up and smirk. oh, he really considered you as a child. “okay, see you around, i guess…?” he added while slowly walking backwards.

“okay, see you!”

you smiled from eye to eye and waving at him before you got into your house.

days have passed since the last time you met yuken. nothing have changed and nothing special too, you never heard of him again until yesterday sachio brought him up to the conversation when he and yui walked you home.

“when would you come home?” yui's voice caught your attention.

her brother shook his head. “i dont know. yuken have been acting like someone else.”

“yuken?” you asked subconsciously.

sachio turned his head to you. “do you know something, y/n?” he asked.

you shook your head. “no,” you answered softly. you didnt had enough courage to ask any further even though you were dying to know.

“but its not like you cant go home, right? mom worried about you.” yui argued. you couldnt help to fidgeting your sweated fingers.

sachio ran his palm to his sister's hair, comforting. “i need to make sure he didnt do anything stupid, yui.” he said while smiled beautifully.

you heard it clear. what kind of ‘anything’ was it?

“what do you mean anything stupid, sachio-san?” you asked doubtly.

“he fought with high school Z few days ago. he seems so resentful.”

“by himself?” you couldnt hide your expression.

“by himself.” sachio affirmed. “he was not like this.” he added. he sounded so confused.

and today, after sawamura and yui walked you home, you made your way to a mini market nearby. you thought you need something sweet to drink to distracted you from your own curiosity.

you were drowned in your mind when you tried to picked your drink. thoughts full of the person who walked you home a few days ago and then he suddenly had fought high school Z’s bastards? unbelievable.

you grabbed a strawberry flavored soda in the middle row.

“i prefer the lemon one,” you heard someone talking right behind you.

quickly, you turned your body 180 degree to faced him and you were right. you knew it was him. you knew his voice.

“odajima-san?” you gasped covering your mouth with your palm.

a huge smile appeared on his face. “hi,” he greeted with both hands on his pocket.

and that was the first time you received a greeting with a big-big smile like that. though you couldnt decide if it was a warm or a flirty smile.

“you surprised me!” you blurted.

he clapped once then spread his arms. “surprise!” he exclaimed.

“what are you doing here?” you asked still confused.

“i saw you entered this store alone. where is yui and sawamura?” he raised one eyebrow and somehow you felt intimidated.

you closed the refrigerator behind you. “i was with them but suddenly i want something to drink.” you smiled innocently, showing your straight teeth.

“okay, then,” his eyes landed on your chest where you hold your soda.

“just that?” he asked. you nodded twice.

“okay, let's go, i'll accompany you home.”

you let him pushed your back gently without a word and he followed behind you to the cashier.

you almost got there but then your eyes met someone's in the queue. your reflex made you turned very quick and crashed yuken's body.

he placed his palm on your back and rubbed it before he asked, “something's wrong?”

you looked up to him slowly. “its them—cashier,” you almost trembled, not only worried about yourself but about what yuken would do too.

“ah, them?” he pointed at the high school Z boys without hesitation. “mhm..” you hummed.

“Oi!” he shouted and caught people's attention. you turned making him stood behind you.

they walked towards you and smirked. “you have someone now, huh?” the tall one recognized you so well.

“was he not there that day?” yuken asked the other two guys. “no.” one of them answered.

“you better tell him and make sure he shuts his mouth up before i do.” yuken leaned forward and place his chin on your left shoulder. “my hands tried not to leave my pocket this time.” he continued.

you could feel his breath in your neck for a moment, sending chills on your spine.

without a single word, they left with their stuff unpaid and you breathe as much as you could possibly do. “its fine now, you dont need to be scared like that.”

“you make me scared!” you shrieked spontaneously.

“me?” he pointed himself in disbelief. “why?”

“i thought you were going to do something to them.”

“i did something.”

“i mean physically.”

he smirked. “eh, you worried now?”

you chuckled in annoyance. “you did something to them a few days ago, right? what did you do?” you asked with a stern voice.

he laughed lightly and couldnt help to ruffled your hair. “you are really cute when you try to intimidate me, you know that?”

you swore to god your heart was about to burst but your brain said no. with all your strength, you tried to keep your threatening face and stared at him. “i wasnt joking, odajima-san.”

he chuckled, still. “i gave them a little lesson.”

“what kind of lesson?”

“my favorite lesson.”

“what is it?”

“oh, you want to know more about me?”

you sighed. you couldnt deal with him.

“let's go home.” you walked ahead of him to the cashier.

he stared at your back and smiled before join you in the queue.

at least he knows that you are safe now.

why the actual heck was yui in kidra?!

no cause why WAS she there? why was she selling red rum? even rebellious teens won't go so far as to sell steroids!

i personally think the writers just wanted a really cool intro scene for sachio to show how well-rounded he is: strong, cares about his family, would do anything for said family. if that was the case, then it works well for sachio, but not much so for yui. i just wish they came up with some other intro scene for him, like some housen guy was involved with them and sachio went to their base and beat them and grabbed the housen guy, and then kicked him out of housen cause they don't do shit like that. but no, we had to get this scene which does not explain why she was involved with them, gives us a glimpse into a sibling conflict without delving deeper into it, and also at the expense of a female character. again. sigh.
